  • *TOP QUESTIONS:* *-Why not use an induction coil?* Induction coils are not as efficient as resistance heating. You would need a power supply (+ the battery) the size of a microwave to produce 15kW of heat. Where as with resistive heating, you only need a battery pack to produce 15kW to get that much heat. *-Why isn't the tip red hot?* If the tip was red hot, it wouldn't penetrate at all. It would deform on impact. We can do it (just use a shorter bolt). *-What's the music at the beginning?* It's the Valve intro music in many games. *-Why didn't you use real rebar?* It's not very conductive because it is rusty and bumpy. Hard to make a good connection. That's why we used smooth steel rods. This is shown in the video. *-You should test this against the shield!* The shield would win ;-)

    • You know, as it is said at 20:11, even Hacksmith starts to appreciate the sheer force of bullets, now that he sees how hard it is to penetrate this skull with crowbar, or a rebar from a recurve crossbow, which actually fails to do so at 18:50, and the same happens to an actual crossbow, while the recurve crossbow is stronger than a usual one. There's a lot of videos on YT that show what a usual rifle ammo can do to medieval armor (not to speak of a usual human skull) So, what's OP is the Barrett 50, and even the usual rifles like Mosint-Nagant are OP, this here is video game stuff.

    • If I remember correctly, stuff like the gravity gun is actually considerably heavy to people to hold, Alyx struggles to hold it in Black Mesa East but Gordon is able to carry it like its nothing, so potentially yeah the HEV suit has some strength enhancing abilities

      @Dukeybookey@Dukeybookey2 ай бұрын
  • Like many weapons from games, the whole concept is seriously flawed - but you actually managed to get it working as intended. That is a major accomplishment and I salute you! Good job. Of course the crossbow could be improved by a built-in winch - then you could also increase the draw weight further. Rebar isn't a very good arrow material anyway as it isn't front heavy, so the "arrows" won't fly straight over a longer distance. They will start to tumble pretty soon. Plus, as you clearly demonstrated, it is a stupid idea to heat up your arrows as they will get butter soft. Much easier to make burning arrows with a bit of steel wool and sulfur, or make them ignite on impact.

I am surprised you were able to get a steel rod that is both red hot and rigid enough to be shot from the crossbow and penetrate it's target. Also, just the fact you were able to make a sufficient portable power source is incredible enough. It's crazy how you made this clearly insane idea from HL2 into a working (albeit not practical) weapon. Kudos!

  • This has high implications for great gameplay concepts that could have been added to Half-Life 2's crossbow. •Toggling battery power on and off •Rebar bolts pinning human-sized enemies to surface only when cold. •Heating uses a warmup-timer, affecting the damage of a shot. •More heat = less damage, but a shot would create an area of burn/melt around a target which would enlarge and burn/melt faster the hotter it gets. •On hit, the area of burn/melt would sizzle/skin the surface at low heat, spark some flame at that would burn it over time/melt a gib off of it at medium, and create a scorching fire that would instantly cremate the target at maxium heat. This would also depend on whether the target is more likely to melt or burn first. •This would apply to props and surfaces as well, which could create areas of denial in certain of situations.

Soon, he would take a portal to Xen, kill a testicle spider, and kill a giant flying alien baby. After that, he would be hired by Gman. A few years later, he would wake up in a train that arrives in City 17, meet Barney, Alyx, Kleiner, Eli, and Judith. Fight off Zombies, and Civil protection. He would then fight off more zombies with the help of Father Grigori, escape in the mines, and meet the combine. Then, he would get a buggy, kill some antlions, and drive on the costal road, while killing combines and antlions, and a few zombies. He would then get the power to control the antlions, head to a "high security prison," and fight off more combine with the help of some antlions. Soon he would meet up with Alyx again, and fight off more combine. Soon he would be betrayed by Judith, meet up with Kleiner again, and fight with the resistance to defeat the combine. He would then enter a giant ass building, kill more combine, and then meet Dr. Breen. Judith would help save him, Alyx and Eli. He would then go on and kill Dr. Breen. The end.
