Andrew Scott making it big is long overdue.
Honey, you should see him in a crown
It always puzzled me why he didn't become megastar like Benedict, after Sherlock.
@@Figs3 It's not always about becoming a ''megastar'', he is still a busy actor. Also, in compariosn to Ben he had an arc in the show aka he wasn't a main character
Well, I would say he already made it big considering he's in-demand and constantly working in film, theater and on TV. It's not just about hollywood...
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849and people need to understand that
The cinematography looks INSANE!
Gorgeous
The series was shot by Robert Elswitt, who also shot There Will Be Blood!
I'm surprised it's in black and white since Italy is very colorful. Either way, very excited.
Very much so
I had heard about this movie, but hadn’t looked into it. No one had mentioned the director!!! .. let alone the screen play water & cinematographer! This will be visually stunning you are right .. but I’m not drawn in yet by the story. But I’m betting with the kind of writing we’ve come to expect from their past movies that we won’t be able to look away. So many shots in just the trailer that we’re making me go “oh my god! Oh my god” lol, over & over. Great to see others that appreciate these attributes. 👌☺️
I have no words. This has been one of the best series I've seen FOR A LONG TIME! The scenes, the camera, the light, the music, the plot, the ACTORS. Wow. What a masterpiece. Such a pleasure to watch.
Masteepiece indeed!
I couldn’t disagree more. I think it could have been shortened to 4 episodes, there is a lot of wasted time in each episode. The plot is weak too.
@@Mark70609 welcome to series? They are not going to make only 4 episodes, people would finish that in 2 hours.
Same! Such a masterpiece, just beautiful!!
It’s really good imo. Scott’s acting, Dakota as Marge, the detective is brilliant. I hadn’t seen the original except for the boat scene so it was truly riveting watching the series. The cinematography was beautiful and made it easy to watch despite some stress inducing moments 😂
I already know that Andrew Scott can bring the creepiness, so my one big hope is that his performance is also allowed to show how charming and convincingly *harmless* Tom is capable of appearing. That dichotomy is at the heart of what makes him such a unique monster.
great point
He seems miscast to me for this reason. He looks too sinister. Tom Ripley is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Matt Damon was spot on.
Also that this trailer suggests that the motivation for his infiltration was money. The movie did a great job blurring the lines between his financial motives and genuine infatuation with Dickie and his lifestyle.
@@drakedrakeson5067 That might just be because it's narrated from the POV of the girlfriend
@@LondonPride25 Check out Ripley's Game. John Malkovich was terrific as Ripley.
Give Andrew Scott all the parts
Check out Vanya
@@tanvinator lololol yes! also, do you mind me asking if you know Vanya is streaming anywhere? I've been looking for it for a while and can't seem to find it.
So something like Anomalisa? And, Kaufman as the writer? Me: Hmmm...... It's pretty good, pretty, pretty, pretty good!
@@tanvinator I'm desperate to this on the stage - ticket prices, though!!!
I think they are
Best thing I've watched in many years. It's a terrific production in every category on every level. Film Noir art. Even the cat was given an opportunity to show their character. So good!
This was the best show I have watched in ages. Perfection. So well shot and Andrew Scott was incredible and so captivating. He really can't do much wrong this guy. He needs major recognition for this. Love him
Yes, even after 30 seconds I knew I was in for good things. No nagging social politics or any modern nonsense, just pure escapism back into the 1950s, and in such a wonderfully tasteful way. Amazing.
Just binged it. Smart, gripping & spectacularly beautiful, it is, by miles, the best show on Netflix in AGES! The B&W cinematography is gorgeous.
Absolutely!! 💯💯💯
I was so distracted cause every scene looks incredible! You don’t even have time to digest it!
Good music, too.
Genuinely one of the best and most intriguing Netflix Original trailers I’ve ever seen. Incredible.
It's a TV series adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley, a book by Patricia Highsmith. There was a 1999 movie of the same name as well, with Matt Damon in the titular role.
@@manthekingYes, unfortunately.Jude Law, who played Dickie would've been a better fit as Ripley.
@magloyd4907 Possibly. He did look suave enough to be able to easily con people, that's for sure. As opposed to Matt Damon's (comparatively) more everyman look.
