My third mandolin restoration.

I love that just because it started out life as 'cheap' didn't mean it was junk to be tossed. It's much lovelier, in more natural stains.

The feeling at the end that every Mandolin player along with every 12-String guitar player goes through trying to tune pairs of strings, stretching them, breaking them them, restringing... OH the joy!

I was surprised by that hearty laugh when your sting broke. Such a pleasant and warm laugh too. Great job on a difficult restoration! You seem to be able to do all sorts of wood based renewal. Marriage proposal still stands! 🥰

- Wasn't sure if it could be fixed. Should've known as talented as you are you can fix anything and make it beautiful again! I chuckled when I heard you laugh over breaking the string. Fair dues ! I didn't think that you'd manage to save that mandolin? I thought it was far to gone to save any of it ! But you managed to save it after all? Well done, bravo, nice work ? And thanks for showing us the process!.

looked like all it needed was a new top, back, sides, neck, fretboard, bridge, nut, tuners, tailpiece and strings....amazing work!

- Thank you 😊 Yes, this is one of the reasons why it is cheap. The pieces were assembled as they were cut, without sanding.

That was really interesting, nice job! I always like the way you put your videos together, with just enough explanation and good camera work, editing, etc.; it makes for a pleasant viewing experience. Also, nice cat.

Good restoration. BUT, At this point: 10:40 I had glued wood imitation on the top to make it look more beautiful from like from a solid piece of wood. I also added shellac and it would look much better. See Ya! 😏✌

I am sure this instrument was not stellar quality from day one. Therefore because of the extent of the repairs on the top especially, I may have opted to use a 2 part professional epoxy on the inside (underside of the top and inside the bottom, to add additional strength to the wood. When I say professional quality I am not referring to the stuff you buy at Home Depot.I did this once on an antique guitar , and it did not effect the resonance to any noticeable degree. But like I said It probably did not have a really top notch quality sound even when new, and I am sure even though you did a great job restoring it's appearance, it will never be recording quality , if even playable today.

I refinish pianos and after I use paint removers I was off the parts with acetone. Is this a mistake?

- No, acetone is good clear. Also you can use white spirit.

It would take a lot less time and effort to build one of these from scratch than to fix this one. You would have an opertunity to use fare better materials than what was chosen!
