Roborock S7 Max Ultra Compared to Q Revo & S7 MaxV. What is Different?

The Roborock S7 Max is loosely based on the very popular, but older S7 MaxV Ultra model. This new edition to the S7 series is a little weird since it shares as much in common with the Q Revo as it does with the S7 MaxV and sits right between them with an MRSP of $1399.

  • Do you have any more details on the improved self cleaning system in S7 Max Ultra vs MaxV Ultra?

    @tackoo@tackoo10 ай бұрын
    • Great question that unfortunately did not make it into this video. It is 1 extra sweaping blade mounted under the moving scrubbing brush roller that sweeps the left side of the dock. It is in a photo in the video. If you look inside your dock all the way to the left you will see a dirty area with a sharp cut off line. That area of dirt is now cut in half thanks to this second sweeper, but not eliminated entirely. Not a huge deal imo. I could be missing some other design reasons though.

    • Thanks for your videos! Despite the Q revo being very impressive for the price, to be honest you convinced me to get the s7 maxv ultra instead - despite each video essentially showing its disadvantages more than advantages haha. The reason was simply the video features and the best object avoidance, and I'm glad I chose it! Better dock cleaning on the Q revo is one thing, but to be honest, the biggest downside and headache and intervention required for robot vacuums is still making sure they don't get stuck. The maxv avoids so many obstacles the Q revo and even s7 Max ultra and s8 would plow right through (from your videos), it's a gamechanger for me. The only thing I have to watch out for is charging cables being tucked away, otherwise socks clothes shoes etc no problem. It's an amazing vacuum and over here not much more expensive than the Q revo will likely be when it comes out! Thanks for your videos, I'm a very happy first time robot vacuum owner :)

    • @@Tom--Ace Glad you like it! I try not to flat out recommend one vac over another since each person has different needs. Instead I try and focus on what are the performance results, features, and pros and cons and try to leave it up to people like you to figure out their own needs. Glad I could help. The S7 Maxv is one of my all time favorite vacuums.

    • @@jamie.andrews Thankyou I really like that about your videos, I had enough information to really compare the pros and cons. And for me it ended up being q revo as budget and overall best pick, s7 maxv the premium option with features I liked and wanted. A big factor for me was the mopping comparisons, and the fact the s7 maxv was still comparable to the rotating pads on the Q revo was a decider, because I didn't want to go with an older mopping system if it was going to be inferior. One thing I would like to see is mopping performance in grout lines of deep grooved kitchen tiles (our kitchen tiles have deep groves in the grout lines, that the s7 maxv has trouble reaching - I wonder how the Q revo would fair here). I like your tabasco/hot sauce test, I tried a few different things on my floor including dried coffee, Coke, sweet chilli sauce and Tabasco and tabasco hot sauce is definitely tougher to get out, so it's a good test! I suspect the Q revo's mop pads might get at grout lines better but do far I haven't seen that in any reviews.

      @Tom--Ace@Tom--Ace9 ай бұрын
    • @@Tom--Ace I have not yet seen a robot be able to clean grout lines. For this I use a wet dry mop like the Dreame H12 Pro to get in the grout. Trust me hot sause always ends up in my grout and it won't get romoved by a robot so I don't think you are missing anything by not getting the Q Revo. That is cool that you ran some tests yourself and I am glad you found the hot sauce to be hard one to get clean. I use a heat gun to bake it on the tile floor.

  • Excellent review. I have the Q Revo and S7 MVU. The smaller tanks on the S7 are easier to manage when refilling and dumping the dirty water. And the handles on the S7's tanks also give me more confidence I won't spill water everywhere since the handles are mounted to the tank base. The Q Revo's tanks are a bit awkward. I usually need to support the Q Revo's tanks from the bottom. Ultimately it's not a huge deal. I prefer everything else about the Q Revo dock for the reasons you stated in your review!

  • I tried the S7V max ultra and it was ok. I am not a fan of the mopping pad and prefer the spinning pads, but they both seem to do a good job. I am currently using the Q Revo because of the mopping pads, the easy to clean mop sink AND the lower price!!! I wish the algorithm for mopping was a little better as the mop pads don't get real close to the baseboards like the vibrapad, but once again, the price difference..... The dock footprint is a little smaller as well and that is somewhat important for me. Thanks for the review!

