Private Eye Thinks Hes a Cop Pulls Over REAL COP

@Copwatchtv obtained body camera footage of a private security guard accused of impersonating a police officer after he tried to pull over an off duty police captain on the interstate. This video shows how the guard tried to justify unknowingly trying to pull over a New Mexico State Police captain.
State police were called to assist an off duty NMSP captain on November 4 who called to report someone trying to pull him over on I-40. “He turns on all of his lights - blues in the front, reds in the back - just trying to control traffic and act like a cop,” said the NMSP captain. The captain said something felt off.
When responding NMSP officers talked with Ronald Portillo he claimed the captain never identified himself. Portillo then became argumentative over the captain’s authentic badge.
Officers tried to place Portillo into custody after he basically talked himself into getting arrested. Once detained, Portillo had a bizarre explanation for what he was doing. “We go to Central and Eubank and we just run all the way down the hill. I didn’t light him up. I didn’t do anything because that’s against the law to pose as an officer. I’m a "PPO" for the state. I work for this private company and we’re cleaning house here,” Portillo says. It is unclear what he meant when he said he was a PPO. State records show Portillo is merely a private investigator with no arrest or police powers whatsoever. He definitely had no authority to try and pull over a private citizen. To make things even more ridiculous Portillos vehicle didn't even have a license plate displayed most likely to conceal his identity while pulling over other random citizens.
The captain tried to discuss the incident with the guard, but he remained defiant.
Portillo was not arrested on scene but instead was given a misdemeanor citation for impersonating an officer and he was released. Portillo was scheduled to be arraigned on the charge on December 7 but the arresting officer forgot to sign the citation so it was dismissed in court. NMSP said they have refiled the charge with a signed citation. If found guilty, Portillo faces up to a year behind bars and a fine of up to $2,000.

    • I will admit, as former EMS/Fire with personal red and whites(only bring that up since it meant that anytime I was driving, county vehicles, security vehicles, or my own vehicle, I always had access to lights) and security, ONE TIME I did accidently turn on my lights. Actually happened while on a security patrol at a massive site where lights were only used if there was an emergency. Otherwise, they were off at all times. Drove out to one of the security booths to relieve the guard and they called on the radio and said your lights are on. Still have no clue how that happened or how long I was driving with them on. Didn't really matter, these roads were private roads for authorized persons only but was still kinda embarrassing.

    • @@Maxiaktthe thing with these kind of security guards that want to be police and can’t is that are either not very smart or they just give off “this guy is a weirdo vibes” I worked with one guy, who honestly wasn’t a bad guy, he was a combat vet and all he wanted to do was become a cop, but just was born a few fries short of a full happy meal. Kept getting denied by different departments, our bosses were retired LEO and so were some of our co workers and they would all say when he wasn’t in the room that he definitely wasn’t fit to be a cop. Genuinely felt bad for that guy cuz I’ve worked with some people that all they want to do is be cops and they just make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, this guy wasn’t that just wasn’t born with enough common sense and smarts to make it as a cop. Usually the guys that worry you though get filtered out because you have to spend time when going through the process of applying to law enforcement of being around them for hours, so all it takes is someone going “this guy creeps me out we’re denying him” another guy I worked with changed his last name to something cringey like black jet, so it could be on his work badge and name tag. Always had a super high and tight haircut, high speed gear to the max. He legit carried like 4 handcuffs at a time, like a dozen magazines too. Multiple mace, just super weird. Also had an all blacked out crown Vic as his personal car, with the spotlights and the grille guard on it. So it looked the same as a cop car, he never said he had red and blues, but I’m sure he did. Dude took his job too seriously, and all he wanted to do was become a real cop. Thankfully this guy had been applying to different departments for years and years and kept getting denied, and he just couldn’t figure out why lol.

Get training and education in things that is or could be useful and helpful that can make you an asset than buying and wasting money on useless gear, such as an outer vest, to look like a clown. I always hear the “I have back pain” BS. Well, adding weight to your shoulders won’t help either. I wear under plates. I can tell you factually, that gives me back pain more than my belt. I even heard that same BS with people wearing leg drops too. Just reposition your holster. We’re security. • Portillo was not arrested on scene but instead was given a misdemeanor citation for impersonating an officer and he was released. Portillo was scheduled to be arraigned on the charge on December 7 but the arresting officer forgot to sign the citation so it was dismissed in court. NMSP said they have refiled the charge with a signed citation. If found guilty, Portillo faces up to a year behind bars and a fine of up to $2,000., not sure if he was found guilty, but im sure he on the police radar now.
