    • Our beloved son, age 32, with autism and learning disabilities,who lives with us, of course, started to eat different things when he was about 25. We were on holiday in France, in a restaurant, and he ate three courses. The first two were based on different parts of the rabbit - of course we told him it was like chicken, including les gésiers, followed by a local honey cake with real vanilla ice cream. We couldn't believe it: at home we were still serving him food on a divided plate, lest something 'wet' touch something 'dry'! He amazed us, and has gone on to eat Greek food in Greece, Egyptian food in Egypt, and New York food in New York. I know it can be amazingly hard in the early years, but take my word that it often gets easier over time. He's the light of our lives, and surprises us almost every day. Just stick at it, and accept all the help you can get. Please excuse me while I order theatre tickets for possibly the eighth time of watching The Lion King on stage in London. It makes him so happy that I can discount the fact that I know every single word and gesture. The one thing I learned was patient love, even if it was 'fake it till you make it ' at times.

I'm not saying don't give them any options but maybe make one type of sandwich and let them decide which parts of it they want to keep/take away and how they want it cut. Or, better yet, make the same type of food you'd make for dinner so that their lunch isn't almost completely nutritionally defunct. (But that's a completely different conversation).

    • @@AlyDuncan Not denying that that she makes healthier food for other meals. Just pointing out that typical lunches (and even American breakfasts) made for kids in the U.S. are usually not particularly healthy or balanced (especially compared with other countries). I was unaware of any history with these kids but I don't know if I would use that as an excuse for continuing poor eating habits. In any case, I wasn't speaking of only her. In general, I think there's something to be said for maintaining the philosophy I mentioned... even if it does sound kind of tone-deaf in relation to this specific case.

  • the fact that she prepped medication for all the kids, while talking about it in the most logical way made me cry. I've been struggling so much lately to accept that. But it's true... Medication for mental health is something you take to improve your quality of life and overall happiness. It really feels like these kids can communicate with/through her if they feel they want to lower/increase their meds etc.

    • I know! I wish my parents had this attitude when i was a kid... The funny thing is my dad's been on meds since before i was born and my mom would always be bugging him to stay up to date with his psychiatrist. But, God forbid the child having panic attacks in kindergarten get any mental healthcare. Now I try to be as open as appropriate about my experience with medication to destigmatize it. It has helped me connect with people with similar experiences and reminds me I'm not alone.

      @zmviolaplayer71@zmviolaplayer712 жыл бұрын
    • I disagree. If a child is raised in a loving, engaged family, he/she should not need meds. The problem lies with teachers/schools. Too many kids and if they're not paying attention or acting out, they immediately have ADHD or some other made up mental issue. My friend's grandkids were prescribed drugs when they were in preschool. Now, they're 15 and 16. Neither of them go to school anymore....why? "Because they don't like it." They stay home all day and play video games or watch tic-toc. My husband comes from a family of 16 kids. Their mother left when the youngest was 2. They all turned out great (well, a few high schoolers smoked a little pot). Mostly blue collar. Again, Big Parm has got us by the huevos. Sneeze? Go to a doctor. Dry eyes? Again, a doctor will give you a prescription to cure it. Just watch out for the side effects, like death.

    • @@MrTopcat3333 I genuinely hope you aren't saying ADHD is not real. Do not bring your conspiracy theories into actual disabilities. Teachers and schools cannot diagnose conditions/disabilities, etc. They can only make recommendations to the parents to have the child checked out. And honestly, it could be over diagnosed, but thats no reason to claim that it doesn't exist and is just a ploy by medication manufacturers. Discrediting a whole plethora of neurodivergent people by saying its made up is incredibly ableist and closeminded. Please reconsider your wording if this was not your intention.