  • I love hands-on product reviews like this. Your time and effort is appreciated. I got something I'd like to know. So in my home there's a few thresholds where the transition from wood to tile is about 1/2" difference in height. I want to know, how do robot vaccums tend to handle that? Are they able to climb that height as they go from one room to another? The thresholds look ugly but they don't really bother me but if the vaccuum struggles to climb them well then I guess I'd finally have to commit to fixing those eyesores and install those ramp looking strips.

    @dogemasta4907@dogemasta490710 ай бұрын
    • First off thanks so much! It depends on the robot. Most robot can climb up to about 3/4 of an inch. It also depends on how persistent the robot is with the navigation. Roborock is likely your best bet imo.

When I saw the bits and pieces about the Q Revo, I was impressed with its functionality and especially its price. Your comparison filled in all the blanks for me. I might have gone with the Q Revo if it were an option at the time, but, what the hey! It's like having an Apple iphone. @rxappdev@rxappdev10 ай бұрын
    • Your absolutely correct. There is no way to even try to keep up with the latest and greatest technology. I also own the S7 Maxv, and for a minute I was a little envious to learn about the new models.. But after using my Roborock for almost a yr now, I can honestly say that a vacuum brings me joy. 😂 I tell myself that I will not buy the latest top of the line model until mine no longer functions. Hopefully it will last several yrs to come, and by then the technology will be so good that we will no longer have to refill and empty the water tanks, and they will be totally self cleaning. I am pretty sure if I would have purchased a robot vacuum back when they first hit the market, I probably wouldn't be using it once the new wore off. I know so many people who ran out and purchased them when they first came out. Everyone was so impressed with them when they first bought one, but after using for a few months they got bored with using them. After awhile people got sick of having to empty the dustbins, and back then they didn't have robot vacuums that mopped. Most people who purchased one yrs ago have no idea that there are now robot vacuums that sweep and mop and can actually do both things at the same time. They don't pay attention to how far the technology has come because they figure they already own a robot vacuum that is most likely never used anymore and probably buried in a closet somewhere. My sister bought a Roomba probably 5 yrs ago. When I told her that I bought a robot vacuum she thought I was crazy for being so happy about mine. That's because in her mind, she figured in a few months time I would feel the same way about it as she does her roomba. She assumed the robot vacuums are still more of novelty thing, like hers is. She told me she has no idea where her roomba is at. She used it a few months and ended feeling like it's just as easy to vacuum and mop her floors the old fashioned way as it was to mess with running the roomba. She really didn't have much interest when I tried to explain to her the difference in my Roborock VS her Roomba from 5 or 6 yrs ago.. My point being, people who own older models, really don't consider that the technology on the robot vacs does advance and improve very similar to owning a newer smart phone. I also have a Aunt who owns one that she also bought when they first came out. When I told her i was thinking about buying a robot vacuum she told me that I could buy hers from her. She is another person who liked it at first because it was something new, but ended up never using after awhile. I tried to explain the features that my S7 maxv ultra have and how much I love it to both my sister and my Aunt.. I could tell that neither was paying much attention to me. It's not a topic of interest to people who already have robot vacuums from back when they first came out. They assume they can't be much different then one they already own and in time, the newness will wear off for anyone who buys one. Lol Anyway, my point is.. I am VERY HAPPY that I waited a few yrs to purchase my Roborock and that I did my homework on the brands and technology of them. Before I did any homework on which one to buy, I was about to go out and buy a Roomba and figured all robot vacuums are created equal. I planned on buying a Roomba with mopping, but didn't plan on the mopping feature being anything to functional. I just assumed Roomba is the brand to buy, because I always hear people mention the brand Roomba when referring to a robot vacuum. I HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD OF ROBOROCK brand before I decided to do some homework before going out and grabbing whatever Roomba model was on sale. Lol.. Boy am I glad I did decide to do some research before impulse buying. I actually had a Roomba in my shopping cart at the checkout lane once. Thankfully the checkout lanes were forever long and very slow that day. I ended up getting frustrated standing in line so long, that I didn't buy anything that I had in my shopping cart that day. That night actually googled the Roomba model that I almost purchased to read user reviews.. I believe that is what lead to learn about Roborock and several other top of the line brands..if I would have bought that Roomba that I had in my cart and knew nothing about.. I am positive I would be no different then my sister or aunt or anyone else who own robot vacuums but no longer use them. It's no different then the many different vacuums I have spent money on through the years. Everything from name brand full size upright vacs, to canister vacs, to stick vacuums, corded and non corded.. After awhile I wasn't happy with any of them.. I was always on the quest to find a vacuum that I would be happy with.. After a year of using my S7 Maxv Ultra, I can finally say that I have truly found a vacuum that I do not have buyers remorse.. It satisfies my needs more then I anticipated... Yeah now that the new has worn off there are a few things that are a tad bit tedious or kind of obnoxious dealing with.. But they are very very minimal things. When I don't feel maintaining the water tanks, or cleaning the sensors, roller brushes, water filter, I remind myself of the peace of mind I have waking up every morning to my entire house being vacuumed and mopped. I remind myself that there is significantly less dog hair in my home, even though my 4 legged best friend still sheds just as much as he always has.. For me the the monthly maintenance and filling the water tank is so much easier then constantly trying to keep up with my shedding dog and having to deal with a full sized vacuum on a regular schedule. My Roborock gets in places my expensive upright vacuum cannot get to. My expensive upright cannot even vacuum under my kitchen cabinets because the base of it is to high and won't get under the cabinets. I would have to use the broom AFTER vacuuming before I had my Roborock.. Talk about a pain in the butt. Lol I think it's way smarter for people to wait a few yrs when buying any kind of new technology... Hopefully I will get my money's worth from my S7 Max V. By the time I need to replace in a few yrs the technology will be even better then it is now. By waiting a few yrs the technology will be even better then the new Q model and whatever other new models are out now. Hence is why I am also glad I waited until last yr to purchase my first ever robot vacuum... Now days even the mopping features are very good. If I would have purchased one when they first came out, I am pretty sure the newness would have worn off quickly because the technology was not as advanced as now.. It's always better to wait awhile when it comes to upgrading any kind of thing technology related.. I am the same way when it comes to my smart phone. The newest models always sound appealing.. But they will be even more appealing if we wait a few yrs!

