Del Tufo cackling in the background when Chris brings up the cowboys 😂
You can't hear it, but TJ is facepalming in the background as well.
Russell Wilson: You won't find a QB named Wilson worse than me. Broncos: Hold my beer. 🤣🤣🍻
So dirty😂😂😂 Zack going to Denver, going from Jets drama to Sean Payton drama 😂😂😂
Zack will be better than Russ in Denver.
Colts had Marvin before they had Peyton. So yes Rich, you can build outside in.
Yeah Vikings have JJ and Addison before drafting a qb Just a dumb take no offense to Rich lol
Bucs had Mike before the failed Jameis pick at 1 overall and obviously way before Tom and the SB season.
Lions had Calvin before Stafford
Right? Larry Fitzgerald made a HoF career out of being the guy that made the offense work regardless of the QB.
@@Izthefaithful Rich has a lot of really stupid takes.
"Marvin Harrison couldnt win Offensive Rookie of the Year without a good QB", Garrett Wilson, who Rich mentioned two sentences before, won it catching passes from Zach Wilson. Rich has been covering the NFL for 30 years and sometimes I don't think he remembers a lick of it.
Do you really mean this? Very insulting to Rich.
When Garrett Wilson won that award I had the very same thought, who was throwing to him that year, it was Zach Wilson, pretty crazy that he impressed that year with Zach (considered not a good qB) throwing to him. So you make a good point
You know man not everybody experiences life equally to you. I have ADHD and it is difficult to remember the finer details events I experienced including sports facts. It's one of the reasons I never considered trying for a career in sports journalism because remembering events is pretty important. But Rich is fully entitled to have whatever job he wants and he doesn't have to explain to us why he doesn't perfectly remember stuff from a few years ago when he quite literally has to be tapped into every single change in the sports landscape every day of the week for 30 years.
Lol
@donywahlberg Hey, I never said he doesn't deserve his job! Guy's got a great radio voice, good connections, and seems totally amiable, and that's been enough to keep me listening for years. If that's all he needs to make a good life for one's family, I won't hold it against him. And Rich himself probably wouldn't disagree that he can't remember a ton of details- this is the guy who reminds his audience at least twice a week that he's "a narrative guy, not an xs and os guy". All that said, I'm a little exhausted of folks in our society in general stubbornly insisting their opinion is absolutely correct and you'd be silly for disagreeing with them when there's a very clear counterargument. That's all!
Baldest of shows 😊
Rich isn’t bald. He’s balding. This is show lore!
I couldn't HAIR less. 😂😂
Van Pelt and Stanford Steve.
By far the funniest overreaction.
Passing on Marvin Harrison Jr would be so foolish.
Dudes like an action figure. Ready to go right out of the package as soon as you buy it. He's only going to get better too. You know his dad will have him doing everything right like he has so far.
Bro hes sooo good….
He's amazing hall of fame level talent but this is a wide receiver heavy draft I personally think nabers has the exact same skill set
MHJ seems like the full package, and a guy that you will not lose due to dumb stuff like gambling, traffic violations, etc.
Truly. I have heard Pats fan arguing for taking the QB because "what good is a WR without a QB". Idk Pats fans, I think he'd still be pretty good considering he is a fucking generational athlete.
You two should have the red and green on every Monday
Mystery Teams: Rams trade up to take Penix to learn under Stafford for a year Dolphins trade up to take Penix to replace Tua, a lefty to a lefty makes the transition seamless for WRs
That would be filthy
Love this show. They are on fire!!!
That's all just part of the great production on the Rich Eisen Show!
You guys of the few that can have fun without cartoonish bs. Thanks for being awesome
Loved this conversation!!!
"The NFL makes you miss it!"
This may be the most ‘OVER’. these guys have ever had! I loved rhis!
The shiniest podcast on YT
Well now you have to always wear green & red for the podcast 🤣
The problem with us drafting Penix Jr, is that our Right side of the O-line is currently vulnerable & Penix is a lefty! So that’s a cause for concern! 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
If I remember correctly, the draft used to be before free agency, and the NFL changed it for exactly what Rich said, because free agents were losing out on work
it will be good to move up the draft, because one simple and important point: teams can start working on rookies earlier... that will improve the preparation when they get to pre season and season!
Christopher, you get paid to talk my guy. We are here to listen to you boys talk. It won't make the season get here any faster and we the audience enjoy the talk about the off season. So I'm with Rich, stop it.
Respect to Rich. He named the receiver the Lions took for Joey Harrington in the EARLY 2000's! Nice!
The best thing the Broncos can do is tank. They should trade down and build. Start DiNucci and get high picks next year. Then start trying to win. The Broncos trading for Zach Wilson is worst case scenario for them long term. Hell in the short term Zach isnt leading them to any playoff wins.
