I like how in these, PC is seen as a work unit and Mac an entertainment unit, yet nowadays PC's are a prime gaming platform and Mac for work like graphic design and audio/video production

Very true but in those days, work was spreadsheets and fun was photo/video/audio.
Actually, gaming isn't the only thing a PC is good for. PC is great for entertainment and graphic design, video/audio productions too. I'd say it's even better than a Mac if you take the desktop route since you're free to upgrade to the bleeding edge hardware which Macs lag behind or you can upgrade little by little in accordance to your budget instead of buying a whole new computer everytime. Also PC is cheaper option making video/audio production and graphic designing more affordable and flexable. PC has tons more advantage especially in today's age.
@@DreamyAbaddon it's always had more options. The appeal of the Mac (more so back then) was that you didn't need to "know" how to do ANY of that shit to use it. "Creatives" gravitated towards it because they could jump right in and start editing. Whereas on PC, you had to know which software to buy/install and you had to be a nerd or enthusiast to know which setting to tweak and know they're buried to get the most out of the PC. Mac was more of an all-inclusive (in its own way EX-clusive) out-of-the-box experience.
These commercials were always so charming, well directed and well acted. Whether you use a Windows PC or a Mac (or if you're like me, both) there was no denying that this campaign was one of the best of all time.

It was a great campaign, but many years later, nothing has changed. Windows still has the huge market share worldwide. Windows is still used by US gov't, US military, and the largest corporations.
@@DerekDavis213 Well, to be fair, Mac OS X has reached a peak of 30%+ of the desktop OS market share in the US and 16% currently worldwide, 4x more than the 4% when the campaign ran. So while Windows is still dominant for many reasons, Mac (and to a lesser extent, Linux) are gaining some ground.
@@BensDumbHandle macOS in no way has 30 percent of US market. Go to all the largest richest corporate offices in America, and see if 30 percent of employees have a Mac on their desk. Years ago, Mac could run Windows software perfectly using Boot Camp. Millions of Mac owners loved that. Today, Apple SIlicon does not run Windows software properly. On the desktop, Linux is even less popular than Mac.

On MacOS you have to go to settings, find wherever they hid the security page in Ventura, click allow, scan your fingerprint and write an essay about how you want to open the program, okay I made up the last one, but you get the point. Besides MagSafe having returned on the new MacBook Pros, there are some third-party magnetic USB-C charging connectors that work like MagSafe, plugging into one of the Thunderbolt/USB-C ports on the 2016-2020 MacBook Pros and 2018-present MacBook Airs. I got one for when using my M1 MacBook Air on the go, and it does the trick nicely (though I tend to find myself plugging said magnetic connector into my Falwedi USB-C hub if I need to use any USB-A devices or read an SD card or output to HDMI).
That's why I still rock my awesome MacBook Pro 2015 specced out: I will have it till it's dead - that's, 9 years now still going strong

Mac: High-resolution graphics design and compatibility with iPod, iPhone, etc. PC: Usually gaming, work (Microsoft Office!), upgradability, value for money, and others. What else can be said? (I'm a PC user, myself, by the way.)

Except mac can game... It can run Minecraft, CS:GO, GTA V, Tf2, Terraria, Rocket League, Stardew Valley, League of Legends, and alot more. All at good FPS. You can also install bootcamp and double boot windows onto a mac so all the games are available and run even smoother. Oh wait, you can't do that on a PC? Sorry.
sleepydash actually, when you game through boot camp, your games never run like they would on a pure Windows machine, boot camp is like an emulator with Windows running over Mac OS. And actually you can get a PC and install Mac OS and Windows with a dual boot system if you really like the Mac OS that much. But for the best gaming experience, windows is the way to go because it the games will run like they're supposed to on the operating system they were designed for, rather than being emulated. Also Mac's were never really meant for gaming, they're actually designed like a workstation with multi thread performance for multitasking and CPU intensive tasks such as video editing. For the price of a Mac, you could build a gaming PC with 5 times the graphics performance in videogames.
***** Mac isn't even designed for videogames in the first place tbh. They are designed for office and business use, maybe even educational. Considering they put Xeon processors in their most expensive computers, they are either workstations or business computers depending on the purpose.

One of the reason the ads is so good for me is because it's just basically a friendly conversation here. It's short, actually funny, and creative. It's not "haha you suck!" ads that people try to do now.

I was a Mac zealot in the ‘90s but I learned a grudging respect for PCs when I worked a series of jobs where that’s all they had. They really are quite capable machines, and Microsoft has a tougher job in some ways than Apple does, having to create software that runs on a vastly greater variety of hardware configurations. Apple on the other hand does have a deep sense of design and taste that truly sets it apart among corporations. I prefer Macs and use them at home but to each their own, live and let live I say. You’ll be happier. And these are damn funny commercials. John Hodgman and Justin Long -- what a great pair.

