"Arrest that security guard!"

2019 ж. 15 Шіл.
1 903 800 Рет қаралды

On November 26, 2018 something happened at Seattle's Miner's Landing between security guard Brian Murphy and a male by the name of William Moore. There were plenty of witnesses, but there was also an usual twist: the witnesses were evenly divided between two contradictory stories.
Today on Real World Police learn what happened, and find out which party is going to jail.

    • Likely Brian Murphy is fairly gung ho and knows when he is greenlighted to go to the next level, but is very aggresive once he does. That doesn't mean he is wrong. Some guards get a rep simply because of where they are at. An area with a lot of bars, drugs, and night life next to the harbor is going to have a lot of action. They probably need a guy like Brain Murphy to deter the fools. Im guessing he could be a bit more diplomatic. If he was as deferential to his contacts as he is to the cops, he might have more cooperation. Then again, he did try to get the guy his food. That shows he was willing to work with the guy and give him the benefit of the doubt. I believe that the pot smoker guy did take a cheap shot at him when he turned away towards the girlfriend. Maybe he could have been more patient and less shovey before that, but really he is not paid to have arguments at the bar. He is paid to have arguments at the curb. And that is where he was trying to go. Databyter

    • I work the private sector and let me tell you - police are almost always immediately on the side of security, and will not spend too much time piecing together camera footage. They know footage eventually expires off the DVRs and by the time the parties in the case contest anything, whatever isn't submitted initially is gone anyway. Most of the time they wanna wrap up the call and then leave.

      @JuliusCaesar888@JuliusCaesar8882 жыл бұрын
    • @@JuliusCaesar888 That makes sense. I’m sure having security and tapes makes police’s job a lot easier and I’m all for police relying on private security (I’ve worked private security myself). However, just from the comments made in this video alone, it seems that this security officer in particular has a history of improper use of force or glossing over things to make them more favorable to him. Could be a complete mischaracterization, but that’s what I gathered from the video. Such a person needs additional accountability.

  • The fact that all these witnesses saw the EXACT SAME event and all came up with different answers is a scary implication for how the justice system relies on the whims of unreliable observations from people more interested in spewing their opinions and feelings instead of the objective truth. Imagine how many cases there are where a person was wrongfully convicted or let go because a witness gave unreliable testimony. It’s a scary thought, but sometimes witness testimony is all the police have.

    • Human recollection and memory combined with deep-seated biases and opinions combine to produce how an individual sees the world. The game we played as children where one whispered to the next child in a line of several children, a seemingly simple sentence ended up totally different as the last child spoke aloud what he or she heard! So it is today. That’s why multiple witnesses are interviewed and the hope is to glean repeating similar aspects. Even multiple witnesses tend to see different aspects.

    • I'm impressed with the conduct of these Seattle PD officers. Private Security is NOT the police. The job of security is to protect. If the guy was sitting on a public sidewalk "on his pipe", and not doing anything threatening, then call the police. Unless, in a very very few cases where a security guard/officer IS commissioned by police, and properly TRAINED to exercise certain police powers, and then only in the course and scope of the immediate post/assignment. Security should have just called the police and saved everyone time and trouble.

The officers want to know what she saw, not what she thought of what she saw. That information is useless to them. What they need to know is what happened, and then it's up to them to evaluate that based on their laws and procedures. What a Canadian school teacher knows about violence might differ from a Washington State definition, etc. So what they need to know is what exactly did this person do. Did he push him? Did the other person punch back? And so on and so forth. She, who should have been an impartial witness, has clearly made up her mind on who is in the wrong, and that kind of renders her statement less useful, since in her mind the security guard is already the bad guy, instead of letting the cops who can fill up with info from all sides decide that.

    • Security is a strange industry in that each state has very different laws on what guards can and can not do. Some states, like NC, you are a civilian in a uniform. No extra authority is given. Then if you go south to SC, you are given almost full authority of that of a deputy, minus the ability to engage in vehicular hot pursuit or transport individuals to the county jail. Then on top of that security guards must abide by company policy. So even if you are in a state that grants real authority to certified guards, the company you work for may still say you shall only observe and report. This makes security unpredictable. You may live in a state where they have no more authority then a citizen, then go to a different state and get thrown on the ground, handcuffed, and taken to some sort of security room to await the police. Theres also different variants of security personnel. Here in NC where I have the most time of being a guard, uniformed contractors fall under the no more authority then a civilian area. But store loss prevention (depending on the store) will take you down, handcuff you if you are non-compliant, and drag you off to the holding area until police arrive. There are so many differences between states that it is hard to determine who is right and who is wrong until you can find the state statutes on guard authority for a specific state. What could be a lawsuit in one state could be completely justified in another.

But that aside, you don't seem to care about the thug security guard bragging about putting on his gloves when he was getting ready to illegally assault a citizen (because he likes to assault people and knows that the dirty cops are gonna back him up), or using pepper spray on another citizen, or that the preponderance of evidence shows that the whole situation was basically caused by the thug just deciding who needs to be kicked out of the establishment based on his personal criteria. You sound like a mindless troll when you post stupid comments berating another person for what you perceive to be a lack of manhood in your pathetic opinion, BTW you ever been pepper sprayed, boy? You ever been struck multiple times after being pepper sprayed? You ever been assaulted and handcuffed while going about your business because some thug security "dude" thought he had more rights than you because he's enabled by by the local pigs? And BTW Logan, I believe the comment about name calling was intended to be a comment about the demeanor of a supposedly "professional" security guard, but that just sort of went right over your head.