I agree. Tank with these scrubs at QB and draft a QB top 5 in draft next year
Color matching the heat check is a must-do going forward
moving the draft up a couple weeks is one of the best ones Chris has had, not the dumbest . The news during that last period before the draft is absolutely mind numbing. Chris is right on this one
I think Chris forgot he gets PAID TO TALK. D'oh.
Texans were last year's mystery team to go back to back picks
Whatever qb is drafted by the pats will be traded again in 2-3 years. The team is a dumpster fire. Huge mistake
I wonder who their next coach will be
Calvin Johnson was drafted before Matt Stafford. Sometime you do take the WR and worry about the QB later
Very accurate and it would seem often forgotten.
Ah yes if I’m a GM I’d like to replicate the team building process of the very successful late 2000s Lions
@@TheBattleHoboMarvin Harrison and Peyton Manning.
@@M98747 They won a single championship the year before Marv retired and Peyton proceeded to play in 3 more afterwards. The QB is the straw that stirs the drink.
@@TheBattleHobo Having been born and raised in Indiana, and being a lifelong diehard Colts fan, I'm about to say total heresy: If you watch old Colts playoff games, Peyton was a big reason we didn't do more. He would struggle a lot in big playoff situations with us, especially early on. Make no mistake, I genuinely believe he's the best QB of all time (not greatest, but best), but he did have issues in the playoffs when he was here. Having said all that, I agree with you that a QB is the most important thing. I was just playing devil's advocate with the Marv+Peyton comment.
8:45 Because the Colts didn't draft Marvin Sr. before we had Peyton. 😬 Sometimes having a vet WR that has already developed is the best thing a young QB can have.
Love the heat check odometer
If the Pats take the best QB available or trade down for picks, they're both the great decisions. Both decisions will be second guessed until the Pats make it far into the playoffs again.
Penix to Seattle is spicy
That is very interesting....if I were Minnesota I'd keep the picks pass on JJ McCarthy, and go best pass rusher first. Penix at 23
I love this fucking show.
Same. I wish for longer segments tbh lol
You would think that after years of overstating how many qbs/how high they're going to get taken, Rich would learn something...but here we are.
wishcasting is a term I've heard about before in meteorology but not football. It makes sense though. In weather, it's usually about predicting a storm to be weaker or stronger than the models project because the meteorologist wishes that is what the storm will be
I think teams and players that are signed should be able to practice and interact all year
Idk if I would say the draft is perfectly timed. It’s fine how it is, but idk about perfect
The draft definitely needs to be closer after the combine. I know its to build up hype but waiting that long after the combine doesn't make sense
Jerry says what he thinks. All in is these guys get it right or they are gone. Not stupid or a joke.
Take a look at Michael Penix Jr if you are the Patriots!!! He is definitely the most underrated player in this draft in my opinion (which means Jack) And as a K.C. native and life-long fan, OMG, please let a NFC team pick him
To Rich on taking a QB going to a team with nobody to throw to and an average to below average o-line: How many QBs do we see going into a situation like this and do not work out? The Pats know they are not likely to get their first or second choice at the position, so they are not going to draft a guy they are not completely sold on into a situation where he cannot overcome the weaknesses of their offense in a division with Allen, Tua and Rodgers (assuming he stays healthy). Learn from the Bears : Be patient. Build the team. Evaluate the guys you have while clearing cap space. THEN draft a quarterback into a better situation when the time is right.
I like the free agency idea
Everyone: Take the best available player at the position you're drafting at. It's self-evidently the best decision. Also everyone: Except a WR, because only good teams can use a talented WR1. It's self-evidently the best decision.
Does the Dolphins play the Broncos again this year? We could have another 70 point game while the Broncos doesn't score more than 10 points. Multiple teams could have 70 point games if Broncos QB1 is Zach Wilson. Why wouldn't the QB Whisperer throw another Wilson under the bus after his rookie contract expires? Broncos need to draft a QB such as Pennix Jr and have him sit for a year.
Dude doesn't really believe that it's OK to draft a WR before a QB. They just need something to argue about.
Penix isn't a first rounder and you know it rich, just because you like a guy doesn't mean he's good enough.
I don't like Dallas, but they do draft well.
Yeah, can’t argue with that. I don’t like their coaching hires though.
FHI: Michael Irvin was drafted (by Tom Landry) before Troy Aikman
Don't argue with Rich. You are a "yes" man only.
The thing is lol the NFC East is a two team race. If it was most other divisions, Dallas missing the playoffs would be a lot more of a possibility. Imagine the cowboys in the AFC north
Patriots should take Marvin Harrison Jr 3rd overall. And then trade back up high enough to grab one of the 6 Qb’s I’d love to see Bo Nix. Jarad mayo needs to make a huge move like Domico Ryans did last year. Patriots need to double dip.
RG3 is a turd as an analyst!
Facts!
