Nikon P1000 - Maximum Zoom Range Test (93 KM / 57 Miles)

2019 ж. 6 Там.
4 525 893 Рет қаралды

There is no doubt that the #Nikon #P1000 has one of the greatest Zoom lens on the market but even with a #MegaZoom lens capable of zooming across small cities there is a limit to the quality of the image and video returned.
Lets start having a look at quality over quantity, the quality of the image and video when compared to the amount of distance covered. This week we check out the max zoom range on the camera, while the Moon and various planets prove the camera has some serious range lets take a look at things a little closer to home.
Subject: Mt Wellington to Great Barrier Island (Mount Hobson)
Height: 135M to 627M
Distance: Aprox 93KM / 57 Miles (Yes actually, work it out yourself if you don’t believe me :P )
Using the elevation of both Mountains this mega zoom takes us from peak to peak. While the upper ridge line can be made out in the video there is clear lack of detail showing that at this distance we start to hit the maximum distance/quality ratio with the P1000.
While we can still make out the subject due to its size the quality of the image and video diminishes sharply. Partially because of the amount of light reaching the camera at this distance and also the amount crap in the atmosphere.
If you enjoyed this video, please make sure to leave a like and subscribe to the channel.

  • Important: The air is not a perfectly transparent medium. When there is pollution, like in most big cities, it is worse. Even in a day with small humidity expect a drift in color. Also the air is moving. Do not blame only the camera when the target is at 93 km.

Earth's atmosphere which contains a lot of pollution nowadays is densest near the land and gets less dense as we go "out" of the earth's crust. So when you look horizontally at the distance, it is indeed different than looking upwards per se to clarity. 3. The moon reflects more light than that mountain, so it's easier to see the details and thus makes it less blurred. Just some scientific observations!

  • Base on this, you can see subtle black since there is a fog so can try again at another location that the air is dry, so no moisture to block your view, so can do again at maxiam view, so no block, since there is subtle black, then if there is no fog, that means you can see higher details, so the camera is equal to or little higher than your highest viewing, so not beyond that. So, you can see far away without camera that is 93 KM but it is small but you can see it. Would be nice to extend the view that is way beyond 93 KM, so beyond the smallest or small of details from biggest to small, and beyond that. So, to double or fraction the extend of human horizon which is 93 KM / 57 miles in diameter. The ratio of 627 M height that is meter to 93 KM, so the human horizon is 148.3253588516746, so almost 150 times. So, an object that is 1 inches, and 150 times later that is equal 150 inches which convert to 12.5 feet. Well, I test, so can see 150 times. So, using that zoom to see the moon to make moon big, that is 150 times since we can see the moon that is bigger than size of subtle black that we see without zoom, so if it is clear as no moisture, then it is bit smaller or equal to moon that we see at smallest. So, the furthest we can see is 150 times, so that means in term of math base on distance to diameter of an object must match in parallel to expand per second. So, if too far, and expand is too slow, so can't see if expand time is too low, if there is more expand time, then you can see, so take time to get there if the zoom can go further. The point base on math to justify the reality that make sense. It has been a while and it would be nice there is much higher zoom than this one at least further than human can see at smallest object, so fraction or double humans' average horizontal line.

    • Distance = 93 km, View Height = 135 meters So, accounting for standard atmospheric refraction (7/6 * 6371 km) Refracted Horizon = 44.8 km Refracted Drop = 581.83 meters Refracted Hidden = 156.29 meters Refracted Horizon Dip = 0.345 Degrees, (0.0060 Radians) Since the Great Barrier Island elevation is of 627 meters and the results give only 156 meters hidden, we can conclude that we are seeing only 471 meters of the target. Where did you even get those "669 meters hidden" from?