      @tilted.@tilted.2 жыл бұрын
    • Medication in many cases is simply a bandaid. Theres ways to manage the difficulties in a natural manner and its less damaging and more effective long term Relying on meds is no way to live

      @mkb6353@mkb6353 Жыл бұрын
    • @@MrTopcat3333 I get what you're saying, her case is just a little different. People and doctors nowadays looove to medicate/overmedicate, but she has children with medical reasons to take them. She is very hands-on with raising and makes sure to get family time with them. Sometimes, the problem isn't about nurture, but nature. Sometimes love can trump biology, other times, it can't. If your body can't regulate/produce certains hormones, it's up to medicine to do that, and it takes a very involved parent to realize that.

  • Loved the "as long as he's eating it" comment! I'm autistic and have a sensory processing disorder with ocd to spice things up. For me food texture, smell and presentation has always been a HUGE problem. When I was a kid (undiagnosed) my mom was often judged by other parents because I ate mayo/ketchup/mustard sandwiches all the time and refused to eat a certain way or certain things . She didn't give a crap and continued doing what was best for me because "as long as he's eating and growing, it's okay". Thanks to that mindset I always felt safe to speak my mind about things I disliked and have a healthy relationship with food.

    • As a kid I was just given what my parents would want to eat (I’d like to add that one of them thought mustard would be a good replacement for gravy in the same quantity. So bad taste to begin with) or what everyone else eats (so for school it would be like those processed looking meat slices in perfect circles and white bread, boring and tasteless) and I have a really unhealthy relationship with food even now. I had to have my fiancé come and stand with me while I cooked because I couldn’t face touching the tap because my mother touched it after eating food that I’m actually afraid of. She still doesn’t consider it a real problem and will sit next to me or touch me or leave out food that I’ve been known to be physically sick over being around before. I’ll skip meals on a bad day if she’s snacking on something I can’t face for example. I was underweight for years because I just straight up didn’t enjoy food or know I could enjoy food. Every so often my mum will still make a comment of “weird” or something when I make myself food because now I eat what I enjoy. But I like to look at the silver lining, when I initially moved out 4 years ago, I realised I was finally in control of my own menu and I’ve learnt how to cook all sorts. It’s honestly become a hobby of mine to cook and try new recipes and adapt them. So that’s something I guess. But yeah letting children learn what foods they like and don’t like is significantly more important than people think. I’m in the best shape of my life because it turns out I just don’t like frozen, processed, tasteless food and I’m a complete nerd about proper seasoning and sauces honestly. (Other than pizza which I live for) I’m a nightmare when I don’t get to home cook something fresh and healthy several times a week. It’s good that I have that now but I won’t lie, I do resent that I had to learn all that in my adult life. And the fact that I have all this food phobia which can make going to other peoples houses, being in a kitchen, using a fridge, going to a supermarket so much more anxiety inducing than they need to be. I was always told my dad knew how to cook. (The reason for the mustard situation i mentioned above) turns out he can’t. Man didn’t even salt and pepper his steaks without declaring he was some culinary genius. He really did the bare minimum in preparing food and I was told this is as good as it gets and then they wondered why i didn’t wanna eat. Parents, let your children be their own person. They’re not you or even an extension of you. They’re a separate human entirely, just like any other person you’d meet. Not letting them be that, and not just with food, is damaging.

Your children are so incredibly blessed to have a mother who not only cares but makes sure that her children are getting the help that they need. Life is hard enough so it’s beautiful to see that they have a strong spitfire momma in their corner fighting for them. 💚

  • Adoption is such a beautiful thing. I was adopted when I was 5. About 9 years ago I found out that I was pregnant, I was still in college, there was this teacher who asked if I was going to keep my baby or do adoption if I chose adoption to keep them in mind. I planned on keeping the baby, until I found out that she and her husband were unable to have kids of their own. Something in my heart just told me that the baby wasn’t really mine and that the baby was meant to be a gift for someone. My parents were foster parents at the time and I asked them that if I chose adoption if I could chose who adopted my baby, when they said yes, I asked the teacher if her and her husband would like to adopt my baby. I at the time wasn’t ready for a child financially and the father was an alcoholic and abusive. Im still involved with my biological child.

