Could you add a link for the marker pen you’re using also. And thank you for all your good advices.
Good info!
Brian- waiting for the 9.75 limited slip clutch pack replacement (without removing carrier) :D
Question for u. Totally not related to this video but I have 2019 F-150 3.5L ecoboost. Cold start up has a bad clutter noise from engine. Now check engine light turns on and sluggish when taking off. At highway speeds it stays in low gear. I called dealer for cam phasers warranty but they said it's not out yet. Need help. I love my truck and use it for work. If I don't have my truck than I don't work. If I don't work I can't pay for truck and just a domino effect. 😊
@@Saltysteele hahahahahaha.... ME TOO!!!!!
You'd be hard-pressed to find a better Ford Mechanic on KZhead IMHO who educates in a way that helps you save money and learn something. He's definitely saved me over a grand - easy. Between him and the South Main Auto Guy pretty much everything gets covered. TYVM.
There is another good one called Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics
@@richardk6291 He doesn't only do fords, but I have to agree he is great.
@@richardk6291 I'll check it out. TYVM for the information. Great resources on youtube. I didn't mean to suggest they were the only good guys on youtube - ooops it kind of reads that way. Lots of great people helping others in all sorts of trades.
Totally agree. Hands down.
He is very good
Saved this video two years ago just in case. The other day I felt the slip bump and knew exactly what was the problem. Getting ready to take my 2014 F-150 to the mechanic for repairs. Thanks for posting this.
Who wants to take bets that it hits a million views before the end of the month? This guy is a genius.
@G Money My comment was a bit tongue in cheek..."common sense" hardly grows on trees, hence the "genius"...same thing with the one million views...his videos are extremely popular as evidenced by more than a million views on any number of them that he has made. You're not even a Ford guy and here you are watching them. With all due respect...you are a fish that was just too easy to catch.
Yes he is. Plus he doesn’t mind sharing info. AWSOME.
Just did this on my 2012 F150 and it WORKED!! No more clunk at every stop. Great tutorial!!
I'm an old time master mechanic ( up to about 1985 cars, heavy equip and aircraft) and learn things from you all the time! I love your videos. Thank you!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! I have owned 3 of these trucks and never knew what was causing this issue. I’ve looked all over and never found a solution. Thank you!
Aaaxaa
This process corrected my issue 100% on my 2004 F150 with 215,000 miles… Thanks for the video 😊🎉😊
Its so entertaining and refreshing to see someone work who truly knows their craft! Keep up the awesome content 👍
I started feeling this slip bump a month ago.. Found this awesome video , ordered the ford part from Amazon , installed this morning.. 2011 with 230k , never serviced.. Its like a brand new truck!!! Thanks for sharing..peAce
"It's like a frickin' frosting packet or something." -- Official part description. GREAT VIDEO, again!
Toaster Strudel!
It would be funny if thats what Ford used as the lubricant and no one knew
GM has been issuing this Teflon lube in a pint size paint can for driveshaft since the 1980's. Poisonous but effective. Don't eat it and don't get it anywhere near children or pets. Yes you have to say so in so many words.
@@dannylinc6247 but it looks so good! When i was a kid i used to drink motor oil and look how I turned out lol jk
@@Jacob1986 at GM they said I can have my own can of the stuff if I promised to glove up and "do not lick your fingers"
Holy hell... We've had our 2009 F-150 for around six yeasrs now. It's had this type of noise since we picked it up. This is the greatest news EVER!
Your timing was perfect! I just got out of my truck to check for damage because I thought I got bumped. But this is what it was! Thanks for the fix!!¡
THANK YOU! I was hounding forums for this issue a couple years ago and no one knew what was causing it. I knew it wasn't the trans because it shifted so smoothly. Getting on this fix immediately.
EXCELLENT video, camera work, audio, and safety! I will do this repair soon on my truck! Thanks.
Guy you are the epitome of what instructing, teaching, training is and should be. To properly explain something and why is the best for anyone to learn and retain the information and lessons. If people dont comprehend or understand, they wont learn anything, they'll simply just be repeating what they heard/saw. Example, such as at 5:15 some guys would just say to mark it, but not explain why. The 'why' is what makes people really learn it. Excellent video.
Perfect timing. I went to do this using your other video on the one piece drive shaft. Seen I had a two piece and here is the video of just what I needed. Favorite channel for Ford DYI.
