The big ugly spot of nightmares but fun to hook up. Love the improvement they have done to the park, it was destroyed the last time I was there. Took crew boats and helos out of PA, those were the days, sure miss the salt. Hands down one of the richest eco system in Texas that is overlooked, the food in the areas is top notch and cannot find anywhere else. We used to drive to 6 hours just to eat at that restaurant before the twin bridge so heartbroken when it never came back. We miss the shrimp lady too, she was so nice and her shrimp was top notch off the boat, hard not to tear up missing that place.

- There are better place near there to fish and crab. Pleasure Island, the N. levee road has miles of rocks where you can park and catch eater size drum, reds, specks, flounder, crabs and shrimp. For bait you can catch shrimp all year round 2 quarts per person by the out flow on the pond side of that N. Levee. Also S. Levee road, lots of fishing area to yourself, on calm days use bobber and shrimp, water is only 4-10 ft in front of the rocks on low tide. High tide is best fishing. Pass the Rainbow bridge by the wildlife is good for crabs and fishing by the canal, lots of parking space. Lake street is good for crabs and flounder. Take the 87 to Sabine Pass Battleground Park is free open at 8am, good for big drum, reds, specs, flounder. Pass the park make a right on 1st ave which changes to Jetty road, you can park along side the road or go to the end and watch birds and ships go by. Mid March is when the bite really gets good as the water warms, peak is May to June. Then return for the fall run Sept to Oct. Pay attention to the tides, faster the water moves the better. After a hard rain is no good. Lots of mosquitos at night, daytime is okay. You might see a few gators too. Better than any fishing spot in Houston, hands down as far as park and fish.

- I’ve seen a guy from japan fishing in texas for sheepshead with one of these: Yamawa Sangyo No. 046011 Gaff Powerful Mussel Removal He uses it to scrape the barnacles from a wall or piling and uses some for chum and others for bait, if I remember correctly.