RG3 saying something makes me believe the opposite which makes me sad for Penix, I like the guy.
Winning the NFC Least doesn't mean ANYthing in Dallas right now! All in SHOULD mean 'Win it all or shut up'. Even Emmet said that.
Patriots need a QB. EVERY draft pick is a dice roll. No sure things. They should take whichever QB of the 3 is there.
Mystery team could be the Rams. I could see them pulling a Chiefs/Mahomes situation for a QB. Sit on that QB behind Stafford just like Mahomes did with Alex Smith.
Drafting a QB into a bad situation is how you ruin them.
Lol...sure ruined Tom Brady. Patriots were 5-11 in '99. But...didn't need the draft capital as Brady was picked in the 6th round. But, seriously...it depends on the franchise. It can crush some players. What is your alternative...the most successful franchises get the best picks? It's the league's attempt at parity.
@@belindamason1339 ok captain obvious. Brady is an anomaly. Also, like you said, he was a sixth round pick. They weren't expecting much out of him. There wasn't a lot of pressure. The situation here is different. If they draft a QB at 3 there's going to be a push to get him on the field asap, especially if the pats are losing. Which will probably happen because that roster has all kinds of needs. Its a bad situation for a rookie QB who needs to develope.
@@violetvalkyrie476 No need for the insult. You never addressed my question. What is your alternative? This is the reality of the NFL. This is the nature of the draft. There have been major busts of great prospects and hidden gems in the later rounds. I guess your comment was such a blanket statement that is why I commented. I did not mean any insult...but wanted to know your alternative. FYI...Brady is the most famous but there was also Zach Thomas (5th), Antonio Brown (6th), Jason Kelce (6th), Terrell Davis (6th) and Richard Sherman (5th) to name a few more famous. But one of my personal favorites is Jack Kemp...picked in the 17th round...served in the military, numerous injuries, played in the CFL and then under Lou Saban won the AFL championship.
@@belindamason1339 the alternative is obvious. You fix the rest of your roster before you waste four or five years of a rookie QBs contract just so he can fail with a bad roster. Fix the roster first so you can get the most out of your rookie QB.
@@violetvalkyrie476 Wow! Pass on that top rated QB then? I agree with sitting a rookie QB. I agree with fixing a poor roster but unfortunately, some teams don't have that luxury. Again...nature of the game and parity. The weakest teams get the highest picks. They have lots of those needs. Done here...waste of my time.
I think the draft happening During free agency would be best for all teams and players. That way there would be nothing off the table. Teams could leverage current players, draft choices, money, or any combination thereof, and organizations could really get stirred up. That would definitely be more exciting for the fans, and I think players would still wind up getting paid just the same.
Zach Wilson is gonna get cut.
Hilarious❤😂
No on Penix for RoTY, Yes on Harrison going to New England.
Can't have Penix sitting for a couple years behind Cousins he's already 24 years old
Of course Zach has a chance to be a week one starter. It’s a small chance because it would involve Payton swallowing his pride and tanking for a year for the number one pick next year but
I think the most overreaction is that Dallas will repeat as NFC East division winners. There hasn't been a repeat NFC East division winner since 2005.
You can't triple stamp a double stamp Chris!
The chiefs just extended Andy Reid for 5 years and other teams think they have a chance lol
I'm taking Brock's side all the way on his Penix take and the off-season take...what happens a week after the World Series? OFF-SEASON, START BUILDING YOUR TEAM. The season never stops let's not pretend it does
Chris is right here. Why draft a QB on a bad offense, with no skill players and no O Line? He's going to get mentally and physically crushed in his first year. Look at what Mahomes came into. HOF pass catcher (two actually with Tyreek and Kelce), Sammy Watkins, Kareem Hunt. HOF play caller slash head coach. The only thing missing was a complete O Line which they fixed a year or two later.
Why wouldn't Atlanta take a QB? Kirk Cousins was wayyyy overpaid. He is 35 coming off of an Achilles injury. Take a guy to sit for a year or two and a 'break glass in emergency' if Cousins has a set back on his injury recovery. Achilles injuries are still career killers and take 1-2 seasons to recover. The older you are the worse it is. Rodgers is no guarantee to be 100% this year despite his unique recovery schedule. If a team likes Nix/ Penix/ Rattler and can sit them a season or two, why not do it? As a Bills fan if Rattler falls far enough I would want Buffalo to draft him (4th round or later) if he falls there. Can never have enough QBs.
ATL gets stripped of the 8th overall pick for tampering, then takes Penix at 43. Kirk re-aggrevates his ACL during recovery, Penix starts the season opener and Cousins never gets the starting job back. You guys sure you aren't the NFL script writers???