  • Great content and very good presentations. I do have a request. Most reviewers forget to review important aspects of the machines, which is the size. The size as far as diameter and height governs where the machines can go. Dining sets allow only a few machines to go under-the-table in between the chairs legs. I wish for someone to do that comparison. Furthermore, I have tilled kitchen with about half an inch grout, which makes mopping a challenge for flat mops. I would like to see a comparison with spinners.

  • Jamie, thank you so much for the detailed review. We have a large two storey house with patchy wifi in some areas. Whilst the Q Revo is not yet available in Australia it definitely piques our interest with the lower price point and seemingly similar features to the flagships. We only have floor boards and tiles, and one crawling baby atm. Our concern is whether or not any robovac regardless of price point would struggle with the black out areas in terms of coverage? We’ve tried putting wifi dongles around but even then we find it can be patchy..

    • I have been where you are with spotty wifi and setting up a mesh network is what fixed it for me. I use Deco. The robot would still work with spotty coverage on its own, but if it has a weak signal while vacuuming you would not be able to see it in the app.

    @tackoo@tackoo10 ай бұрын
    • It really depends on how dirty the floor is, how many pets etc. Those things can clog either filter fast. I would guess you would need to clean the Q Revo tray more often since the filter has less surface area and could clog more easily. It is a good thing it is super easy to do. I have not even needed to scrub it yet, only rinsed it off with the kitchen sink hose sprayer. I suspect most people don't think to clean the filter on the Ultra dock since it is out of sight and described as self cleaning. Roborock recommends on average you should clean it every 2 weeks. They also started putting a sticker on the dock reminding you of this.