  • "I don't think you have to be worried about winning" 🥰🥰 I love that he phrased it that way. I know this vid is a few months old so I have no idea if you'll even see this comment, but in case you do...Someone will always have something negative to say BUT the fact of the matter is that you win every single day. I am new to your channel (I've been binge watching all your vids, including the very awesome 2 hour vlog), but from what I have seen so far you are an absolutely amazing mom...in fact, in many ways you remind me of my own mom. Is everything always perfect? No, but that's life, you do the absolute best you can every single day (if you're anything like me, self doubt just crept in and told you days you FELT like you were inadequate...HOWEVER I would be willing to bet a LOT that in reality even on those days you were much more successful than you gave yourself credit for, and I would be willing to bet that your children went to bed with full tummies and all their needs met). You have 12 beautiful, happy, healthy children, you make them 3 nutritious meals a day, I see in the backgrounds of your videos bowls full of fruit for them, you make them snacks, you buy them the food they need to feel secure and safe, you don't judge them, you accept them, you love them, I saw one video where someone had taken a juice pouch from your carefully planned and counted lunch stash...and your immediate reaction was not to get mad or frustrated or upset, your immediate reaction was to smile and say "that's ok!" and I could see that to you it really WAS ok...the world wasn't going to end, and your child wasn't going to go without...you don't have to be worried about winning, because you win so many times in so many ways every single day. You are absolutely amazing and I love your videos...somehow they make me feel a little more secure. I don't have a good relationship with family anymore...but this is a reminder of how I used to think family was. Thanks for your videos and thank for reading this if you did 🥰

  • I love your affirmations. My little girl has had a rough year or so, I started doing something like this with her back then to help her believe in herself she started saying no when told she was beautiful. I started doing affirmations with her and slow she's starting to believe she's loved she's beautiful and brave and very stong she has started in the last few months to say them back to me. The power of words really effect us all xxx

  • Loved your video ❤ little tip: feed your egg shells back to your chickens they’ll love it and it’s good for them. Some people go out and buy oyster shells to help strengthen the shell of the egg when you can literally just feedback the eggshells, and it does the exact same thing. Chickens will start eating the eggs if they are missing certain nutrients in their diet. Sometimes I just toss a whole days eggs over the fence to them just so they don’t become deficient. They love it! Also that floor bagel could have gone to the chickens. A lot of the food scraps can go to the chickens. 😊

  • i love watching your videos! my boyfriend is the oldest of 9 and I’m an only child, we had completely different childhoods. To see you prepare a meal for 12 in under an hour really puts into perspective how much work his parents have and how their mornings look like. When I’m visiting they always apologize for the chaos and prepare so much in advance, so I never really get to see their daily life. Thank you for all that you do!

  • You know I have always been against giving kids medication for mental health reasons only because that was the way I was raised that there are other ways like thearapy and stuff that can help. But sometimes you need both….I didn’t realize this until my brothers doctor had us really think about the idea of giving him medication for his ADHD because he was struggling in school and with his behavior. When he started it and we saw the changes…I literally cried. I cried because he was struggling this whole time. What people don’t always understand is that sometimes people need help to be able to work with others around them and do simple tasks that other wise would have resulted in a breakdown. I remember my brother crying when he was handed a test and would just breakdown because he was trying to make sure he got everything done before time was up while also trying to organize everything in his brain. He was 13 years old. No kid at 13 is going to purposely cry in front of the class. He was struggling for years and needed more than just therapy. I’m so happy my parents took a leap of faith and were able to see the change in my brother and how much he needed a little medication to help his quality of life get better as well as his perception on life. Thank you for showing this. It is very vulnerable. Block out the negative comments because you have to remember in your heart you are doing what you believe is best for your children, just as all parents do. Thanks for sharing!
