  • I switched from a G14 to this Lenovo and finally found the perfect laptop! The fact that it remains cooler in every situation would already be enough to make it preferable. The screen placed next to it makes the g14 appear washed out. Reflections are more present but less noticeable in person. The fact that it doesn't have Gsync doesn't matter to me (just enable vsynch). The RAM is soldered, I got a 32GB one but in the end it is much faster and more performing than the one mounted on the g14 (4800 vs 6400mhz). The ports are a paradise for those like me who use it mounted on an external display because the cables are well positioned on the back and if I connect a mouse I don't have the cable bothering me on one side since I'm left-handed. In Europe the G14 literally costs 1000 euros more which is ridiculous and even if they cost the same I would prefer the Lenovo. The battery lasts a bit longer on the G14 but one very important thing is that the Lenovo performs much better on battery power than the G14. Last but not least, it is true that it is a little larger (although thinner) than the g14, but the Lenovo charger is definitely more portable so in the end they are on par. Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to give my opinions on the matter! Great review anyway!

  • In my situation, this laptop beats the G14 with no contest. I live in Europe where this laptop, with 32GB of RAM, costs 1800€. The G14 with 7940HS and RTX 4060 costs 2800€ which is just too much for that laptop. Keep in mind that these prices include 25% VAT so it's 1400€ vs 2200€ without it, which is still a no brainer.

Lenovo always has coupons, plus student discount, AMEX offers and some 3rd party cashback. Also got a Legion Pro 5i (delivered last week) i7-13700HX, 4070, 16" WQXGA 240hz IPS panel (RAM and SSD are upgradeable) with 2 years warranty for around $1080 ish (with 40k rewards) for my elder son. • I don't think it's fair to give Lenovo 2 points below G14 for upgradability, it should be on par as its got an extra m.2. The G14 also maxes out at 32Gb RAM with 16Gb soldered. G14 also has slower RAM than Lenovo Also if you're comparing like-for-like, you can't give the G14 max for screen for the 4060 version, as that one doesn't have the mini-LED screen (at least in several popular regions like US)

For m.2, you can easily have a separate SSD for games and files only for the Lenovo, and not clog up your boot drive. You can also transfer your old games and files much more easily this way if you're upgrading

    • @@houssamalucad753 never understood this. Realistically you cant upgrade your ram without sacrificing performance, as youll lose dual channel when "upgrading", honestly you either give me both slots to upgrade like the blade 14, or just solder all of it for a lower price while giving me space to upgrade everything else. Besides by the time 32 gb of ram isnt enough for tasks the rest of your laptop components will be outdated.

Those glossy OLED displays are more fragile and expensive, I just paid £300 for a new display for my Samsung Galaxy book 360, which I had cracked. 1 year warranty is a big no.

  • Hey Josh! I commented a few days ago about getting this beast. Having used it for 24 hours so far and done a few stress tests, I have to say, this thing is a beast! The display alone is absolutely beautiful. 14.5" is a perfect amount of viewing space for my liking. It is light and can fit in every bag I have without trouble. The sound quality isn't actually as bad as some people say! It isn't Bose by any stretch but it's not trash. I would rate everything about this laptop a 8.5/10 - points off for the lack of upgrade on ram mostly and for them not having the some face recognition software as their other lines and I just can't wrap my head around how the speakers cannot be as good as the Yoga 7i that I tested at Best Buy when that laptop is much thinner and smaller...yet the sound quality is out of this world. I love the fast charging capability as I do use this on the go quite a bit and will be taking it to work for various tasks. I am not bothered by the glossy screen one bit but it would be nice to have a matte OLED for those that have issues with the focusing. Lenovo Vantage is an amazing piece of software and very user friendly. I hope this year we see a lot of improvement on uniformity with accessibility to sound and camera options. I don't think there is any excuse to not have the same across the board - truly. The size of it alone should warrant being able to fit a bit more but I suppose that is the way marketing and affordability goes these days. Pay a little less but still get a huge boost in performance. My long running Cinebench test scored a 16536 which I thought was amazing! My desktop scores around that which blows my mind. Overall I highly recommend this to MOST people looking for a laptop that can double as a productivity workhorse or gaming on the go. The fans can get pretty loud under heavy load - so be prepared for that.

I just want the slightly smaller form factor to fit in my bag. How does the RTX 4050 perform as compare to RTX 3060? If the difference isnt significant, i wouldnt mind the trade off. Atleast i can carry the laptop easily in my bag.

  • Doing my own testing on performance mode vs balanced on my Lenovo LOQ15 I see a 20-25% drop in FPS. Big deal because you can only run performance on AC power. On my various machines (custom build desktop) I find synthetic benchmarks incredibly inaccurate. Upgrading CPU for example the synthetic benchmark is unchanged but real FPS changes massively. I would recommend adding real game benchmarks. Fortnite, CP2077 etc

Older G14s were amazing value for money but newer ones start at close to 2000€ which is absolutely overpriced and in the very high end territory. Lenovo is a LOT cheaper so this comparison in Europe is a no brainer: get the lenovo, get similar experience and better screen and save like 500€

  • each point of each category must have a value in the ending conclusion, for example "gaming laptop" you use more the gpu , less power same performance on slim 5 than the g14 . The processor drains more power but for games isnt this an issue bc the better cooling and most games relay on gpu performance. So for the selling point (gaming) this is a double win for slim 5. In addition , the screen is fcking amazing 120hz oled in this price is outstanding , you cant even comparer it to g14 (or something is wrong with your eyes). The keyboard is a classic lenovo keyboard , nice keys nice travel and you getting used it on use per use, but for gaming lets be real , you probably gonna buy a mechanical soon. The point i want to make is that the slim 5 may lose on more things, but wins on things that really matters , stays cool, play games as should, oled panel is an oled panel , 500euro cheaper on Europe, those things are deal breaker in my opinion.

  • Just purchased this machine. I only have two issues. 1. The speakers are laughably bad. Seriously what the heck? Any external speaker will be better. 2. The screen is a little too glossy. It’s not too bad in real world use, but in bright direct sunlight this screen will become a mirror. Neither of these are a big deal and for the price I’m not sure there is a better option. I do wish the speakers were better, I’d pay an extra 100 for that. The keyboard is about average. I’d say similar to current Dell laptops and I like those quite a bit. This is a great purchase imo, it replaced a MacBook I purchased in 2019 that just decided to stop charging and Apple wanted a ludicrous amount of money for them to fix it. I do suggest getting the best warranty you can afford. I work in IT and odds are good something will go wrong within 3 or 4 years. Definitely worth the peace of mind.

Now, I'm going to sell my Legion 5 15.6" to get this Legion 5 Slim 14, as the cooler temps and OLED display have clinched the deal. (G14 is not available in my country, so its not a option, if it were it would be a no contest) I like the size, keyboard/trackpad layout and perfomance of the Slim 5, but i just dont think a OLED display belongs in a laptop. PWM is subjective, but the downsides of OLED arent. I like the display, perfomance, build and ports on the Slim 7i, however i hate the crooked trackpad due to the numpad. The perfect laptop would be a Slim 7 14inch with Ryzen 7840hs, 32GB RAM, RTX 4060/70, 74Wh battery and the Mini-LED display from the Yoga/Slim Pro 9i.