  • Absolute perfect video. You covered all the bases. I own the ultra max v system and like to see how it compares to the newer models. I have one question. I have noticed on my Roborock app that there are some new features that must have been pushed through on a firmware update. There is now option to select "standard route" or "fast route" when cleaning. I am not sure which to select. It looks like fast route cleans in a different direction then standard route, and I assume it's faster. But I kind of like the idea of the robot cleaning in a different direction at times. The app does state that fast route may miss some areas, but it also says it adjusts it's route for more efficient cleaning. I like the idea of more efficient cleaning. But I don't like the idea of missing certain areas... It seems to me the 2 options of fast route vs standard route kind of contradicts itself according to how the app describes each route. Would love to hear someone else's opinion between the two options. I have had my s7 maxv ultra for about a yr now and I would hate to be without it. Your videos make me have more peace of mind that it does a decent job. I have light colored vinyl plank flooring. It's not always easy to tell if the robot does a great job. Simply because the sunlight has to shine on my floors just right for me to notice how clean or dirty they are.. I have had a few concerns lately that the dust bin isn't always completely emptied.. Sometimes I have to remove the dustbin and pull leftover debris from the hole that sucks the dirt into the base. That definitely concerns me a little bit. Like you said in your video, the robots definitely are not self cleaning. There is plenty of regular cleaning maintenance to maintain the system. Thanks again for a great video. New sub here.

    @twohassles43@twohassles438 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for the sub and support! The fast route option only cleans the center of the room skipping the area around the walls. If you recall the robot goes into a room and first cleans the perimeter and then cleans the center of the room last. Fast Route skips the perimeter which saves time. It is a useful option when you need the house cleaned quickly. If you are having to clean out the dustbin manually something is not right. Make sure the dust bag is not too full and the lid is fully sealed and not pinching the bag. If that does not fix it try cleaning just a few rooms at a time to allow the dustbin not to get too full.

  • Been waiting for this review before pulling the trigger, thank you Jamie! Based on the review it would seem the q revo has a smaller internal tank and uses more water. Do you think it can adequately mop a second floor or will it run out of water quickly before needing to return to base? In otherwords, how many square feet do you think the q revo can mop before needing a refill? Perhaps because I have multiple floors the s7max may be the better option.

    • Please know these were my simple tests done in my home and they could change with a firmware update as that can be controlled in that way. Here is what I do know for certain. Roborock claims the Q Revo can handle up to a Max of 400sqm and the S7 Max can only handle 300sqm. I do know the Q Revo mop pads tend to hold more water as well so maybe this is why? I can also tell you I ran a test with the Q Revo where I put the water output to high and ran it for 25 minutes and it sounded like it had very little water on it with me shaking and listening It does return to the dock after a max setting of 25 minutes for a mop washing. Unfortunately this is a hard thing for me to test for with a small home and limited time. I wish I could answer you more precisely.

  • Great reviews! Very detailed, however one thing I can't seem to find a lot of information on is how often these bots need to return to the dock during a cleaning cycle and how they handle multi-story homes. For instance, we have a townhome with hardwood throughout and I'm trying to understand how often I'd need to carry it up and down stairs for it to refill the tank and clean the mops. I see the Q Revo has a much smaller on board water tank (80 ml) than the S7 Max Ultra (200 ml). Does that mean the S7 can mop more sqft than the Revo before refilling? How many sqft can these bots go over before needing to wash the pads?

    @user-wp1ep1ps1g@user-wp1ep1ps1g10 ай бұрын
    • 25 minutes of mopping for the Q Revo and the S7 Max is a safe bet. Maybe similar for the S7 Max since it only has one water outlet and users report the outsides of the pad starts to dry up. I too have seen this on my small home.

      @jamie.andrews@jamie.andrews10 ай бұрын
  • That was an awesome video, as someone who has spent a bit of time recently researching robo vacs, it was great to verify my findings with yours. The only other thing I would add is the simplicity of the Dock mop cleaning system in the Revo. As there are no moving parts on the base there is less that could go wrong after the warranty runs out. The only thing personally for me is that obstacle avoidance seems very sub-par on these units compared to the S8 and S7 maxv, they may improve this, but also they may not. I think the next big thing will be warm water mapping becoming the norm. One thing I have noticed that no one seems to cover is calcium build-up over time in these units, does it happen ?

