The M4A1 76 W in War Thunder is my FAVORITE tank in War Thunder. There are many reasons why but the combination of its 76mm cannon, short stabilizer and low battle rating makes this thing an absolute monster.
In the right hands the M4A1 76 (W) is one of - if not - THE best tank in the game. Able to penetrate every enemy you'll face easily and with the ability to get the first shot off every time, it's just an absolute joy to play.
Most people give all the credit to the Tiger, Panther, T-34 or IS-2 but the real King is the Sherman 76!

At 4:19 you only damaged 1 fuel tank, so the engine wasn't damaged. You can see the fuel tank on the other side is fine.

The Sherman tank is the quintessential definition of "Enough". It has enough armor, enough mobility, enough speed, and enough firepower. Adding in the stabilizer, and you've got something that in the right hands will CLAP the enemy. And then, of course, you're gonna have a line-up of like 5 of them.
well, I mean, the entire point of the real-world version was that they made "enough" of them...a couple times over. seriously though there are SO many "different" kinds of shermans that basically amount to attachments for different jobs that there are more kinds of shermans than many countries had kinds of tanks total and that's just counting the ones that actually got production lines let alone the grunt mods. they made so many different shermans because if you made a tool for a specific job you _might_ get 1 of them but if you made it a modular mod to slap onto a sherman base you'd get 5 and probably even have the shermans to mount them on because the primary stopgap on production of anything for America at the time was setting up tooling and a production line so it kinda _was_ easier for them to make another 5-10 shermans than to make 1 of something else.
Also reliability. They had to work reliably (enough) for a long time and able to be fixed in field conditions, because you weren't shipping them back to the factory like the Germans could.

@@Jay-ln1cothe allies could ship tjem back to the UK if needed the Germans didn’t have enough logistical abluties to ship their tanks back to factories which led to them doing mainly field repairs and even then most if their tanks including the Tiger and Panther were so over engineered that made it impossible to repair

The 76 m4a1 is really a great tank, the first time i unlocked it, it topped my all time rp and sl gains in less than a week compared to all my vehicles!
The trolly armor is the best part. Plus it has a lot of good looking skins to go along with it.

That slow speed stabilizer really goes a long way
I've been saying this for years...the m4a1 76 and the M24 Chaffee (even at 3.7) is the best combo for ground RB.
I run this lineup with an M10 as well. I like to start the game in the M10 and get a few kills so I can get enough SP to bring in the rest of my lineup no matter what happens.
Throw a T14 in there and it’s one of the best line ups in the game.

The a2 should be 5.0 and the a3 should be 5.7, and while they're at it they can move the T20 back to 5.7 and the M6A1 back to 4.7
@user-wc8fp4jz4w The performance difference is definitely noticeable though. Better suspension and engine gives the tank a much smoother acceleration, allowing it to be far more opportunistic, the turret armor is very strong to the point it can repel Panther shots and the hull is surprisingly durable when you use it in a hulldown position. Though I do agree it should be 5.3 instead, but I'd only accept that if they bring the T-34-85 down to 5.3 aswell.
@@hunlepto2239 The performance difference is negligible. We're not talking about planes here. A slightly better engine and suspension is useless if your tank is already stabilized and fights 70 ton behemoths with twice and much armor who can go through your ufp like its butter

My beloved M4A1 76 ❤️ I have three times more kills in this tank than any other on my service record. This and the T14 with a P47 is a god tier line up
Weird cast armor. My favorite tank. Not on looks though, barely beat by the M48. Edit: it actually is the exact same diameter as the 75. But it is called 76 cause that made logistics easier.
That’s the 3” and 76(.2)mm guns. Same diameter but named different as they had different breaches so ammo wouldn’t be shared
@@hoosierfarmkid Same reason the British called their 3" shells for Commet "77mm"- it was the same 3" shells used in the 17-pounder but with different shorter casing incompatible with the 17-pounder so they called it different name to avoid confusion.
Same with the 106mm recoilless rfifle.

My second favorite vehicle! I'm almost getting an Ace crew based on score. The BR being 4.7, decent reload and the factor of stability makes this tank amazing
Dude I've been playing this tank all week and I don't know why I haven't been playing for the last 8 years. It is just awesome. Yeah slow but goes anywhere and kills. It's like a long lost friend. I average 5 to 10 kills every game. Beautiful tank simply beautiful
you probably already know but the vertical stabilizer works when going to cc 2 as well, so you can go from full cc to cc2 and the stabilizer will work as fast, pretty fun to go full steam ahead around a corner and just have tap q.