The most surprising team to move up would be Seattle
You can't triple stamp a double stamp!!😂😂
As an Eagles fan... I think Howie might trade AJ Brown to New England, and take Malik Nabers at 3
I will say this. If the Lions could draft Calvin Johnson AGAIN they'd do it, with or without a QB. NE taking MH2 is NOT outrageous.
For the sake of these rookie qb’s I hope they are not drafted by the giants or jets.
How's this for a hot take? If Michael Penix isn't picked by Minnesota at 23.... the 49ERS take him at 31.
Why are the raiders (Oakland, LA, Vegas) always some where players want to go but it never ends well for anyone involved
Patriots are going to do to a QB draftee what Houston did to Carr.
24:15 "I mean you're really selling Jacoby Brissett short." Ummm...no he's not, Chris. Brissett is a backup at best. Every season that he's started, he winds up crashing back down to earth, dragging the team he's playing for right alongside him. He's a known commodity who can barely be labeled as qualified & competent with all the poor decision-making & errant throws into double-coverage. Forgoing a QB this year by drafting a WR (like Marvin Harrison Jr.) will not help your Patriot's plethora of issues.
Yes it will? WR is a weakness on that roster, drafting MHJ will make that weakness less weak.
As a 49ers fan I would hate to lose Aiyuk from that offence. But you know what, I think he would be a good fit at Buffalo and I do wonder what his trade value would be to SF
Not knocking this take because it has plenty of reason to be true but when Rich says "after Mac's third year we knew who he was and then we found out Bailey Zappe aint it". I contest that no matter how unlikely it is Zappe develops. He has played I think 10 games in the NFL and has played a .500 pace with a mix of decent throws and some turnovers. If we didn't know who Mac was after 30+ games where he produced similar or worse then I'm not sure it's fair to classify Zappe that way after 10.
"Good receivers have put up numbers for bad quarterbacks." That's true. Garrett Wilson has two 1000-yard receiving seasons despite having the worst QB play in the league. How'd that work out in terms of wins and losses? Take the L, Brockman, and draft a QB for the Patriots. Actually, since I'm a Jets fan, go ahead; draft Harrison and have fun losing for the next several years.
You understand that your argument is self defeating? They took a qb @ 2, how'd that work out in terms of wins and losses?
@@TheMattTrakker terribly. My point still stands though. A good QB can win with so-so receivers if he can "throw them open". A great receiver with a mediocre QB just doesn't work. The defense will just double that receiver and dare the QB to beat them with someone else. That's what happened to the Jets.
I understand Rich's point on not taking wide receivers first before the quarterback, but look at what the Texans have done before they got Stroud
I'm glad for his sake that his stock is rising, but I was so hoping that Penix Jr. would continue to float under the radar and fall to the Seahawks to keep him in Seattle
Heres one for the next over-reaction. Sean Payton makes Zach Wilson look like Brady, to further throw shade at Hackett.
Love Penix Rookie of the Year. Best QB in this draft. My opinion.
"Make the playoffs? At whose expense?! Not the Jets!" lol Rich sounded so pissed off. Deep down he knows if the Jets are getting in it's going to be with the last seed. Can't be any upset miracle teams in the AFC this year eating up valuable spots.
Are the Jets a real team or some kind of comedy relief in sports? I cannot remember a trade that the Jets did NOT get fleeced on. If they had any sense at all they would take the best QB available and sit him behind Rodgers to learn.
20:02 packers will be that team. Youngest team plus 11 picks of which 5 are in the early rounds
ABSOLUTELY no fan of the Eagles, but I think they're going to draft well. If that means being boring, they'll be boring.
If McCarthy or Penix is on the board when the Jets pick at 10, what if the Jets take one? I'd prefer Penix but I'd be happy with McCarthy. Rodgers is gonna need a replacement eventually.
Rodgers has been sooo good for the Jets and they’d be foolish to move on now.
And I wish they would move the nfl season to start in June or july.
The problem is the summer heat
@@quintinfink12 summer heat or winter cold ?
Move the draft up. I'd much rather listen to NBA and NHL playoffs talk. There is too much speculation and BS about the draft.
You mean to tell me Eagles in the last few years have done better in the draft than the Lions?
The Partriots have Jason Rourke and should give him the reigns to the offense.
Isn't the point of UFL to give you football during a time without football? The move the draft talk without even mentioning the UFL is exactly why the UFL will die in 5 years.
What a ignorant question if Wilson will lead Denver to the playoffs, like how about over/under 0.5 snaps for him this season. Like he is competing for the 3rd string spot with DiNucci
Bills have about 10mill in cap space how would they sign Brandon A
Good WRs have put up good numbers with bad QBs. True. BUT... Teams don't win super bowls with top 15 receivers. Seriously. Go look it up. Besides Mike Evans, most top picked WRs don't win the Super Bowl (at least with their original team). They might put up big numbers, but it doesn't translate to the SB win.
He lost the Pickett trade ... Khunman Got'em