@@manthekingand don’t forget The American Friend (1977), Dennis Hopper as Tom Ripley, and that French movie, Purple Noon.
@@magloyd49071960 french one with Alain Delon is the best. I watched all versions and read all novels. I love the ripley's game with john Malkovich too.
The classiness in this series doesn't feel forced whatsoever - just as class should be: nonchalantly and genuinely chic. I love how authentic this series is - everything about its craft is meticulous and articulately genuine. Masterfully beautiful.
The shot of both staircases, winding up into the darkness? Insane! And Andrew Scott is the perfect actor for this. That nonchalant "Oh God," was amazing.
And this cat! Like a concierge who sees (and knows!) everything! Even the cat deserves an Oscar!
Having Andrew in this had me sold but then to see the cinematography? Every shot looks like a beautiful charcoal sketch! ❤
Andrew Scott deserves a raise!
OK kid
Andrew deserves the world tvh
He would have deserved an Oscar nom :(
@@khalidsyed142 I'm just a simple poor guy💀
@@mrmdaher He does deserves it, it's just unjustifiable that he didn't get one for All of Us Strangers.. even tho im a Paul Mescal Fan, I think Andrew did the best part than him..
Looks really good. So happy for Andrew Scott - he’s such a great actor and seems like a genuinely decent guy.
As a huge fan of Purple Noon I am EXTREMELY excited about this.
Alain Delon still OWNS ALL OF THEM... simply by his presence alone.
Plein Soleil is amazing, but Talented Mr. Ripley is one of the few instances where an American remake can actually stand its ground against the original imo
Matt.....DAMON!!!! Derp derp
Alain Delon radiated Ripley. Charming, sexy, dangerous.
Yes!@@Factboy12
Andrew Scott should’ve been nominated for an Oscar for All of us strangers. They snubbed him like crazy
Totally agree. He should have WON the Oscar. x
Paul Mescal was amazing too
He was good but the Freddy character was awful. The actor is so bad. Lacks charisma, such a different performance to the brilliant PS Hoffman. So so bad
Like Hitchcock 🤦. Wgaf about the Oscars
@@FC-gq7fbStings daughter 🤦
watching this trailer and i am remembering Matt Damon's portrayal of Ripley... even though I know the story...the cinematography, performance and B&w just makes me intrigued to watch this😊
I'm glad Dakota Fanning is acting again. She's so underrated. 🔥 1:26 should say Academy Award nominee. Can't believe Scott was snubbed for All of us strangers.
Dakota Fanning still been acting and went nowhere what you talking about😂 lol? She just recently filmed The Equalizer 3 with her good friend Denzel Washington and had many other prior through the years. I just can't wait for her upcoming film The Watchers which is directed by M Night Shyamalan's daughter.
I am so happy for Dakota Fanning to be in this role🎉
Again? She's been acting ALL THIS TIME, both on TV and in film. Just because she's not as ''hollywood'', doesn't mean she ''disappeared''.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 Agreed! She not the type of actress that always have to be in the spotlight!
She’s never stopped acting since she was a kid. You might not have seen what she has been doing. That’s a different matter.
Saltburn fans about to figure out the original story
That movie f’ing sucked
WHY ON EARTH IS THIS IN BLACK & WHITE?!!! ARENYOU GUYS NUTS??
This Ripley story was done twice before (Purple Moon & The Talented Mr. Ripley. Both very good), I wish they had gone with another one of the novels. Ripley's escapades don't end here.

Saltburn such a great movie
Best Cinematography ever. Period.
AGREED. I was blown away for 8 episodes. Every shot could be framed
I TOTALLY AGREED 💯... EXCELLENT COMPOSITION AND SHOT
It relies heavily upon the scenery.
Eye-popping cinematography. Gripping script. Masterful performances. Superb direction. Absolutely every element works. Bravo.
You can say that again. Amazing black and white cinematography.
You had me at Andrew Scott. But Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley!?! Countdown to April 4 starts immediately!
Andrew Scott has always been one of those fascinating, magnetic kind of actors, and that makes him so perfect for a part like this. Can’t wait to watch it
Take the entire day to watch it. I went down this rabbit hole yesterday. Could rip myself away from it anymore.... it is awesome!