You are a life saver my friend,,it was a 15 to 20 minutes job thanks to your video, it took me longer to get ready than actually doing the repair.. Keep up the good work
Did this today on my 2011 F-150. With only 56,000 miles I was experiencing this and thought I bought a used truck with a major problem. Watched your video and got the tools for the job. Kit on Amazon was $29.49 shipped. I had everything else already. Did this with a jack and two stands. Just be careful. I took my time and followed the steps thoroughly and had nothing but great results. No more bump when taking off! I am pleased with this and if it will be no big deal if I need to do it again in the future. Great video! I used testors paint for reference marks. I made two different colored reference marks on the boot end and ended up needing both to ensure that I was properly lined back up. So happy with the results!
This problem has annoyed me ever since I bought my 2011 f series used at three years old. I read how to fix it online, but this sums it up much better. I’m going to order a kit right now and end the annoyance permanently! Thanks Brian!
You sir, are a Godsend. Just fixed my driveline clunk and am about to service my 10R80 following your other video. Thank you.
You are a great ford tech. I used your 5.4 3v timing chain video on my 07 3v mustang that was 50,000 miles ago. Great videos thanks for the work to make these videos
Once again you've answered a question I had about my truck with a how to video. Much appreciated.
Thanks. I saw your original video a few years ago, but I have a two-piece driveshaft…so I lived with it. I just ordered all the parts since I saw this video.
The answer to my prayers and questions on wtf could be making the slip with my truck has been answered thank you so much bro
THANK YOU I have been trying to figure this out for a while now. Just did this and now my truck drives so smooth.
I did this easy fix last week. Repair kit worked perfect. Thank you for the link, brother. USAF mech retired.
Thank you so much. I wouldn’t have ever gotten this fix without this video. I was ready to replace my driveshaft. Thank you so much.
Great tutorial! Fixed my clunking!! So nice to drive with out that annoying bump.
Excellent video dude... 5 stars. I'm going to give this procedure a massive 2 thumbs up. Did it on my 2014 F150 5.0L 4x4 Lariat SCC and the annoying bump is completely gone. Thanks to your step by step explanations, the job was not difficult at all and took only about 30 minutes.
Love this channel! Overhauling my 97 4x4 and the info here has been priceless!
Been thinking of doing this to my 2012. Thanks for a perfectly timed video again.
So well done! You literally hit every point needed! Thank you
Awesome fix! I spent years trying to figure out what was causing the "bump" in my 2nd Gen Dodge 2500. Thank you.
Thank You ! This worked like a charm on my 2012 F-150 . Got the kit off Amazon and did in my garage with no jacks ...right on the ground ... Took me about 1 hour with basic hand tools. Clunk GONE !! Video really helped! Thanks again!
For the longest time, I thought I had a transmission issue with 1st gear!
Me too...my father in law gave me crap about Ford transmissions. He’s obviously a Chevy man.
That's what I thought until I found this video!
Also me just today I had my raptor 2014 truck jerk lurch to the front almost hit the guy in the stop sign . Now I know it’s a driveshaft problem
My so called Authorized dealers / technicians are clueless and i thought it was the freakin leaf springs all this time!!!! They literally told me its for off road purposes!!! 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
Same! Doing this job tomorrow!
Thank you for the technical support you share. I have 3, F-150s. My 18 trans does not operate properly until warm, it goes crazy if I punch it.
You did the differential fluid while it was up in the air. I did mine just before winter hit, thanks to your instructional video.
Thank you so much for this video. I have a 2009 f150 that has this issue and I always thought it was my transmission. The transmission shop told me there's nothing wrong with my tranny but they didn't know what was causing the problem. I can do this on my driveway this summer. Your videos are the best thing on KZhead. Thanks again 🙏
Driveshaft “busting you in the face” is never a good thing. Another quality video! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much for doing this! I have a 2011 F-150 with the "slip bump". The best video on YT for this, hands down! THANK YOU!
Great video. This will be part of my routine maintenance along with the lead frame upgrade on my 2014.
The lighting job on this video is superb
Awesome video. I bought a 2013 Ford F-350 6.7 liter turbo diesel ,and been having the clunk sound going on for awhile now.. So glad i came across your video.. My spline had a blue coating on it and was very dry. Did not require much clean-up of old grease as there was not much in there. Bought the repair kit and it was the perfect amount. Truck feels great now and i am no longer afraid to pour the coals to it at a stop light.... Thanks again
Thanks to this video I ordered the parts for my 2009 f150 and made the repair today, that spline was bone dry. Easy job and the problem went away. I can't believe I dealt with this problem for the last 6 years and never knew exactly what it was.
