I love watching her eye movements. Sometimes she watches the strings, sometimes not. I can only imagine what goes on in the mind when you play a piece like this. Incredible... on so many levels!
Playing music is different brain waves than regular thought. Do you even play an instrument in the school band man? LOL
Sustained high complexity mechanical tasks require the mind to completely focus on buffering chunked down segments of the performance, whether consciously or not. The performers actual conscious thoughts are pretty much blacked out in pure flow state bliss. It's a ridiculously fulfilling feeling.
I've never looked at my hands while playing violin
It's actually pretty easy to figure out. Play a rhythm game. Just any of them. Even when you're really bad at it, you'll get to a level of skill in a couple months where you are good enough to push through songs that are hard for you semi-competently. If you get even better, you can figure out how it feels when those "hard" songs become ridiculously easy. That's about the same experience, though obviously pretty different.
You think that if you mess up then you're a failure, many years of violin had me experience this feeling many times.
Can you imagine how a badass was PAGANINI in his time.

I saw this and Ray Chen's 19yo version. Tbh, even not listening side by side, Ray Chen's version sounded much more impressive. They way she played really doesn't seem like it will win a talent show, tbh. Even though it's the same piece, Ray Chen's version sounds completely different.
@@tor13128 Anyone who thinks that her playing is anything less than amazing here is delusional. Give credit where credit's due. Also why copy paste the same reply? We can appreciate the great music and technique without attempting to degrade it by comparing it to others.
@@starlightsall I typed each one new, and only typed 2 times as replies only, if I recall correctly. I didn't insult her. What is impressive is her being able to do this from a vilonist's standpoint. But that is because violinists can't do what she can, so it is impressive. We are talking winning talent shows. You need the sound to be impressive, not just doing what other violinists struggle to do. Let's agree that she is amazing, ray chen's version is a few points above. I'm not ray chen fan, but I feel like the difference is so huge I need to point it out.
@@tor13128 She is Ray Chen's girlfriend. Perhaps Ray Chen has influenced her interpretation. For one thing, both of them play the middle part of this caprice with the original bowing, not with sautille all the way through.

I imagine that only a handful of violinists have ever played this composition with such perfect pitch and technique at tempo. And 19?!? Technical mastery: done. Next up: A lifetime of finding and growing voice - which, in a way, is even harder. It takes a second or two to hear Isthak Perlman or Keith Richards. I'm looking forward to hearing Sumina's unique voice in the future.
Even in the rarified world of virtuoso violinists, her bow technique is extraordinary. She is playing the original bowing used by Paganini when he performed this. If you watch the video closely, you can she she's doing three quick downward strokes followed by 1 upward stroke (3+1). Most professional violinists play 2+2 or 1+1 which is quite a bit less difficult.
I thought it was 3 down, 1 up?
Don’t play violin but I was marveled by her bow technique, such drama and precision was awesome
Also, her movements imply a staccato bow use to articulate on individual strings. Again don’t play but I’d imagine it like trying to hit a bee with pencil tip over and over

@@Person01234 Well, actually Paganini was not from the medieval period, but the violin already existed at that time, it is not the modern violin that we have today with this design that Gasparo idealized, but it already existed a long time ago and the medieval violins were the rebec and the lyre of arm, until a few centuries ago the modern violin was not even called "violin" in many countries such as Portugal, which even in the 19th century was called "rebec".

No, not realyy. Have a good bow and do not interfere with it and it does exactly this kind of bouncing. Main problem is the coordination between left and right hand and s *_really totally relaxed bow grip and right arm_* and leave the rest to the bow. Of course you must practice that beast slowly, relaxed and withot the feeling, that it is dfficult. If you havepracticed your scales and broken chords and bowing execises thoroughly you should be able to have it in a few weeks near to the speed of Sumina Studer. Don't be afraid of the immense number of sharps and flats, the middle part consists almost exclusive of Triads, dominant seventh chords and diminished seventh chords and, hold your breathe - two different chromatic scales, all with permanently changing bass notes.