Looks great. Thing is, what made Tom so unnerving in the original The Talented Mr. Ripley, is that Matt Damon played him so young, inexperienced, and innocent-looking. This Tom says psycho-killer from a mile away.
I wish Damon had changed roles with Jude Law.
@@magloyd4907 That is an interesting thought. I dunno - again, Jude can have a menacing quality to him, and Matt just looked so perfectly 'sweet', baby-faced, and seemingly out of his depth in the part.
@@magloyd4907 oh, and let us not forget the wonderful Philip Seymour Hoffman as the doomed Freddie Miles. Hoffman played snobby sarcastic miserable to perfection.
What you're calling "the original" wasn't the original, by the way. Purple Noon was the original, and it was by far the best.
I think Andrew Scott will do a good job - but to be honest, he's too old. Tom's supposed to be in his early twenties and well Andrew Scott clearly isn't.
As much as I Loved Matt Damon as Tom Ripley..I think I shall Llove Andrew Scott even more..Looking forward to this....
Same!! I can’t wait for this to come out💕
Never saw the other ones? Malkovich played the character in Ripley’s Game, which is a tight little movie, with a little of little eccentricities, of the older Ridley. Then there was Barry Pepper in Ripley Underground a couple years later, in a movie that was pretty much buried. I didn’t even hear about it, until a decade after its release. Very different movies, from the 90’s, Talented Mr Ripley. *oh, and there’s one with Dennis Hopper as Ridley, but I can’t remember the name. It’s from the 70’s. There’s also Purple Noon, which is what Talented Mr Ripley was a remake of.
Alain Delon was better.
It as all from a series of novels if I recall correctly. Where Tom Ripley always just escapes from the police, think they were written in the 60s or 70s.
John Malkovich played him too in one film, he was exceptional!
Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley is brilliant casting. Really can't wait to see this.
Alain Delon is the best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be.
@@Factboy12 He was great too. I'm open to a different interpretation this time around.
This was one of Netflix's highest movie quality undertakings. Screenworthy (but for being 8 hours!), with stylish cinematic flare in every camera angle and every Scott glare. Mesmerizing! And I loved The Talented Mr. Ripley!..... do more of this! See? if you invest in talented writers, you get the cream of the crop!
This is what makes Netflix worth my subscription. A brilliant writer with a powerhouse cast. Can't wait for this series.
Andrew Scott!!! His every performance is stunning. This one will be no exception. I'm still trying to get over All of us Strangers. For those who haven't seen it, please check it out.
And for those who have - see it again! It’s a film for the ages, like this series.
Believe it or not, Ripley is back.
I never believed Riley’s

Andrew Scott = instant WIN. He's a wonderful talent. So glad he's finally in the spotlight.
One of the best cinematic experience. Everything is perfect, the cinematography, screenplay , dialogues , performance.
From the creator of "The Night Of". Oh, hell yeah. I'm about to be locked in on this masterpiece.
Anything Andrew Scott’s in is a much watch!!
Andrew Scott. The cinematography. Dakota Fanning. We're watching, simple.
The Talented Mr Ripley is one of my favorite movies back then… Then this… Im extremely excited for it, having adapted it in B/W makes it more intriguing
Andrew Scott is tossing his hat on the dispute for the Emmys.
I just watched all of us strangers and loved him in it. This looks so interesting! Plus Johnny Flynn!
I don’t think I have ever been more excited for a series than I have until this one. The cinematography, the music, and Andrew Scott? This is going to be fantastic
Andrew Scott plays the charismatic villain so well. So hyped for this.
Having watched both Alain Delon and Matt Damon star as T.Ripley and Andrew being one of my fave actors l can't describe how excited l am for the show❤
Having seen both the Delon and Damon performances, both excellent in their portrayals, I can tell you Andrew Scott's is my favorite.
For me personally, at this point, all the preview has to say is, "Andrew Scott is in this" and I'm interested.
Same! Andrew is a terrific actor and he's always great.
I would watch Andrew Scott paint a brick wall.
Me too😂

Every frame IS a painting in this trailer. Wow.
