  • I finally found a reliable way to alternate between the two rotation directions of the dancer in the Kinetic Depth Effect. Focus only on the trajectory of the foot she is standing on. Imagine her knee is swaying left and right. When the knee is about to reach it's left-most position, look at the image as a whole. You should see her rotating clockwise (from above). A less reliable method is closing your eyes and imagining the dancer spinning in either direction and opening your eyes when her legs overlap. This is obviously hard to do because your are blocking the only sensory input provided with this illusion by closing your eyes. You rely on your sense of time.

  • Flashed face distortion effect mainly happens as the images on two eyes being different and while focusing on the cross , due the blind spot in eyes , our brain can't reform the images from two eyes and thus they look deformed. I don't remember where I read it but it was in a biology book when I studied in school.

  • Some effects happen because we have two eyes. One eye is enough for somewhat 2D visual information, but you need two eyes to see two different angles that are combined to form one composite 3D image. So the expectation for the "Flashed Face Distortion Effect" would be that it has something to do with going "cross-eyed" or similar to a minor degree, or that's how I would explain it. The "Magic Eye" illusions are a great example of this type of stuff (and I can never get them to work because I process visual information extremely flat)