    @johnward6516@johnward651610 ай бұрын
    • The Revo dock is way more simple in design. I have low calcium in my water so it is not a problem for me. Different manufactures may have suggestions on what to use. • I feel like there isn't a dog around who sheds more then my dog. The robovac S7 MaxV Ultra has actually caused me to relax better in my own home. It has given me way more peace of mind! I feel more relaxed in my own home, because I know my floors are getting swept and mopped daily. The best part is I have it scheduled to sweep and mop so that when I start my day, I wake up to clean floors. Don't get me wrong, my dog definitely doesn't shed any less. Even though I wake up to clean floors, the dog shakes his fur everywhere the min he gets out of bed. I swear he knows the shedding drives me nuts and he shakes his coat just so he can remind that he is a dog, and that dogs shed.. Lol.. No matter what though, I feel way more comfortable that the amount of dog hair that flys from my dog everytime he shakes his coat does not accumulate like it did before I owned my S7 MAXV ULTRA. There is no possible way for any dog owner to get past the fact that dogs shed. But my days of searching for a solution to keep the dog hair and dog drools to a min have ended. I do not have time or energy to spend everyday sweeping and mopping my entire house. At least now it gets swept and mopped daily, and I only deal with sweeping and mopping the old fashioned way on the weekend. If I don't feel like lugging around my vacuum and mop on the weekend, I just skip doing it. Without the nagging feeling in my mind that so much dog hair is accumulating around me... Even though dog hair was my biggest battle before buying the robot, it's also nice to know that dust is not accumulating on my luxery vinyl flooring and carpet. You will be surprised at how much dust accumulates on a daily basis, once u own a robot vacuum. Having the robot cleaning on a daily basis, I notice that the dust bin doesn't get nearly as full as it used to. Because now I am able to keep all hair and dust to a minimum... Even though the robot does require some preventive maintenance about every 6 weeks. I would much rather keep up with the preventive maintenance then constantly worry about vacuuming and mopping. I have bought plenty of vacuums in the past, and still never felt like I was ahead of the dog hair battle. I honestly feel like the Roborock gets to areas that my upright vacuum could never get to. It wouldn't surprise me if there is less dog hair using the Roborock then using my top of the line vacuum. Sorry this is so long. I sound like I am doing a commercial for Roborock. Lol.. Honestly it's one of the best of purchases I have ever made. I only wish I would have had it along time ago. It's one of those purchases that has made me realize, that it's something I won't ever want to be without... I kind of hate knowing newer models are on the market now. Lol. I would love to be able to buy the latest models everytime one comes out.. But a person can't try to keep up with new technology each time a new model comes out...just like we can't completely keep up with dog hair every time a new piece of hair falls from my dog.. Haha.. I will continue to remind myself that my S7 Maxv does a perfectly fine job keeping the dog hair to a minimum, and I won't splurge on a newer model until my Roborock absolutely needs to be replaced. Hopefully it will last A LONG TIME. Maybe by the time I need a new one the technology will be so perfect that it will be able to vacuum and mop my dog.. 😂 Hopefully you have made a decision on which Roborock to buy. If so I hope it brings u better peace of mind like mine has for me. I think u said u would buy it on Amazon prime day, which has already came and went. I bought mine from Roborock during Black Friday last Xmas. It was the lowest price that I have ever seen them be. If you haven't bought one yet, Black Friday sales will be your best savings.. Enough about Roborock.. I have now officially made my longest comment ever.. Roborock should send me a free vacuum after for this much praise. Have a great day.

