Shamima Begum cannot return to UK says Supreme Court - BBC News
The UK Supreme Court has ruled that Shamima Begum, who ran away from Britain when she was 15 to join the Islamic State group in Syria, should not be allowed to return, to challenge the removal of her British citizenship.
The court ruled unanimously that her rights were not breached when she was refused permission to return.
Shamima Begum, who is now 21, is living in a camp in northern Syria. She had hoped to return to the UK to challenge the Home Secretary’s decision to strip her of her British citizenship.
She ran away from east London with two other schoolgirls in 2015 and travelled to Syria to join IS.
Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by home affairs correspondent Daniel Sandford.

A 15 year old cannot marry, they cannot join the military, they cannot leave school full time to work, they can't drive, smoke or purchase knives or alcohol. In effect a 15 yo can make very few decisions for themselves, legally. These prohibitions exist for a reason. So why are so many perfectly fine with the fact that this child was allowed by MI5 to travel to a warzone and be married off?
@Lisa Smith "every 15 year old knows" Do they though? Do you have any actual evidence that such is the case? Maybe Begum is intellectually disabled then if every 15 yo must know if such is wrong. She got corrupted but she didn't listen
Her story was used as a weapon for a political ideology. She was a fifteen year old girl and met an older man online who pursued her to go to another country, where she got married to a man 7 years older than her just a few days after entering Syria. She was groomed. She only was there to be a bride to an adult, had a child at a very young age, and her child died in a refuge camp. When she decided she wanted to escape Syria, her story was publicised across newspapers and over-politicised. And people wondering why she didn't seem regretful in interviews, you gotta remember that if she were to act regretful and disrespect ISIS, then not be allowed into the UK, ISIS would've probably killed her. It was probably too risky of a situation. This is me just seeing a child who was groomed online by a much older man and then made a decision which followed her for the rest of her life. She shouldn't be used to push your political agendas.
If she is a traitor to Britain does that make Tony Blair a hero.
As both a Muslim and a Bangladeshi,I appreciate it also. Bangladesh should also take similar steps.
They did
In Bangladesh they would strait up just killed her, and if they didn't some one else would, and all so her dad is gonna get beaten up.
Already have. If she entered Bangladesh, she would immediately face the death penalty.
" Too little too late benji" Ross voice in friends
In Canada she would be allowed to return and would receive a million dollars and a medal
Good decision ... She has the guts to go there ..then handle the consequences..
This is not a left-wing vs right-wing issue, nor is it a British-born vs immigrants issue, this is the argument for vs against the values that all decent people hold dear.
Decent by whose standards though? Your sentiment is positive but it neglects the fact that all cultures are not equal, as global reality consistently proves each and every day.
hooray , the court has finally grown some balls
well done Britain, she should not be allowed back, she made her bed now let her LIVE in it!
As a muslim, good decision dont let her back

Put it this way if isis was still going she would have not been begging for her return
Put it this way, we’ve all made daft stupid decisions & done & said cringe worthy things when we were 15. Should she really be bastardised for the rest of her life for one silly immature action made at that age?
@@johnmoore9862 I don't think many people would call siding with terrorists a "silly immature action"
@@johnmoore9862 "immature action".. Your joking? She joined a terriost group she didn't steal a Mars bar. At 15 your still playing games, out with your mates or even studying or even getting your first job. I've never once heard anyone jokingly say they researched a terriost group, know what they done and do and went and join them so it doesn't fall under saying it out of cringe. She openly says she doesn't regret joining isis. She was an enforcer who would recruit other young women to join the jihadist group. She said she had been unfazed by seeing the head of a beheaded man and so on. And for the record she was born on the same year as me, not me or any of my mates or anyone of my year group would even say they'd join a terriost group out of "cringe" or banter. so this is all on her. At least do a lil bit of research for crying out loud instead of being a defending snowflake She shouldn't be allowed back in just cause now all of a sudden she wants health care for her kids even under a watchful eye it can be a security risk. If you want her back so bad go n live with her
my question is was it an informed choice she made or was she duped or conned into going in the first place? there is a big difference.
@@fjp9 none would matter in this case. She's said she did her own research before joining and has said she has no regrets, said the Manchester bombings were justified, she was an enforcer to get young girls into the group and so on She only wanted back into the UK because she wanted pity that her two kids died and her third one was on death door aswell and isis provided no proper health care. Do you openly join or be convinced into joining in on a murder or bank robbery and expect all to be forgiven cause you say your sorry? Even if on TV you go around and say "stealing money is fun, seeing people die doesn't affect me" etc? No.

No democracy in UK
@@jeck9460 Correct, this country is a constitutional monarchy. Even if we were a democracy most people vote in their own interest and it is in nobodys interest to allow her back and then pay for her benefits. She contributes nothing.

How exactly is this chick a danger to the public though? I mean she'd be arrested anyway and locked up
@@marioluigi9599 because if she can come back without any real consequence others will think they can do the same and have no repercussions. Imagine if someone killed another person, had no remorse and never got life in jail and that was the standard from now on in, murder is no longer a crime. Lots of people will start killing. Same here, even if she never directly killed people (dont know for sure) she supported a group who unjustly killed and tortured. So she's an accomplice. And why should I even be forced to pay for her?
Supreme Court: Shamima Begone
... And stay out!
She deserves this decision .. finally a correct decision is made
I’m 16 and I know not to associate with the like of ISIS. She made her decision she can deal with the consequences.
Buddy she was groomed the same way KKK grooms vulnerable children, literally the same thing; ones Christianity and the other is Islam. But I totally agree she shouldn't be allowed back into the country cuz she's a huge threat plus it'd be sending a wrong message to the country. And I also believe it's partially her parents fault for not monitoring what their children was viewing.
The media and western governments were at 1 point calling isis "freedom fighters"
@@dr.royalty even if she was groomed she understood and decided so she gets what she deserves
@@afriendlycadian9857 i agree with her not coming back, but that's not how grooming works. won't harm you to do a little research lol
@@afriendlycadian9857 I'm pretty when someone's being groomed A they wouldn't know because they'd probably think that person really cares about them & values them and B they'd think it's "for the greater good" I'm just guessing idk how terrorist groups like ISIS/KKK operate but she did marry someone If i remember correctly, so she could have been running on emotions.
Looks like some real sense is returning to the UK Government
She most of really thought that if she dressed like that, the Brits will change their mind.😂😂
@d the best what you on about?😂
Finally! The UK grew some balls.
Is not about growing balls, it is about the law, and therefore a democratic State of law says everybody should have the right of a fair trial, i don't know which provision is stablished on you Bill of rights (constitution), so that's why there was a the doubt if she should be allowed to come back to have it, but in fact, once the citizenship has been removed from a person for this matter, there isn't much to do. Depending on if this could be appealed or not, depending on the sentence. Since she was then a minor and under the law a minor has no legal liability. So it is complex. But at the moment, doesn't look good for her.
