Metallica perform "Phantom Lord" off of their 1983 debut album "Kill 'em All" with former guitarist Dave Mustaine who is now playing with Megadeth. Recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 10th, 2011 (the last of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts).
That Dave guy is pretty good, he should start his own thrash metal band.
And rewrite one of his bands old songs as a fuck you to them!

They're all much older wealthier having health and family issues etc It's likely what happened in 1983 is child's play given what life throws at us after 40.
I like how kirk is holding back and letting dave be out front like that. Out of all of them i think kirk is the most comfortable with himself, his ego, and his playing ability. Dave is just great on this, his playing has slowed down a bit, but it just gets better and better.

Dave Mustaine is the Phantom Lord, whose shadow loomed over Metalliica throughout their career. Since Ulrich and Hetfield fired Mustaine, it became obvious Dave was the best songwriter of the three.

Dave has really over the years stood the test of time, going from what was the " made fun of kid" to the " man with the last laugh" retaining more skill and talent by a landslide. Respect.

By Dave's open admission, they were just young alcoholics: "They got stupid when they were drunk. When I got drunk, I was just mean and wanted to pick a fight. The problem is that we were drinking every day."
I met Mustaine at a restaurant once - we’d accidentally been given his table. Apparently he was fond of the restaurant and had a specific table he liked, and the management had messed up and gotten their days wrong, (it was Tuesday and they thought he was coming on Thursday or something like that). Anyway, the manager, completely embarrassed (this is a pretty nice restaurant) comes by and says “I’m so sorry, but we’d like to move you to another table if you could be troubled, and we’ll gladly compensate you for the cost of the meal and any other meal you’d like while you’re in town.” My sister and cousin were both like “Yeah that’s cool.” and I kind of played the asshole a bit. “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. We’ve been here for 15 minutes - we’ve just ordered. Can’t we finish our meal here?” Then out of nowhere Mustaine shows up next to the manager and says “Paul, these guys can finish. We’ll be at the bar. I got some time.” And I (being a big Megadeth fan) said “Oh wow, uh… I had no idea. Please feel free to give them the table.” Mustaine was grateful, shook my hand and said thanks, then gave me a card with his number on it and told me to give him a call later. After working up the nerve, I gave him a call that night, and to make a long story short, we had a glorious 11 month love affair, man on man, that I shall never forget. Our bodies intertwined as one, and from the beauty of Frankfurt, to Shanghai, to the snorkeling in Boracay, Dave Mustaine and I made glorious gay love to each other on six of the seven continents.

Love to see this! I go back with these boys to No Life Till Leather. I saw Kirk Hammett shredding his guitar, plugged into a high school in Sacramento, Ca. I grew up on both Megadeth and Metallica and am fond of both. Dave is my #1 favorite tho. Megadeth is just so, next level. I'm 53 now and still appreciate Metal just as much as I did as a teen. My word of advise to you youngsters... Live Life to the fullest, but take care of yourselves. You only live once, but you only get one body. You can have a lot of fun and still be responsible.