  • I had the MAX V ultra for Over a year now and I loved it, but after a year I noticed the mop water was not going down, so something was not right. The self cleaning system was ok, and I looked at the removable mop water on the vacuum unit and couldn't find anything wrong there as it turns out there was an issue with the small tube that goes from reservoir through the vacuum to the single distribution point on the S7 Max V. I took apart the vacuum to try and clear it used a suction cup to push air through, at some point I think there is a leak somewhere in the vacuum water tube itself in the main unit of the S7 so it renders the Max V's mop useless. After spending $1200 I didn't want to get another Dock and Robot and my thought was to just purchase a new MAX V unit without the dock however they do not sell them separately on the website. $500 to $800 is the Price for just the vacuum or E bay even for a refurbished unit. So in researching I come across this and see that I can get this new set up Q Revo for around $800 and possibly cheaper during the Prime day Deals and Black Friday I think my mind is set to wait for the price drop and get the Q Revo. I will still use the S7 Max Ultra for the vacuum as it does a great job but I want to have a twice a week mopping done by a robot so the Q Revo should fit in nicely and I can use the S7 for the heavy dirt pick up and focus the Revo on the mopping and hopefully I will get what I need done without paying another $1200. I did end up getting a promotion where I got the $300 Cordless Vac with the S7 Max V ultra for an early adopter so I think I got my use out of it but was disappointed with the ability not to be able to access the tube to replace. I hope the water delivery last longer for the Revo but the Dock and capabilities match what I am needing and seem less maintenance intensive and I don't see the need to get a new S7 for just the mopping feature when I can pay the same price and get a new set up that may be a good back up should anything go wrong with my S7 which it has on the mop side. My upstairs is mostly carpet so I have a feeling I'll be using the S7 for my upstairs and the Q Revo for the downstairs more tile and low pile carpet sounds like the solution. If anyone is on the fence between the 2, Although there are some additional features on the S7 Max V, I think if i had the choice at the time I would of opted for the Q Renvo the Price really is the deciding factor considering you get 90% of the same features. Both are good but I think there were some design misses with the S7 when it comes to longevity. And just so you are aware I've only used the Roborock Mop Cleaner int he clean water tank and used reverse osmosis water in the clean water tank as well so this still had some issues with Mop 2 times a week and regular maintenance as needed for the unit.

  • I have the first gen Xiaomi branded roborock. It's very old but still works like a charm. It only has sonar sensors in front so obstacle avoidance is quite basic in today's terms. When s7 maxV came out i thought that this would be the reason to upgrade. But with the s8 pro being so expensive i am going for revo and I just wonder how much am I losing out by not going for the s8 pro model. Is the 3D reactive tech that much better to make a meaningful difference to justify the price difference?

    @forkeMuffin@forkeMuffin8 ай бұрын
    • Wow that is old tech for sure, but glad to hear it still works like a charm. As for your question the obstacle avoidance on the Q Revo is extremally basic and the difference is fairly large in my testing compared to the S7 MaxV and the S8 series so if this feature is very important to you take a look at the S7 MaxV which is the best or the S8 Pro Ultra which is almost as good.

  • So would you say the q revo at $700 is a better purchase over the s7 maxv ultra for $1060? I'm curious how much better the completely floating brush housing is vs the q revos semi floating brush. Also in your video the q revo brush housing looks so much smaller than the s7 maxv. I think the s7 max is kind of a weird product. It seems it's either save money and get the q revo or go all out and get the s7 maxv ultra / s8

  • I do believe that if you were to run the mopping test 3 times between the S7 Max Plus and the Q Revo, Q Revo would come out on top 1 or 2 of the times. There will always be slight difference on the hot sauce amount even when you try your best to make them as evenl as possible. Just my opinion.

    • Absolutely correct. They are close enough to not really make enough of a difference in their mopping or vacuum tests. This is not a lab by any means even though I try and keep things as consistent as I can on this channel. With that said the amount of work that goes into the mopping test means I usually only run 1 per robot unless i have a good reason to do more than one. Cheers!

    • If they are the same price it would come down to which mopping system you want. Spinning pads or a vibrating mopping plate. The S7 Max also has a bigger onboard water tank so it can mop longer before returning to the dock. This is really only a big deal if you have multiple floors. With that said I tend not to tell people what I would personally buy as my likes and needs are different than someone whose house and needs I am not familiar with. If you give me more info I can try and assist more.

  • One week into ownership, the Q Revo is truly amazing. Are there more expensive models that might be a little better? Probably, but the Q Revo can hold it's own at a fraction of the price. We bought direct from Roborock for 680-10% military discount, total cost $612. Much to our surprise it successfully avoided a folded blanket we forgot to pick up, so while it's obstacle avoidance might not match models costing twice the price, it's fine if you pick up cords and such. On the plus side, it does not touch, bump, or markup walls or furniture. We even have Christmas decorations out that it successfully avoids. None of our previous Roombas or Deebots could do that. Q Revo for the win for us.

    • The robots don't really share the same consumables except maybe the filter. While you could use the old style brushes on the S7 Max, I would buy the ones for the S7 Max because they are a bit better imo. The Ultra docks share the roller brush that scrubs the mopping pad and the share the same bag as well.

