Here I explain why I started learning Russian and what I used to learn it. It definitely isn't the most common reason why people start learning languages.
I made a few mistakes here and even misspoke at times, I haven't really practiced Russian in a while either. For example I said "they couldn't speak Russian", but I meant "English". And things like saying "другое" instead of "по-другому". I am not that bothered though, mistakes are normal.

I just started studying Russian a week ago, and I'm still learning about resources. I've already tried and discarded Duolingo, because I could tell I wasn't going to learn that way. I am definitely going to listen to that podcast, and Harry Potter in Russian is an excellent idea! I've found the books on eBay, and I will order them eventually. Thanks so much, you have given me confidence!
Hey, glad I could help motivate you. I actually have a video coming out about duolingo. I tried using it at first too and it almost made me quit learning Russian. I found it too frustrating. Good luck learning it!
@@languageswithtom2634 I'll be looking for the video! I really wonder how many people succeed with the apps, because it sure does cost a lot of money. And I'm learning very quickly that it isn't necessary to spend a lot of money to learn Russian. Or any language for that matter. Thanks again!
@@karamiddleton2920 I don't really understand how it is possible to learn language with such app, especially if you learn some really different language. I guess you can use it as practice and support, but not as main source. I suggest to search some lessons on KZhead from Russian natives, there are plenty. Also I suggest to check Hi, Native! app. There you can ask questions about language from community, and natives of your target language will help you. And you can always try to find someone from Russia who study English and practice with them. I personally admire your courage, because I can't even imagine how hard Russian is for English speakers. I guess same as Chinese for us. And if you already have some questions about Russian, don't hesitate to ask me. I'll gladly help. I’ve been studying Russian for about 9 months and still can’t say even the simplest of things so I think you are quite gifted 🙃
I don't think I'm gifted to be honest. I just found the right motivation and method. I learned German for 5 years in school and basically learned nothing. Before I started learning languages like I do now I would have probably said that I was terrible with languages.

@@languageswithtom2634 Same thing with English here in Russia, we learn it at least nine years in school and most people can't say a thing in English. Anyway I admire that you choose to learn Russian, it's pretty hard, especially if you native English speaker, all those cases and word modifications.

Talk english and practice with people can speak english well. It's the only way. Удачи тебе
Ничего подобного. Я матушку замотивировал учить Английский, только когда она вышла на пенсию. Уже год постоянно говорим и практикуемся, хотя тоже постоянно были фразы в духе: "я уже ничего не запоминаю", а теперь оказывается, что всё не так просто. Если не выходит, то либо нужно больше практики, либо менять подход. Но изучение языка наш базовый навык, да, мы не можем делать это как в детстве "в фоновом режиме", но все нужные навыки у мозга всё равно есть.
этот парень из видео, он ведь советует самый лучший способ изучать языки. Чтение. Я так же учил английский, читал каждый день самые простые тексты. Часто это были детские сказки поначалу. Незнакомые слова записывал и заучивал. В итоге я уже через год знал инглиш очень на хорошем уровне. Довольно быстро перешел к сложным текстам. Читал книги которые уже были прочитаны на русском мной (чтобы понимать сюжет, а то поначалу часто теряешь нить повествования). Затем стало еще легче и я уже в удовольствие читал, целыми циклами, например "The Wheel of Time" был полностью прочитан на английском, к тому времени уже успешно зачитывался, на новом для себя языке, до состояния когда не осознаешь что вокруг тебя происходит.

it is wonderful, hi from Turkey. Did you learn it to speak like this just in 9 months or 1,5 years ? and Did you study from any grammer books or lesson books for learning russian ?
Hi, I felt comfortable speaking around 8 or 9 months in. I generally don't like reading grammar books. I prefer to read and listen to things and only research grammar when I don't understand something. For that I normally look things up online or ask friends
Ошибок грамматических у вас очень мало. Они не мешают нам вас понимать. Вы свободно говорите по-русски. Акцент есть, но он минимальный: проблема англичан и американцев [л']. Вместо слов "большой", "больше" произнОсите "болшой","болше". Ну, а в целом, вы боЛЬшой молодец! 😉