@@coreliousc8915 stabilizer is by far the most overpowered feature in the game by far from 3.7 to 6.7, if you use cruise control you can just flick the hull around and toggle between cc1 and cc2 and constantly snapshoot weakpoints, most the US mains still bitch that the stabilizer has a speed limit because they can't figure out how not to W-max

I remeber watching you play this before I got into Warthunder in one of your older videos and gave it a try. I can proudly say that the M4A1 76 really made me love the game, especially with the combo of my first ace tank in the M36.
Now that you've done the a1 76, you should do the a3 76 just to show how the stark difference in br plays out for basically the same platform with a slightly more responsive hull.
Responsive in what sense? Like the armour/survivability or the reaction time/agility?

Or if he meant responsive, as in the games implementation of the hull armour (more armour overlap,weird cuts and angles or something, making it trolly in the game) I don't get if he means it's a good tank or whether it sucks due to having a different BR... I played this vehicle some time ago when it was 5.3 and it was my favourite sherman not only because it just in right hands could handle everything I met. Then BR changes came and I couldn't understand why it went down, the potential of this vehicle is so big

Shermans with stabs are the reason I went US main first, as I didn't want to suffer while grinding the tech tree.
Back when the 76 could only penetrate 125mm it was pretty awful grinding through US rank 3. Eventhough i had above 2kd in the M18 i still found it incredibly frustrating to play when a tiger 1 at any range could've angled and won every time (not anymore now), so i bought the prenerfed T29 and skipped every sherman that wasn't the M4A1, M4, and the M4A1 76.
I personally have known about this tank for a while. It’s so good in my opinion that I have an entire lineup based around it and the T 14.
I have always adored the M4A1 w76 Sherman, just the blend of agility and general flexibility to what you can do with it makes it so much more fun compared to the counterparts of the T-34-57/85 and the Pz.4 H (when it was at 4.7 ages ago). Not to mention the M4A1 chassis seems to be snappier for acceleration versus the M4A2 variant in regards of just straight line speed and turning.
Idk why the M4A2 is so sluggish. It should drive nicely, being powerex by a diesel engine. I remember reading anecdotes of british crews in M4A2, and they liked how they drove compared to the petrol engines.
Couldn't agree more on everything you said Odd. I actually watched your last vid on this tank a year or so ago and proceeded to grind the US tech tree just to play the M4A1 76W (previously a UK and China tech tree player) It's currently my highest KDR tank in the game, highest earning vehicle and highest number of matches.
last Time i saw you play this was that one story video and since then I got the tank and have over 3000 kills with it. Loved the story vid and I already know I'm going to love this one
When I first started using this tank (I hated it, racking up a K/D of 0.9) When I learned how to play this tank (particularly as a flanker, and support). It caused ABSOLUTE Carnage (nearly at a K/D of 2.0) I always use it with T1E1 at 5.0(which is even more ridiculous) and its FUN🤤
I have no idea why, but I like the look of this cast hull sherman over the welded ones.... I use this variant in my 5.3 line up, it still fits perfectly.
I like how you can pair this one with the other two Sherman '76 (the non-Jumbo ones with the different hulls, slightly higher BR ) and get a helluva lineup for ground RB. Take out the higher BR ones first (adjust play-style slightly to higher BR, and have a good backup that packs the same punch as your main vehicle, albeit with worse armour. Never been much of a Sherman player, but ones I unlocked and spaded the '76 (non-Jumbo ones) A fun go-to lineup for me, for when I out of it a bit and other line-ups/BR's don't treat me well.

This is hilarious because my sons and I have been running this tank together for the last couple of days. I was like “M4 76w? Meh.” Then we started playing it and I was hooked. It just kind of does everything okay, which is okay with me. I’m having a lot of fun in the game right now playing this.
Can't wait for this tank to have a br increase solely because of OddBawZ here. Seriously though good video again, Shermans are just such satisfying tanks to have fun with.
Came back to this video because I finally started my tank grind after watching Phly and thinking I'd have a good time with it. I was wrong at first, and it's still a challenge to learn, but I am improving. Finally getting to rank 3, and you guys were right, it went to 5.0 lmao.