Types of mechanics Tech who takes pride in their work. Good job
Update to my previous post 3 weeks ago: THIS WORKED on my 2007 F150! I have been dealing with this annoying Klunk for years! I just followed your steps and I am good to go! Thank you!
Glad this worked. Going to try it in my 06, was getting concerned it might be something else after hearing it's most common on 09-14
This is a great video. I followed it step by step and my 2010 Ford feels like a new truck! Thank you very much.
Thank you for posting video like this. As a ford truck driver(09 f150). This video like this really helps.
Man hooked on your channel, saving big $$$ on ford maintenance! Nice safety Tips, Great content
He released a 2V spark plug repair video right after my F-250s V10 spit a plug. After having a local machine shop "fix" the same issue on my Mustang resulting in another blowout and engine fire under 100 miles later I decided to fix it myself for cheaper. It's been a few years and my driveway fix using the tools, advice, and methods in his video is still holding up, sucker pulls my camper all over 6 months out of the year and drags my brothers boat to the lake and back each season as well. I'm certainly thankful for his contribution to the Ford owners community and have happily shared his videos with fellow owners over the years.
Just had this repair last week… Great video!
First of all THANKYOU!! I just feel smarter every time I watch some of your videos. Plus my friends think I’m smart when I share your videos with them. Lol. Man I wish you were in my area so I could ask you to take a listen to my old 2000 Ford Expedition. Not sure what that sound is or where it’s coming from but I’m gonna give it another good once over again Saturday to see if I can figure it out. Thanks for sharing knowledge! Take care. 🏆🏆🏆
Perfect timing on this video My 2013 F150 just started to make this noise! Thanks😎
I’ve had to do this twice on my ‘07 FX2. Easy job and I don’t jack the rear, I put it on ramps, parking brake on, front wheels chocked and trans in neutral to unload it. Easy to get the shaft off, separate, clean and grease the reassemble making sure to phase the u-joints correctly. For a boot clamp I fuse a heavy zip tie and it works. Repeat every 80,000 miles. When I bought the truck it had the clunk and I got the price down $2,000 because of it. 1 hour later it was fixed. Enjoying your channel. 195,000 miles on the 5.4L and going strong.
I just completed this fix. It worked! It took me two hours but no more bump at stop or take off. Thank you bro!! I love my F150 again. Next thing is exhaust manifolds. Fingers crossed that goes as planned without and broken studs.
Thanks for making this video !! I was about to buy the transmission lead frame because I thought it was a transmission issue.
I gotta say thanks a lot for this video, you pointed out the directions so clearly that it only took me about 2 hours to get the job done. The result was impressive, the driving is so freaking smooth right now!!!! I was pissed off about that bump while taking off or stopping, I drive a f150 2012 fx2 with 140k miles, Thanks a lot again and keep up the good job that you are incredibly doing.
I have the same exact truck with the same exact issue. First time watching this video. Glad to see it fixed the issue for you.
Just found this channel. Very happy I must say
Good video again. My GMC had a similar problem with the slip yoke getting dry and binding making that clunk noise.
I did this fix on my 2006 super duty. Absolutely a necessary fix.
The best video you have done! I have the exact same truck with the exact same problem! I have had two separate local Ford dealers do this service, both did it incorrectly. The first lied about using the white Teflon grease. They used blue grease as we discovered at the second dealer. The second dealer used the Teflon grease, but only on the slip yoke that slides into the transfer case. Not sure if any of them did the mid section yoke, if they did they didn’t mark the splines. I took your old video on my iPad to the second dealer to show em how should be done. I have 3 or 4 Ford dealers in this town and all have incompetent service departments. Thank you for this video! 2014 F150 157 WB 6.2 V8 4X4 12k miles.
Also works great on Tacoma driveshaft binding. Been using this grease (Blue version) on my 2012 for a while and works great. The Motorcraft PTFE grease is great stuff!
I watched this video last week when it was first published and I realized that the problem that the pickup in this video had sounded familiar to the problem that my 2004 F-150 had. I ordered the Ford Motorcraft kit that was linked in the description and attempted this fix myself. What a difference! This solved my driveline bump issue immediately. Thanks to this video, I saved literally hundreds of dollars (because I thought that I might have had a worn ring gear) and it did not take long at all. Everything that FordTechMakuloco said in this video helped me as a novice mechanic to do it myself. Thanks for the great content!
Amazing shop lighting!
Fabulous series of videos. Have used to do coolant flush on the 97 F150, Bullitt and some more., Really liked the Motorcraft coolant crosswalk vids also. Keep this going.
