In this video we show a brutal game of tug of war between 8 extruders. The winner will be placed on the Optimus P1 3D printer for the upcoming large projects. We're pleasantly surprised by how these matches went. You can really see the extruders struggling and we have a well deserved winner!
I made a Twitter thread which goes a bit deeper into the inner workings of the rig itself. / 1573346058985422851

Hi everyone! In this contest we really push the boundaries of these extruders. Or should I say pull? Remember that the outcome of this event should not influence any buying decision. There are other factors at play when choosing the right extruder, like ease of use, weight, mounting options, extrusion consistency and durability. Extruders mostly exert pushing forces on filament where the filament "wants" to buckle. This is part of what makes printing flexible filaments so difficult. This is the opposite of what we show during this contest. But hey, this is a fun way to compare extruders!
Don't forget that their Intro Theme Song is also a factor in choosing an Extruder. :)
Season 2? OMG DM1 Orbiter 2 and a few other new extruders should be included.
cant wait ,but keep it short 4min 7min at most@@buzzbbird
This video needs an award for concept, editing and originality ... I even didn't mind the loud music and watched through the whole ad part without skipping it.
I know!! This is so goofy, but I love it!
I think clean audio without that much added background noise would be better but I have to say it is a original video
AvE inspired... all of proper's vids are awesome
This is straight gold. Well done! The bobcat did it for me. haha
Yes!
Just to clarify, it's a skid steer. Bobcat is a name brand of skid steer. Cheers!
@@IamJoeTV I tired so hard to think of the name. Haha. Slipped my mind. Eitherway, it was icing on the cake to the whole vid.
@@3DPrintSOS Haha no problem at all, it was a great video. It showed me that my purchase of micro swiss was the right choice well for this kind of test anyways haha
I hope you know that you've just raised the bar really high for all the other 3d printing channels! Thank you! 😄👍
Wow guys!!! Im speechless! This is some serious pro editing and pro video making. I enjoyed watching it.. I did it twice hehe. I can't imagine the amount of work you have put into this. Thanks a lot for the laugh you gave me too. Big fan of your work here!! 👏
proper extruder Vz-HextrudORT next?
i would love to see more of this, like perhaps a hemera vs hemera xs, titan, lgx, stock creality extruder, knockoff bondtech vs genuine bondtech, etc
also adding to that, an orbiter, sherpa mini, and biqu h2
Thanks for the suggestions! If it catches on we might do a similar event with different contestants :D
I'd like to see an OMG extruder in there too.
@@properprinting Are we gonna get Extrudamania 2024?
Why has this not been done before?! Jon is so much more than a beautifully mopped skull, he's an amazing brain as well. Love the "crowd" and voice overs too
Definitely one of the best "ahoot out" series! Well done! Watching you doing a "field repair" at 12:40 , and then seeing your hair afterwards had me literally rolling on the floor!
Jon, your projects are always amazing. The Proper Extruder speaks for itself. But you also pair it with the best videos. I agree with the other comments. This video concept deserves an award. This is premium youtube content. Nicely done guys!
What an epic production. Just off the charts wow. This is an idea like we all dream of doing for video in our heads, but never end up doing. Epic. Just blown away by it. Awesome.
Entertainment factor was through the roof holy crap!!! Amazing job! Not easy to make a comparison of extruders entertaining so job well done! 👏
Such a fun video! I can't imagine how much time went into creating it. Thanks for the entertainment!
Thanks! Setting everything up, the filming and editing was quite the challenge. I had to learn some basic Adobe After effects skills too and it was well worth it :D
Whoever said videos about 3D printer components have to be a listing of specs, need to watch this video. Brilliant work, just brilliant.
I was rooting for your design! Great video man!
Awesome. I would like to also see the poor man's LGX - the Triangle labs TBG-Lite and the LDO Orbiter v2.
I LOVED this! You're killing it Man 👍❤️ come a long way from printing on carpet tiles 😂
Wow that's an oldie! :D
For such a small channel, you basically trump any other with original ideas and production value. Awesome stuff!
Thanks Vincent!
This has got to be the most fun to watch 3d printing video ever!!! Great job guys!