You need to play the 8.0 OF40(Italy) it is the same BR as the leopard 1 but has more horsepower, funkier turret armor, pretty good suspension...... oh yeah...... it has it laser rangefinder too.

The m4a3 105 recently got moved up to 3.0 but it still rocks and is still my favorite tank to play in war thunder its got that extra cheeky front armour and i think you should really play it for a video

I really like playing the Churchill NA75. The thing is a beast if you can use the gun depression. I just play it like a TD when zoomed in. British Sherman 2 is fun also.
This tank was the first one I went from stock to spaded in SIM, I shot down a ju-87 with the main gun in SIM as well, one of my favorite memories in war thunder.

My favorite memory driving this tank was when a German player who lost 2 Tiger 1's and was actively looking for me in a Panther, was saying the M4 was OP. Complaining mostly about how it shouldn't have such an easy time killing a Tiger etc etc... I promptly disassembled his panther to the point he rage-quit. Brilliant.

Till this day that tank is my #1 in kills and K/D. I used it to grind out all the way up to 6.7 because i couldnt get use to the other brs until i got better. Havent used it in a long while as i like 7.3 now but i may have to take it out for a spin soon

the funny thing is that when i bring out the M4A2 76w and the M4A1, i always survive longer/ the whole round and get more kills when i use the M4A1 76W
M4A1 has slightly better mobility and M4A2 has slightly better armor profile. M4A3 is basically best of both worlds.

The other selling point for the M4a1 76w is that it has the fix for the ammo exploding so it greatly improves survival ablitity

Like the a2 better just for looks. My a1 is made up to like the IN THE MOOD. Also be nice for machine guns to be reloaded slightly before going empty since they’re belt fed and those belts LINK TOGETHER.

My favorite tank is the Jumbo 76W. Basically the same tank but just better armor and now with Tiger E being at 6.0 you get way less Tiger II in your round.

The main problem with this tank is the side armor that wraps to the front. Anything down to even reserve tier can always pen you no matter your angle as long as they have roughly 40mm of pen. You have to hide the chassis entirely otherwise. I kill them all the time with an Ostwind from the front, often with just a single 37mm round.
This has been my favorite tank so far as a new player in USA rank 3!! Let's gooooooo.

The main thing that makes the gun scary isn't the extra 1mm do the bore. No it the extra 5 feet added to the barrel length. Allowing for pretty much all of the primacord(the propellant in tank shells at the time) to fully burn.

I've been playing USA up to 5.0, and decided to try Germany. The lack of stabilizer in the Panzer 4 F2, G, etc made me miss the Sherman so bad, plus the armor being practically useless
tiger hunters! i first played the us tech tree for the classic wwii shermans, but expected hard times because of its "ronson" reputation. you can be an absolute menace with a balanced wwii american lineup. i ended up getting the m4a2/3, jumbo, m36b2, and m19a1(😈)👍

One other bonus is the (W) represents wet ammo storage. Only the shell hit in the rack changes colour the risk of ammo rack is wayyy less

Hey OddBawz, here's an enjoyable video idea: Play 1.3 USA (maybe with M8 Scot or the M8 LVT), with the TBD and F3F. Both of them have received some crazy buffs since your last video! You *need* to use the bomb sight, though, so that you don't dump energy getting super close. It makes your bombs really accurate. The TBD got insane new custom loadouts. It can take 3 x 500 lbs and 2 or 4 x 100 lbs bombs. Don't take 6 though, I've got 2,700 games in the TBD and trust me 6 will weigh you down and make you unable to deal with enemy planes. The F3F turns a hell of a lot better now, plus its bombs drop individually. Besides that, it outruns, outdogfights (beats I-15 by going vertical), and outclimbs every other biplane in the game, even the I-153 at a whole BR higher.

I have taken the P204 up to 5.3 the past couple days and lets just say it can bully a lot. M18s go bye, so do M36s. I also managed to kill a Jumbo and a 105mm sherman

Once you hit combat area limit speed to stabilization... bam you are the only stabilized 150mm pen oneshotting aphe boy around, and your armor can even stop one or two lucky things sometimes. Panther is straight up stronger but w/e.
