  • For curiosities sake, I put this order into my Walmart app and the same (almost) exact items would be $22.35 here in NJ. However, we only have 10 packs of the ChiChi Tortillas available unlike your 12. 😕 Inflation is wild.

  • I agree that the dried beans are too time consuming after work, even when I use the Instant Pot for them it’s more time than I care to spend on one thing after work. Rice in the Instant Pot works well for me though, I don’t mind doing that one after work.

  • Canned beans are fine, but dried is the most economical. To save on time, soak a whole pound overnight. Then you can use your instapot and pressure cook for about 10 minutes. Cool beans and portion them out in cansize amounts (about 1 1/2 cups and freeze. Now you have convenience without paying for it. Plus it just tastes better.

  • 1) I hope you continue these kind of presentations was it budget meals. But they always seem to include Mexican /Spanish Which of the unfortunately I cannot consume. Could you suggest an Italian style or some other nationality on a budget? 2) Why don't you ever mention the cookbook you recently wrote? Or promote it? C'mon girl! 3) cutting the potatoes using an apple slicer from end to end makes the job easy too! 4) I like to toss my potato slices in a bowl with a little olive oil - avoid the sprays with propellants and toss with a packet or 3 tablespoons of ranch dressing. 5) I always dump my frozen veggies into a Pyex/Corningware dish with a lid when using the microwave. No added toxins necessary from the cooked plastic. Keep up the great videos, Jen! I'm a longtime viewer.

  • Hi jen, I would like to see how you would "budget " a grocery shop when someone is doing a special diet. Like keto/low carb. Or any diet I love your budget grocery shopping and cook with me and get alot of inspiration. I myself have been on a healthier journey, and I find it hard in the budget sometimes to get what I need and get what my family wants. They are not on said journey. Lol.

  • Actually, anybody can make beans from scratch with an Insta pot. It’s literally 45 minutes and you don’t have to soak your beans ahead of time but then again, you could also pre-cook them on the weekend or days that you don’t work and actually freeze them ahead of time put them in the fridge raider the night before the fire out and they have cooked beans and ready to go literally in 5 to 7 minutes for a meal! Another good thing is to do make ahead freezer meals. Skip the convenience because it’s more expensive, but I do understand that a lot of people do need convenience foods from time to time, and our household uses them as well but for the most part skip the convenient foods, make it on the weekend or when you have a day off and do a couple of freezer meals, double batch them and then you have freezer meals that you made that are cheaper that go in your oven And then you have dinner done super easy and quick 1:06

  • Nice and easy. $20 a day for 3 meals a day @30 days that’s only $600 a month…that’s a great budget for a family of four to follow. I realize it doesn’t include drinks or snacks or a lot of things but if you’re really trying to stick to a strict budget, I suppose it’s doable. Eating really well is definitely a privilege, sadly.

  • I loved this video, and I'd definitely love more like it. We have 4 kids, so groceries are very expensive for us right now. Anything that helps us buy groceries for less is appreciated. I do also appreciate the mix of fresh and convenience things. I work from home, but I do work full time and my girls are grown but live here (college) and we have a 17 year old son with severe autism and a 7 year old with ADHD. So I always feel tired and super busy. Your videos are so helpful. Also, I've never heard hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls called pigs in blankets. Pigs in blankets here are smoked sausage in crescent rolls or biscuits or some kind of dough but not hot dogs. Just thought that was interesting. It's super close, though.