I love this, it's so extremely over the top and silly whilst still being actually interesting! Amazing!
Fun idea, this actually should be something they all should do to test these components out and improve their product.
Thanks! You can quickly see which parts fail which is very interesting. Normally extruders aren't stressed like this, but I think that lessons can be learned from it.
Honestly, I am truly fascinated by the idea. Have e.g. weight classes as well, to determine different characteristics for extruders under 250g/400g/600g etc. Soooo cooool, and actually useful as well!
FREAKING BRILLIANT VIDEO!!!
Thanks Joel!
I just got a Micro Swiss NG 3 days ago. Now i feel i did the right choise.
orbiter, LGX, and a few others I'd like to see done, but that fun to watch. thank you for helping my dad go by better and faster
Yes me too! We had to start with something and if this catches on we might do a 2023 with different extruders ;)
I would love to see a comparison of the lightweight extruders (maybe sub 200g) like the orbiter v2, lgx lite, sherpa mini, etc.
dont froget the sunrise
This video answers every question I had about these extruders. Very nice work. Just ordered my first Micro Swiss NG today!
WOW! Excellent job with this competition! You CLEARLY put a TON of time and work in setting this up, editing, etc. GREAT WORK! I hope it goes crazy viral!!
Wow! What a fun video! The production value is through the roof. Loved the out takes at the end. Can't imagine how much time this must have required.
These sorts of tests is what makes other companies make super extruders with mega capabilities that nobody can afford and never will use. That's great!
Jon, this time you've outdone yourself! Of all original content in the 3D printing sphere, this takes the cake. I love your 'normal' content for it's originality and humour, but this is Olympic Level. Bravo!
Thanks Mike! We've seen your post on Facebook, thanks a lot for sharing!
This is just wonderful! The concept, the effort, the editing - just everything!
Love your content, every video you can see the skill and effort you put in. Great job!
This was fantastic, so much better than a clinical comparison
Micro Swiss should be using this win in their advertising. How amusing the two best got lined up against each other in the opening match.
Superb quality, would be interesting to se the Orbiter and LGX added into the mix
Love this concept, the editing, shots, and the camera angles. Had me laughing and intently watching the whole time! Great BTS after the vid finished!
When a video exceeds all expectations, you get this! Fantastic work guys!
This was the best possible way to produce this video! Great job.
LOVE the over-the-top production and effects. Top Notch! Keep entertaining us while we learn.
One of the greatest and funniest videos I've seen in the last months... AMAZING!!
This was very fun to watch, it sounded like it was some battlebots contest going on. Well done
Fantastic video Jon! A lot of hard work went into this video. Congrats to Micro Swiss and being crowned the winner....for now ;). Next round we want to enter our VXS system and see if we can dethrone the current champ. We just posted a short showing our extruder lifting 35kg of weights and training up for the next vid.
Thanks! That was an impressive video! It would be interesting to do a 2.85mm category as well :D
The most creative extruder comparison I've ever seen! ) Bravo!
i'm researching extruders and the Micro-Swiss NG in particular. I must say, you fellas out did yourselves. This was the coolest video on this type of syuff I have ever seen! Very fun to watch!
Man, this is a mind-blowing video, never, ever expected to be so exciting, not surprised, amazing as usual. can't wait for the next one 👍
the little front loader is awesome! And Congrats Micro Swiss!
WOW this is gold. Honestly this is the best 3D Printing content I have ever seen.
The video production value is fantastic in this one! (Also, super nice tests. I bet this was _a lot_ of work)
Thanks! Yes, it was😅
Your creativity is just amazing, I don't usually comment on any videos but your channel is an exception. Keep it up!
It was just one of the funniest video about 3d printers i've ever seen! Thank you guys!
That was great fun, I bet it was a blast to record everything! Great idea, and executed well. 10 out of 10!
Really good, very entertaining and funny. Love your work.
Thanks Oliver!
This is fantastic mate 😂 I love it!
Man this was super entertaining! Great video! Entertaining as hell but also educational in a sense
This video has no right to be this well produced! It's like I'm watching an episode of Battlebots, but for 3D printing! Amazing!