  • Amazon reviews say these don't sense when bin is full. It empties dustbin only after cleaning so some folks make a complex set of schedules with each room as its own schedule so the bin will empty after completing each schedule (i.e. after each room), otherwise the robot bin fills up too fast. Your thoughts?

    @roguepetunia@roguepetuniaАй бұрын
    • That is correct. iRobot owns a patent for having a dustbin detect when it is full so other manufacturers won't have it. I'll be glad when the patent expires.

  • I wasn't in the market until a few hours ago when my Roomba i7+ buried itself in a big pile of dog poop! I take particular pains to scan the cleaning area before releasing the robovac, but in this case the dog had an accident after my scan and while I was otherwise occupied elsewhere in the house. I don't think I want to dive into the cleaning process of that 3+ year old robovac, although it still functioned very well, especially with the docking base and self-empty feature. I also have a Roborock S4 upstairs and really like the LIDAR nav on it. But no dock and no self empty. With 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house, I really want small obstacle recognition and avoidance (especially after today!) and auto-empty when the on-board waste bin is full. So I was disappointed to see the poor small obstacle performance of the S7 Max V and the Q Revo. If not Roborock, who else offers a decent vacuum (I don't use the mopping feature) with small object detection and recognition and auto empty? Roomba J7+?

    @speedlever@speedlever10 ай бұрын
    • The is the S7 Max not the MaxV in this video. The S7 Maxv has a much better obstacle avoidance system especially for dog poop. Irobot with the J7 plus also has great obstacle avoidance as does the Dreame L10s Ultra and Ecovacs T10 and X1 OMNI.

      @jamie.andrews@jamie.andrews10 ай бұрын
    • @@jamie.andrews Thank you for clarifying. Another feature that Roomba offers is it detects when the onboard dust bin is full and the Roomba will return to the base, empty itself, and resume vacuuming. I think this is still proprietary to Roomba, is that right? But I really prefer the LIDAR navigation and like how the RoboRock app shows me where the robovac is located during the cleaning process. That may trump the return to base when the bin is full, but not by much. I can’t find the S7 maxV Plus at Amazon but Walmart has it for $870. Was hoping to find the Plus (not the Ultra) on a Prime day deal tomorrow but that doesn’t look promising.

      @speedlever@speedlever10 ай бұрын
    • @@speedlever iRobot has a patent on the dustbin full detection until 2027 I think. That is why no other robot has this essential feature. Lidar is more precise than VSLAM. The S7 MaxV+ is not on Prime Day sale, but the S7 MaxV Ultra is.

  • You mentioned q revo has semi free floating brush housing vs s7 full freely floating brush . What does it mean ? I had bought q revo and now after a month it looks like the housing is scratching the wooden floor .. I am thinking to return it to buy s7 max ultra do you think the free floating housing may be better to avoid scratches ?

    @lohiyadeep@lohiyadeep4 ай бұрын
    • Interesting as I normally hear the free floating brush on the S series is the one to scratch floors. On the Q Revo the brush and little felt pads are the only thing that comes in contact with the floors. With the S series there are little plastic numbs that come in contact with the floor and people say those scratch their floor. Personally I don't think either of the could scratch a floor with the roller cover and most certainly not the Q Revo as it does not come on contact with the floor and what is really happening is something gets stuck in the brush roller housing and that scraped across the floor or something gets stuck in the mop and that causes it. I have yet to have a robot scratch my floors. I'd say if you run the robot and see scratches as it runs return it for sure, but if we are talking about isolated incidents it is likely what I described.

    @rukiichi85@rukiichi858 ай бұрын
    • Keep on mind a benefit to the self cleaning it it also refills the on board water tank and keeps the mopping pads clean throughout the mopping process. If you place is small this might not be a big deal though, but if you have ever tried to mop over 600 square feet you will want to clean the pad. The dock cleaning on the Q Revo is no big deal at all so I would not let that discourage you plus it is not much price difference. Just some food for thought. Thanks for watching!

    • The S7 Maxv will get closer to the wall than the Q Revo. The main reason to choose the S7 Maxv is due to the more advanced obstacle avoidance system plus a larger on board removable water tank. It also uses a good bit less water than the Q Revo. The reason to choose the Q Revo is budget and you don't care about the things listed above.