Cannot wait for this. Andrew Scott is getting the bigger roles and he so deserves it - from his turn on Fleabag and Sherlock to All of us Strangers - such great performances - he's on his way now. I've no doubt he'll be great in Ripley
Another Andrew Scott success ! ❤. 🎉

Finally something worth resubscribing. They don’t make good miniseries like they used to
They do alot.
Check out American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders -- it was insanely good
They actually do a lot.. their main problem is making good films
BTW, The Gentlemen is yet another good series to look forward to on Netflix. Guy Ritchie, Theo James et al
Watched two episodes and didn’t think too much of it . Probably because I was comparing it to the movie…But came back and binged the rest . It’s stylish..sometimes unintentionally funny and unnerving. It was great!
Stunning Cinematography!!!
Some of the most beautiful black and white cinematography you'll ever see!
Its just that in the movie, Matt Damon just kept me feeling always on an edge. The right blend of awkward but ambitious and sinister attitude which was just spot on brilliant and effective. I'm watching this trailer and I am not getting that suspense from Andrew; sure he will bring his own brilliant style to this, but something feels missing. Let's see.
I agree, there was a certain innocence that he had, whether it was the character not understanding how evil he could be, or the evil just being able to put on a simple face. Either way he played it so brilliantly. Definitely looking forward to the series!
Many truly unscrupulous persons are in denial. Yes, I could picture Matt Damon’s Tom in real life. Many real life baddies look innocent, harmless, charming, and they fool so many people. I’m not feeling this version though maybe it’s just the trailer painting a false picture. The machiavellianism is written too plainly on Tom’s face. No one would trust him.
If you haven't read it yet, read the book. This is the REAL Tom Ripley....in the book. Andrews comes very close.
Exactly! Matt’s Ripley gives me secondary embarassement throughout the whole movie, it’s his genius performance of being awkward yet sharply focused on his goal to leave behind all the frustration he has had in his life…his Ripley is the best ever I think. ❤
This made my spring 🌼 Can't wait! Love Andrew Scott 😍
I am beyond excited to see how Andrew Scott is going to play this role!
This is the best thing i've seen in a long long time on Netflix
I look forward to this. The collective resume of all parties involved is stunning. Part of the fun of the original movie was that Matt Damon's Mr. Ripley, despite his youth, was skilled at conning most of the other characters in the film. Even those who should have known better being supposedly so worldly and adept. Tip of the hat to Phillip Seymour Hoffman who was quite a formidable foe to Mr. Ripley. I hope this new limited series, with it's much more mature protagonist, will be an enhancement to the Ripley universe, and not a diminution. It's one of those movies that makes you cringe to think anyone is going to tamper with it. It was just so PERFECT. Massive shoes to fill, indeed.
Jude Law would've made a better Ripley than Damon.
Crazy how many shots here reflect what I was picturing when I read the original Highsmith novel in uni, solidly recommend-- this looks like it comes incredibly close, but will watch Andrew Scott in anything haha
This is going to be EPIC!!! I'm counting down the day's, Andrew Scott is going to be just sheer perfection as Ripley ❤️❤️❤️ ❤
An adaptation of The Talented Mr Ripley? In black-and-white?? Starring Andrew Scott??? Oh! My!! God!!!
Netflix is a platform that caters to the short attention span of most viewers. I haven’t seen cinematography this beautiful on it before *nod to honmy If such a place exists I hope to take it in before I pass. This redo is positively inspiring as a work of art. The detail is as incredible as Dickie’s paintings are elementary and derivative, which rivals Tom’s swimsuit for most revolting detail. Thank you to everyone who applied their craft to bring us this gift.
The swimsuit HAD A BELT!!!
I was in awe by the cinematography the whole time.
The movie with Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow was amazing!!

A masterpiece of modern filmmaking. Just incredible. Perhaps best left as a standalone series but not so outlandish to suggest a sequel… More of this style and level of filmmaking pls

The cinematography looks phenomenal. Ripley has indeed reached our expectations.
This is what the original should have been. We just weren't ready for it then. In this new age of movies now we're ready. And Andrew as Ripley I think will bring a real darkness to the role Matt Damon barely scratched three surface of. I can't Wait!!!!
