Deborah Dorbert is a Florida resident who was forced to carry her pregnancy to term and deliver after discovering the fetus was diagnosed with a lethal condition. Florida's abortion ban includes an exception for fatal fetal abnormalities, but her doctors told her they could not act, according to Washington Post reporting. Dorbert and her husband Lee along with their doctor, Dr. David Berger, join Morning Joe to discuss.

  • I live in a Blue state and worked in a hospital department that dealt with exactly this heartbreaking situation. All our patients were couples who wanted their babies very much, only to find out fairly well into the pregnancy that the child had some condition that wouldn't allow it to live (no kidneys, no heart, etc.) . Terminating the pregnancy was a terrible decision to have to make, but all of our families made the choice so that their child wouldn't suffer for even a minute. The procedure was always with the greatest respect for parents and child, and it was ensured that the baby wouldn't feel any pain. Families should be supported in times like this, not forced to endure further agony. We also had a patient die when she developed sepsis. By the time she flew in from a no-abortion state, the fetus had been dead inside her for two weeks, yet state laws wouldn't permit her doctors to do anything, just to keep telling her "wait and see." She was 22 years old. Her husband was 24.

    • Please watch the next abortion, via 3d, 4d, or even 5d ultrasound, and you will see just how violent abortion is! You will be very surprised to watch those children reacting the same exact way you or I would if someone tore off our arms and legs! They scream, they thrash around in pain, they desperately try to get away, and they suddenly grow still as death starts to set in… it’s gruesome! No one deserves to die that way, especially a child! Loosing a child is sooooo difficult and painful! But if you were dying, would you rather be surrounded by those who love you, embraced in warm arms? And not stabbed and torn apart, terrified? 😭 just because you can’t see them reacting (without an ultrasound), and just because you can’t hear them screaming (because their lungs are filled with water, not air, and they are under 7 layers of skin, muscle, and fat, doesn’t mean that abortion is suddenly pain free.

    • Abortion is the number one reason women can not get pregnant, or carry a subsequent pregnancy to term. Both her uterus and cervix can be permanently damaged as the abortionist removes the pieces of the broken, torn legs, arms, crushed head, and jagged/broken rib cage of the child he killed. The children can be watched, via 3d-5d ultrasound, reacting the same exact way you or o would if someone weee tearing us apart/crushing our heads. Now that I know now how cruel religious folks are I understand why when I had the second missed miscarriage and knew better than to wait and see the surgery scheduler was so heartless. Every time I would say D&C she would say "you mean abortion 🤬" She wouldn't schedule it until I said abortion, it was a wanted baby so it hurt to say it like that so I hung up the phone and decided to wait and see again. • I am so angry. I just lost a pregnancy at 6 weeks, but we didn't learn till 8 or 9 weeks in. I had always expected to want to handle a miscarriage "naturally," but once it was a real fetus I was losing, I could not bear the thought of them ending up in a toilet. I got a D&C, despite it being a more "invasive" procedure, so that I could have remains to bury and mourn so we could try again. The idea of being forced to damage my body so badly that I could not even try again -. I feel physically frozen on the outside, and mentally, my body is writhing and trying to claw its way out of my paralyzed flesh. I was able to view my miscarriage as a blessing. It meant we were fertile. It meant we were in a good place to try again. I cannot imagine what it would be to have that comfort (and that time) taken away FOR NO REASON. The thing that makes me angry is that I literally cannot share this story with my parents because it comes from MSNBC. So now I am stuck having to research reporting from somewhere "central" enough that they will even be willing to watch it. I'm not even on the political left, and I don't generally watch MSNBC, but they've decided that I am "indoctrinated" and can't figure out why we wouldn't want to join them in Florida when my husband retires from the military. The fact that I can't even share this with them, as someone who is *actively trying to have a baby,* is just horrifying to me.

It's already been decriminalized in every other Western nation. There have been no laws to regulate ab*rtions since, I believe, 1998. And yet, they're rare here because we have socialized healthcare (which means that even poor people can get birth control).

  • My neighbor went through this a few years ago. At 5 months pregnant she found out her baby didn't have viable lungs. She decided to carry the baby to term. She said afterwards that it was the absolute worst thing to do. She watched her baby die in her arms within a minute of birth. She went into a terrible depression and totally neglected everyone and everything, including her other 3 children. She wasn't forced to birth her baby, it was her decision, but it still left her totally traumatized. To be forced to go through this is just unimaginably cruel, but that's the point for Republicans these days.

  • About 15 years ago I worked as a receptionist in a doctor’s office that only did ultrasounds. On occasion for health reasons a pregnant woman would be advised she should terminated her pregnancy. This is a very difficult thing for a woman to hear especially when she and her partner want to have the baby. We had three religious advisers; a catholic priest, a Jewish rabbi, and a Muslim religious leader on call who would come in to talk to the woman and her partner to explain why terminating a pregnancy in this particular situation would not be considered a sin. The woman could also have her own religious advisers come talk to the doctor about why this was medically necessary. It is heartbreaking enough when your doctor tells you the baby you are carrying will not be able to live once it’s born, but to tell a woman she has no options about it for political reasons is criminal.

For those who don't know, the risk of pregnancy with an IUD is the fetus growing outside of the uterus causing internal bleeding before the woman even knows she's pregnant. We had to have the difficult conversation of possibly terminating the pregnancy and I'm glad it was between only us and our doctor. Luckily it turned out ok and my baby girl turns 2 next month.

If you read Michael Scheur's ( CIA agent who studied UBL) book he explains that UBL did not want to institute a top down command organization, but his goal was to inspire people to commit these awful acts (ie stochastic terrorism). The current leader of the republican party among others, seems to be throwing gasoline and matches around verbally speaking in hopes of sparking something. It seems potentially very dangerous and little to nothing is being said or done about it. They don't seem to have found a floor for their craziness either, watch in the next few years some jerk is gong to talk about stoning women for adultery.
