Buffalo Drags Huge Croc Out of the Water by Its Nose
A very ambitious Nile crocodile takes its chances with a fully grown buffalo as they battle it out. Who will the victor be?
Dr. Marc DeBerardinis, a doctor at Petaluma Orthodontics was lucky enough to capture the entire scene @SabiSabiReserve. The story and images shared with LatestSightings.com are truly remarkable. Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
South Africa's Lowveld region experiences high amounts of rainfall during the summer months, which is extremely beneficial for the fauna and flora as they all thrive with the abundance of water and food. For those on safari, the large quantities of rainfall mean animals do not need to move as much in search of water and food. When they do decide to move around, the thick and lush vegetation offers amazing cover.
"We ventured down to the dam in front of Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge to watch the hippos. The sun was starting to set, and the air was beginning to cool. The rumble of buffalo feet made the earth tremble as a massive herd approached the waterhole. They settled in to have their evening drink when chaos erupted from the depths of the dam."
Buffaloes are water-dependent animals, which means they will visit water sources at least twice daily. Unlike many smaller animal species, buffalo approach watering holes and rivers with no concern or caution. Their large size makes them big enough for crocodiles to stay away.
"As the buffaloes began drinking, the eruption took place at the front of the herd. A crocodile was latched onto the snout of an adult female that was drinking. I sat there in disbelief and amazement. The buffalo let out a deep bellow that echoed through the surrounding bush. The rest of the herd watched in shock. The battle continued with the buffalo trying to free itself and the crocodile holding on with all its bodily fibres."
A sighting like this is unusual because crocodiles will not risk injury and energy loss for an animal the size of a buffalo. However, this large crocodile was perhaps desperate for a meal. Though many animals thrive during the high rainfall season, crocodiles are among the few animals that suffer. With the ease of access to drinking water, smaller animals are not forced to venture to large watering holes to quench their thirst. This means crocodiles need to adapt, and move from large river systems and dams to smaller ones in the hope catching a meal by surprise.
“In the end, the buffalo broke loose, and the crocodile retreated back to the safety of the water. Buffalo - 1, crocodile - 0.”

The sheer power. And some people think it's not a big deal when a lion brings one of these tanks down.
People don't realize just how enormous African buffaloes are. They weigh up to 900 kilos, which is over four times heavier than an average male lion (190 kilos).
That had me physically leaning right, to ‘help’ the buffalo, lol
Bruh i love how the other buffalos are just in amazed like whats going on here i thought they protect eachother to some degree they just bounced smh
They are herd animals and they did not leave their herd mate to be completely alone in the fight to survive. Unfortunately they seem to lack other fighting skills e.g. swiftly kicking the crocodile, maybe due to poor eye sight. Their kicks are formidable in strength, and if placed well at a right spot, while the mouth of the crocodile is otherwise engaged, may result in quite some damage.😌
One seemed to be talking crap to hype up the other water buffalo. But yeah, the rest of them were out of there lol. It's sad to see but panic causes creatures to make terrible choices. The heard could have easily trampled the croc
Croc to buffalo:"You've got something stuck in your nose. Let me get it out for you." Buffalo to croc:"I'd rather keep it in,thank you."
Man, that's gotta hurt.
I cannot imagine the pain 💀
What's even the point of living in a herd if the herd never helps you when you're in danger? 😂
Being in a herd advantages: 1. More eyes have a higher chance of spotting a predator and sounding the alarm to run away. 2. A single individual is less likely to be caught by a predator if said predator manages to catch a different herd member instead. (Basically like a "meat-shield.")
Rhetorical question
Looks painful for the Buffalo but he stayed strong. Sucks his herd did nothing to help him
what would they do? this is no disney movie, its the fittest who lives, but saying that there are so cool videos of herds helping their kind I am pretty sure its just depends.

This is literally what people do when there's a fight, car crash or somebodies life in danger, they stand there and watch and record with there smartphones.