Your videos and guidance are much appreciated!!! Keep them coming!
We have a 95 Bronco with the jerking symptoms exactly as you describe. Of course it has a one-piece driveshaft but the very short wheelbase really exacerbates this issue. Terrific info - Thanks!!
All Broncos have a slip joint in it similar the one in this video
Thank you from a Ford 150 owner with a two piece drive shaft.
I just did the repair on my 2011. Your step by step video was perfect. Hopefully this will solve the problem. The grease that was in there was grey and there wasn’t much of it. Also noticed a couple of minor scrapes in that Teflon coating. Don’t think that I did it as all I did was slide the shaft out and put it on the bench. Seemed to be dented inward so hopefully the new grease will fill them in. I’ve done all the service on the truck so they must have occurred at the factory. May be contributing to some of their issues. Again, great video,
I fixed this on my '07 following your old video. Was driving me crazy for months. Hasn't made a sound since I lubricated it 5 years ago.
NO MORE CLUNK!! So thankful. Great video. Thank you. Watched this video a few times before doing it. 1996 Eddie Bauer Bronco. Tons of work done on it, still had the clunk. Followed the instructions provided in this video. CLUNK BE GONE!!!
Great super detailed tutorial. Can’t wait to fix this on mine!
You are a very good teacher , always have great videos thanks
Thank You! I don't have an issue but the truck has never been touched so I ordered the bits and shall perform this weekend.
Thought my transmission was about to quit. Did this first. It always had a stop start bump. Then recently slight jolts in shifting but not every time and not the same gear either. This helped everything. Feels solid and not sloppy anymore.
My 05 just started having this “THUD” feeling. Feel it stopping and whenI start. Good video.
What a great video. I had a similar 'bump' problem with a '76 E150 van I had purchased new. It had a single driveshaft and about once a year I had to drop it and put some wheel bearing grease on the splines. I can't remember how I knew to do that- no KZhead back then, of course, but I suspect a great mechanic I knew probably clued me.
I have the same issue with my 2016 ecoboost, finally know the cause. Thanks man, great video 👏🏽
Did u fix yours with the kit in this vid? I have a 2016 that does this once in a while, may want to fix it soon.
Every time I see these videos I wished I lived close enough to swing by so you can do this for me
I had this problem on an '89 Volvo 760 Turbo Wagon; it took me a while to figure it out, but once I discovered what was happening, the fix was easy! 😎
And I really appreciate all your videos, you've saved me thousands of dollars.
Once again a great video, thanks so much for making them. TP
Binding, sticking and popping - that was my break dancing move back in the day
it's what my knees do now.
TheFiremonkeyman Them years of kneeling? 😂
That's what my knees do when I walk, bend, or stand still. I just need some Teflon grease.
Thanks for tips! Great vid as usual ☺️
Thank you so very much. Your videos are always very helpful!
Love your channel and I just did this to mine last week on a 2012 F150.
Another fantastic educational video, thank you!
Great video helped me a lot I was struggling because my jack stand won't go high enough to be able to turn the wheels but it got done regardless thanks again
This is the problem that I have with my 12 f150. It looks like and easy fix with a lift. Thanks for showing this video I didn't know if it was in my 4wd, just seeing $$$. Thanks again
This info is as good as gold. Now I can fix mine.
I’ll be keeping an eye out for this problem.
Gotta say, it's becoming a little weird that you and I are coming across the same exact issues at the same time. I always refer to your knowledge, very beneficial.
This is exactly what ive been dealing with for a while. I really hope this works (i think it will). I might even replace U joints since i have a couple bad ones with play.. Thank you for this video!
Another very well explain and informative video. 👍👍👍
You are SO helpful. Thank you!
Great video. I've had this problem for a month. Scrapping my pants thinking it was the transmission. It bumped only twice after the fix. Then no more issue. Wow Thanks.....
Unexpected Kilmer grunts get me all the time 😂
Its almost like the internet can read your mind. I am having this exact problem in my 2010 F-150. Thanks so much for the video.
Great vidéo!!! You are the true Ford Master Technicien
2014 F150 FX4. Just did this - it fixed it. Before it was very noticeable - even the slightest gas from start would act like someone nudged you from the rear. Now its smooth. Hopefully it holds up. The shaft splines looked good - you could see the special coating on the metal. Oh and the receiver section was almost complexly dry. I did not have a 12mm 12 point nor the pliers. Total for the kit and tools was under $50 and from start to end including cleanup and test drive was about an hour. Well worth it!