Loved this , great performance comparison concept!!!
Simply amazing production! Fun and very informative!
10/10 for effort, editing and humour.
Awesome competition! The world needed this! Also awesome getting Duke Nukem to read out the extruder specs!
You are so outlandish and I love it. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite channel's to watch.
This was amazing, hilarious, and epic all at once!
Wow, what a production. This was amazing and educational.
We need more content like this comparing products!!!
This is awesome. Daniel did a great job with his pronunciation
Thanks, he certainly did!
Man, never stop. This is it. You are meant to do this. Congrats !
THAT WAS AWSOME, totally great idea of the match and this way you went about it, I was also super impressed to see how well your extruder did, but when you think about it the others where failing because the gear teeth would fill with grinds and the belts just grabs, not grinds so that becomes a non issue. You did great
Amazing content! the results blew my mind
This was the best video I've seen in a long time. Absolutely brilliant guy's
This is so fun! Thanks for doing this up so well. The front loader carrying away the loser is fantastic.
Incredible video! Production quality is off the charts!!! Wow 👍🏽 way to go
So much fun to watch! well done! :D nice idea! great editing!
How am I just seeing this video?! I love your content, but THIS? This is pure creative perfection
I really don't know what to take away from this, but it was nice and fun to watch!
This was REALLY well done and extremely clever. My hat is off to you!
This was absolutely hilarious and amazing! You continue to stand out with presentation, originality, and exceptional humor. Without a doubt the most proper channel out there! I became a patreon today! Were all the motors running under the same current or did you optimize the current for each extruder or used manufacturer recommendations? What about extruder arm tension? I think if these parameters weren't optimized some extruders could have been left with a disadvantage.
Thank you and thanks for becoming a Patreon supporter! We calibrated the motor current once which I also show in this Twitter thread twitter.com/properprinting/status/1573346058985422851 I think that only the OmniaDrop and my extruder would've benefitted from a higher current since the rest failed due to grip. Regarding the grip, I tensioned them to the max to get the most out of the extruders.
hah I'm not surprised. It's proper printing after all! Thanks for the link that explains it all.
This video was really fun to watch. You did such a good job with everything.
I had way too much fun watching this. Simply amazing.
Amazing production! Very entertaining. Nerds with a great sense of humor. 👍
Oh yeah baby... This is what i am subscribed for. Original and creative content.
Best content ever!!! I am glad you guys did this love project.. It was a major treat to watch
I don't know how you are only at 59.5K subscribers. You make amazing content. Keep up the great work!👍
Thanks for a crazy challenge... Good thinking... Fun and informative... 😁✌️
OMG! This was freaking AWESOME! :D I love the bobcat scraping up the losers :D
Jon, I had missed this video when it came out. Glad I was able to see it now, you are even funnier in person. It was an honor to spend the weekend with you at ERRF.
Amazing concept! Loved it
I love your videos, you know how to entertain :) So, more aggressive gear ratio in the next proper extruder revision?
Thank you! I think it might have a chance if that ratio is improved indeed. It's cool to spot a bottleneck and try to improve on it! I'm not going to add even a bigger motor🤣
just like TV, well done, and kudos to Microswiss!
This was so much fun to watch. Thanks
I got to say: amazing video. I don't care for the results, but I LOVED watching it. Thank you for this great content!
Brilliant Mate. Just so good! Cheers
What a great idea, I am looking forward to the video!
My first thought: 17 minutes and 23 seconds, watching two extruders tug... yeah... NOPE. My second thought, 2:15 in: I'm glad my hand disagreed with my brain.
At 1:23 I just had to pause because I burst out laughing. Amazing.
"MicroSwiss is Beyblading the OmniaDrop" hat mit laughing real hard 😂🤣😂.
This was extremely entertaining. Great job
Love it! Entertaining format and nice shots.
Wow man, great video idea and execution! Really awesome!
Thanks Jonathan!
Most entertaining testing of extruder motors
Supercool idea and very well executed!
Such a legendary video can’t wait for more!
GREAT video! The creativity was really entertaining.
