  • I awoke to find news of Queen Elizabeths' declining health and sat silently by reading every update and feeling immense sadness that Her Majesty's life was coming to an end. A very good friend, who also held great respect for The Queen, called and we followed the news and crying together when news came that Her Majesty had passed away. Elizabeth came to the throne the year I was born and she was, utterly and completely, a person of great presence - by way of her compassion and uncommonly good common sense. Even a small kid in a small midwest American town knew and understood her to be unquestionably the essence of grace, intelligence and kindness. To quote Paddington Bear, " thank you, Ma'am, for everything. "

    • @@anenglishmanplusamerican7107 If we must be officious about it - when a British monarch dies all of their styles and titles die with them in order to be immediately inherited by the successor. So it is officially 'Elizabeth II' and nothing else now. Look at her gravestone if you need confirmation - alongside that of her husband 'Philip'.

  • A year on and it still seems so unreal that she is no longer with us. She was the one constant in an ever changing and chaotic world, she was always there steadfast in her duty and service to others. I don't think the history books, which will undoubtedly venerate her reign, will even come close to capturing how much Queen Elizabeth meant to the world. May you rest in eternal peace Elizabeth...and as expressed by other commenters - thank you Ma'am...for everything.

  • We Catholics in my native Republic of Ireland usually have the tradition of a “Month’s Mind” Mass a Month after someone has died, which happened myself in Summer 2018 after my Dad died, so I travelled back home to Rural Ireland from here in Manchester U.K. to attend this Mass - I’ve heard from my home Parish in Ireland that after Her Majesty had passed away, they recited a decade of the Rosary to mark her passing, a very old Irish Catholic tradition - and special prayers were said for Her Majesty and her Family during the “Month’s Mind” on the First Friday Mass - it’s almost as if it was yesterday that a year has passed since Her Majesty’s passing into her eternal reward, as time has passed so quickly and one of our other Irish traditions is “never speaking ill of the dead”

  • Since Elizabeth II died, there has been much publicity, not so much thought about how exactly she mattered, and why the British monarchy is helpful in general. Britain’s monarchy shouldn’t be seen as real-life soap opera, nor should it be used merely to fill space in the media. The achievement of the British monarchy should become clear in comparison with the histories of other countries. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, and which opposes illegal dictatorship. If there are many reasons England, Wales, and Scotland have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy to unify all the people is an important reason. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The King's Peace". Of course King Charles III's first marriage was a tragic mistake; Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the unity the monarchy gives to the UK & the world. Island nations can suffer civil war - the sea around it didn't protect the U.S.A. against civil war about slavery in the 1860s. The UK could have suffered civil war over political reform in the 19th century, or over world war, loss of empire, economic failure, or race in the 20th century. There will always be political violence and problems in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy and the stability it brings Britain and the commonwealth. Canada & Australia both abolished slavery without civil war; both were helpful to defeating the aggressors in the two world wars. By stabilizing Britain & the commonwealth, the British monarchy promotes peace in the world. Since the 1700s, billions of people have lived under the British crown without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives. God save King Charles III, and his successors.

For many years not everyone agreed that we all should be equal even though that was the motive behind the constitution. The Royal Family have served many years since providing service towards Social economic environments, but having a job will hopefully change depression years.
