BMW Reliability vs Lexus || Which Should You Buy?
Are Lexus reliable? Is BMW reliable? When you pit BMW vs Lexus, is it reliability that drives the purchase of these cars? I think it is in a lot of cases, and today I'm going to show you why BMW still has some reliability issues, and why people can have issues with their BMWs.
I'll tell you all about the plastic in BMWs, oil consumption issues, and more. Ultimately answering the question of is #BMW worth it? Or should people stick with the tried and true #reliability of #Lexus?
You might be surprised!
Where we believe that Life's Too Short To Drive Boring Cars so we just don't and you shouldn't either.

  • Here’s my experience I have owned 4 BMWs 3 AUDIs 2 Mercedes 1 Maserati They have all given me trouble and some left me stranded When there working absolutely amazing to drive Besides the sports cars I have owned EVO I’m driving a 2016 LEXUS GS atm And a huge part of the “luxury car” should be reliability Not ones have I gotten into the GS and ever fear it not turning on or breaking down etc I always have a peace of mind I will get where I want. With any German car I have owned there’s always a unsettling feeling that will it turn on or will it get me to my destination or will I hear a new sound from under the bonnet etc etc To me that completely takes away from the main expectations you should want from luxury car ( reliability)

    • Cars don’t give problems. Drivers do. Buy a new car or used car from a lot make sure get warranty or extended warranty. It will save you half of the battle and the headache. Always expect car parts will fail at some point. Expect the worst, hope for the best. It will give you piece of mind. Secondly, you have to know what you are buying in the first place. Buying a sport performance vehicle will cost you higher maintenance than a non sport performance vehicle. It’s simple math. Here’s the punchline… If you can’t even afford the car maintenance , the warranty or even the car payment in the first place then stay away from the vehicle. 😉

Probably best performance in the segment of all brands but huge bucks to keep running with higher miles and the s63 has a very chronic issues as it is not too far separated from the n63 which we know oil consumption and timing chains are a thing.

  • Plastic itself isn't the enemy, it's when you mate plastic with metal. The two materials have different rates of expansion, which compromises the integrity of the gaskets (the weak point). The effect is like rubbing wet cardboard between your hands (yes I know they don't use cardboard gaskets). The more the gasket degrades, the more the oil seepage. Could they use better materials with closer expansion ratios with better gaskets? Probably. Would they? Probably not. Plastic is cheap compared to a proper metal alloy.

  • The reliability issue is called "Planned Obsolescence", period. Modern yuppies want newest newest new and that means vehicles get dumped every 2-3 years, at the end of the leases, about as long as they hold onto a phone. So, why would any manufacturer build a car to last when they know/count-on their customers to replace vehicles about as often as their customers replace any other toy? So, plastic thermostat housings, plastic pumps, plastic plastic plastic. Ta da, cut costs, maximize profits. A penny saved is a penny earned.

  • As a previous owner of 2 Audi’s and a Porsche I’m convinced the German luxe brands are by design supposed to break down to provide service revenue to dealers. Audi 1 oil leak, expensive brake jobs, Audi 2 electrical issues thousands of dollars sunk into diagnostic until they found the issue and expensive part shipped from Germany. Porsche out of warranty AC repair got rid of it, expensive and frequent brakes and maintenance. Great looking cars but I’m more into practicality now there will always be those who like the badge, image, prestige, (handling). Lease German cars or get rid of them before warranty ends never own a high mile outside of warranty one.

So you own your BMW to the end of the warranty and sell it on to some poor sucker (or if you're really smart, you just turn it in at the end of a lease contract). A Lexus may not have all the cutting edge bells and whistles, but it won't break down either - something your neighbour will notice as well when they're deciding on a new car to buy.

Lexus is a far more prestigious choice, BMWs current bizarre styling weirdness means Lexus' offerings are also far better looking and they've always been better made. • Toyota has perhaps the greatest market share in the automotive industry - far more than BMW. Toyota does not make as much on servicing of their vehicles related to the reliability, but perhaps BMW should take note and realize that you can make more money by generating greater costumer loyalty/trust. I think BMW could engineer an ICE Vehicle as reliable as a Toyota, they just don’t chose to do so in most cases.

  • It’s kind of hard for me. I love both, but Lexus is way more reliable compared to BMW, but BMW can be reliable depending on what model you get. The 3 Series is pretty reliable, because there’s not as much technology as say a 7 Series, which I know is very unreliable. Lexus however, uses outdated technology from like 5 years ago, which is why they’re so reliable. I’d buy a BMW personally. More fun to drive and they can be reliable if you go for a lower model or older year.

    • I actually agree totally. The BMW is far more engaging to drive and looks better too, as well pick the right engines in a 3,4, or5 series and it can be a joy to drive. Sticking with the inline6 engines except the n54 usually means a solid experience. Older naturally aspirated engines are pinnacle of solid for the brand. The Lexus I had was reliable but not very good. The Manual gearbox was like a first year engineering student project, the 2.0L straight six was smooth but unpowerful and very thirsty, and there were a few build quality issues you would never see on a BMW.

  • Even if lexus has better reliability, BMW is so much better as a whole package. Lexus and bimmers from the same era are miles apart in interior and exterior quality. Lexus interiors are pretty much 10 years in the past. Id rather drive in a car with decent reliability, than to drive something less exciting. Alot of brands, including bimmers, will drive fine and give you very little issues up to 150.000 miles, and thats how long most people keep their cars. So for most people, most german cars will just give a better owners experience. that might slowly change after 250.000 miles, where the lexus shows its real capabilities. But unfortunately, most people dont keep their cars that long. Therefore the most sensible option is BMW. You got to factor in the whole picture. Reliability is only one part of the picture when buying a car, not the whole. If that was the case, then everyone would drive Toyota Corollas. Which is not the case.
