I've Never Shot A Buck That Pretty | Nevada Pronghorn (EP. 1)

2021 ж. 10 Қаз.

Randy Newberg continues the beginning of his hunting season by switching from chasing mule deer with a bow to chasing pronghorn with a rifle. He didn't know if he would be hunting pronghorn this year, but was able to pick up a landowner permit and will be hunting the public lands of that area.
He shows up one day early to scout the unit and learn the area. His plan is to glass three main springs in the morning before the mirage makes it hard to see. Randy sees plenty of antelope and a buck that he wants to go after.
The following morning they start making their way in from the road while it's still dark, they end up bumping the buck before legal shooting light. Randy hopes they'll be able to get back on him and get a chance to fill his tag on a public land Nevada pronghorn.

  • This video confirms my thoughts on 9/30/21. I was sitting down looking at my Antelope buck hanging before I caped it out. I was thinking I just accomplished the impossible? I got a public land WY Antelope with a bow?! Most fun, most work, most miles, most stalks, most misses, and yes, the most reward I have ever experienced as a hunter. EPIC adventure.

  • One thing I learned in the military is that because so many bases are near quality hunting and fishing, establish residency. Not all, but most states will allow you to maintain your lifetime license even if you move out of state afterwards. In some places like here in Oklahoma that means you won’t have to purchase any OTC tags ever again. Others it’ll mean that applying for your drawn tags you do so as a resident not a non-resident. Yes, this can be gaming the system, and it’s why some states say no. But if it’s good in your state then by all means do it!

  • I appreciate the restraint shown when you couldn't make the ethical shot. Patience grasshopper... A slightly off topic question. I see you are running the BF Goodrich All Terrain TA K02 tires on the Raptor and on your previous truck (Nissan) you ran the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT tires. I know it's not an apples to apples comparison, as the tires are on two different trucks, but what are your thoughts on these two tires? Having put them both thru their paces, do you have an opinion as to a favorite tire for the type of environments you put them thru?

  • We've all missed. That's not a sin. At least you didn't wound it and lose the animal. Personally for that terrain I would not use a 7mm08. I would go with probably a 7mm Magnum. Simply because on that particular shot you would have had that animal. I do love the 7mm08 in most situations. The last time I went pronghorn hunting I took my 270 Browning and hit one out at 450. It's just flatter and faster than that 7mm08. I think the and this is only my personal opinion, so I could be wrong, that the 7mm 08, has a limited effective range of about 300. Where you can push that 270 out to 500 as well as a 7mm Magnum.

These incredible animals can be the most formidable to sneak up on. Just a suggestion, but you might include a short tutorial on the care of the meat, as you know it’s pretty easy to taint if you don’t get all the hair off. It's so smart to give landowners tags and let them sell them. Here landowners can get special licenses for hunting some species on their own land but that isn't enough. So many would like some critters taken but aren't hunters themselves.

I get that; It looked like Randy was/is filling time either with lots of B roll conversation/talk or Randy really likes to be in front of the camera, babbling yes I’d agree. Not your typical “Randy” hunting production. I hope this is productive criticism. Not mean to be mean in any way. Truthful.
