Fun fact: Jong Tae-Se/Chong Tese (NK's No. 9 in this game) had a pretty successful pro career after the world cup and played for example for 1. FC Köln. He's still the only player from NK in the whole Bundesliga history. Currently he's playing in the first Japanese league.

According to a well known North Korean defector who is now a journalist, the manager and his family (wife and 1 daughter) were actually executed few months later for an unknown reason. He wrote article on dongailbo about this in 2020. This was actually a serious incident in North Korea, as it was first game that was ever broadcast live. All the North Korean political and military leadership gathered at Pyongyang stadium to watch the game live, and two elderly North Korean military generals died of heart attack on the scene. Perhaps the unfortunate football manager could've kept his life if Portugal didn't play as hard and won something like 3-0 instead. The manager actually worked very hard to bring North Korea to world cup for first time in 44 years. It should be noted that these Portuguese footballers indirectly contributed to gruesome death of 3 innocent people.

I remember when they talked about the reports showing North Korea at the World Cup. The first game was against Brazil and they lost 2-1 and as the match was recorded, they edited the video to make it look like they defeated Brazil 0-1. Kim Jong-un's government was excited about the "real result" of the previous match and had the match broadcast live. The result was this: the North Koreans watched their team being massacred live and to this day, they say that the players of that team were executed, which may be true.

People are reporting that the coach was shamed or whatever after returining to NK and forced to work as a bricklayer, I want to point out that that was reportes by radio free asia a notiriously biased source and it is most likely false. If anyone wonders most of the players kept still playing for the nk national team afterwards while the coach while sacked is most likely now coaching a 2nd tier team in the north korean league. So while he got "punished" It was hardly that severe.

The manager actually worked very hard to bring North Korea to world cup for first time in 44 years. It should be noted that these Portuguese footballers indirectly contributed to gruesome death of 3 innocent people.

If anyone wonders most of the players kept still playing for the nk national team afterwards while the coach while sacked is most likely now coaching a 2nd tier team in the north korean league. So while he got "punished" It was hardly that severe.

This is the best "show" I ever seen in my life.
They were actually playing decent till 50th minute. They even created some decent chanced as well. However, their defense always seemed like a problem and after the 50th minute when it crumbled it never seem to recover.