AidenD75 MagSafe is better than USB cables for powering stuff because it's SAFE and will detach at the magnet instead of possibly killing ports that will cost $1,200 repair because of "water damage" at the Apple Store.

The way I’ve always seen it is that these ads are super entertaining and after seeing the end of the one Apple event where are the PC guy returns, I figured it would’ve been nice to bring these ads back. And personally I think of it this way, each computer platform has their advantages and disadvantages. You can say the same for Linux as well. I’ve been a PC user for many years. I still use those today although I’m a primarily a Macintosh user. But I like to use all three platforms considering that they all have their own unique way of doing things.
Come 2021, Justin Long sells out to Intel. Another funny chapter really.

My PC is a dual-partition Windows and Ubuntu. Since I adore the Linux mascot as well as Diddy Kong, I call it my Rareware-Linux PC. Funny enough, these ads came out in the Golden Age of Internet with a HUGE fanbase of Tux as well as the Dark Age of Microsoft, not just Vista, but of Microsoft's Rare as well.
However, even so, Apple doesn't have a suitable mascot like Master Chief or Tux.

4:09 there is no excuse for Apple to have removed the magsafe power port from the new Macbooks. It's a great feature and here they show they know it. There's enough room for the port so bring it back Apple.

these are some of my favorite ads of all time, so brilliant!
They tried these ads here in the UK with two well known comedians and it totally failed. We sided with the loveable, nerdy loser PC and hated the smug Mac. They pulled the ads after a week or two.

Mac can "game' Gta V because it is very well optimized but if you want the full experience switch to pc. Otherwise I have been playing Forza Horizon 3 and BF1 and mac can't support that.

It feels weird seeing Mac ads that try to make Windows out to be the stuffy business nerd computer and Mac out to be the cool kid average person computer considering I've never heard of people using Mac outside of really, REALLY specific tech/work stuff while Windows is basically everyone's first and default computer and Linux has the hipsters covered.
At this point in history it was basically the opposite. Final Cut Pro and other software existed but it wasn’t what people were buying Macs for. You were paying the premium for a hassle free experience. Even back in the 80s it was like that

I love how none of these adverts point out the amount of software that doesn't work on a mac, and the fact you are stuck with a single piece of hardware until a new mac comes out because most hardware doesn't work with mac. PCs are just more upgradable and better all around.

Back in those days just about everything on the internet was geared for Windows. I had an iMac and I was disappointed so many times because they didn't have mac versions of things. Got rid of the mac in 2005 and never went back.

Alex Mauney Actually OSX has always been faster and easier to use than windows. That's why I switched to OSX after a decade of using windows. But if you think windows is better, please enlighten me.
I mostly prefer Windows because its much cheaper, its more customizable, and its overall more user friendly. Not to mention, I use my computer mostly for gaming.

+Holzkohlen Sadly yes... when you ask a person why they bought a Mac, they usually say something that originated from these commercials. All I hear from these people are parodies from Apple commercials which they tend to lose these arguments almost every time. Of course some of these PC guys over-exaggerate a bit but no Mac users ever catch them because they have too little knowledge of computers to pick it up. Funny to read though.
+Holzkohlen People don't buy Macs for any reason in any of these. Apple portrays themselves as the "cooler" brand by representing themselves with a younger and cooler, more well known actor. People buy Apple products because they make the user feel cool, they make the user feel popular. They give the user a feeling of importance, status, and prestige. Its basic advertising people, those things I just said tap into human nature- in other words everyone wants a feeling of importance and that is something that Apple products provide that PC's don't. the stuff you guys are saying for reasons why PC's are better is shit that literally nobody cares about. They care about their feeling of importance and they will pick that feeling of importance, status, and prestige over a "better" computer any day. Its human nature and basic advertising and branding. Anybody who knows "shit about shit" knows that.

I live in a community of diehard mac supporters because I'm right next to Apple Campus and didn't get influenced. My school only allows us to use their macs during schooltime, yet I didn't get influenced. I am young and even many adults here support macs, yet I didn't get influenced. I still stand for the facts over the peer pressure. I still stand for the facts over an illogical feeling of importance. I don't have human nature. I am apparently not human... Except mac can... It can run Minecraft, CS:GO, GTA V, Tf2, Terraria, Rocket League, Stardew Valley, League of Legends, and alot more. All at good FPS. You can also install bootcamp and double boot windows onto a mac so all the games are available and run even smoother. Oh wait, you can't do that on a PC? Sorry.
