Shamima Begum cannot return to UK says Supreme Court - BBC News

The UK Supreme Court has ruled that Shamima Begum, who ran away from Britain when she was 15 to join the Islamic State group in Syria, should not be allowed to return, to challenge the removal of her British citizenship.
The court ruled unanimously that her rights were not breached when she was refused permission to return.
Shamima Begum, who is now 21, is living in a camp in northern Syria. She had hoped to return to the UK to challenge the Home Secretary’s decision to strip her of her British citizenship.
She ran away from east London with two other schoolgirls in 2015 and travelled to Syria to join IS.
Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by home affairs correspondent Daniel Sandford.

Put her in jail, make her work in jail, whatever, but citizenship is not your power. Probably only Queen should make such decision, as formally all UK citizens are her subject and in her power should be banish unloyal subject

Well … she deserves the tent camp she’s living in …yet she’s still allowed to wear a sun hat and jeans ??? the fact that she’s walking around not fully covered shows she’s got “power” or someone in a higher place in there !!! • A 15 year old cannot marry, they cannot join the military, they cannot leave school full time to work, they can't drive, smoke or purchase knives or alcohol. In effect a 15 yo can make very few decisions for themselves, legally. These prohibitions exist for a reason. So why are so many perfectly fine with the fact that this child was allowed by MI5 to travel to a warzone and be married off?

      @rustledjammies8769@rustledjammies87693 жыл бұрын
    • @Lisa Smith "every 15 year old knows" Do they though? Do you have any actual evidence that such is the case? Maybe Begum is intellectually disabled then if every 15 yo must know if such is wrong. If such is the case then as a dependent adult she should be prioritised for repatriation so a court can decide her future and a major public enquiry launched as to why an intellectually disabled child was allowed to travel to a warzone. Nice grave you've dug for yourself there!

I don't think every Muslim thinks in the same way they all. have different ideas just like us and 99% of them probably don't have any relation to this stuff. Just not all Muslims demanded to have a separate state and many of them stayed back in India. It's not the people that think like this and conduct extremist activities they are leaders, political parties, and organizations. Hope you understand what I was trying to say. • Her story was used as a weapon for a political ideology. She was a fifteen year old girl and met an older man online who pursued her to go to another country, where she got married to a man 7 years older than her just a few days after entering Syria. She was groomed. She only was there to be a bride to an adult, had a child at a very young age, and her child died in a refuge camp. When she decided she wanted to escape Syria, her story was publicised across newspapers and over-politicised. And people wondering why she didn't seem regretful in interviews, you gotta remember that if she were to act regretful and disrespect ISIS, then not be allowed into the UK, ISIS would've probably killed her. It was probably too risky of a situation. This is me just seeing a child who was groomed online by a much older man and then made a decision which followed her for the rest of her life. She shouldn't be used to push your political agendas.

I've never once heard anyone jokingly say they researched a terriost group, know what they done and do and went and join them so it doesn't fall under saying it out of cringe. She openly says she doesn't regret joining isis. She was an enforcer who would recruit other young women to join the jihadist group. She said she had been unfazed by seeing the head of a beheaded man and so on. And for the record she was born on the same year as me, not me or any of my mates or anyone of my year group would even say they'd join a terriost group out of "cringe" or banter. so this is all on her. At least do a lil bit of research for crying out loud instead of being a defending snowflake She shouldn't be allowed back in just cause now all of a sudden she wants health care for her kids even under a watchful eye it can be a security risk. Depending on if this could be appealed or not, depending on the sentence. Since she was then a minor and under the law a minor has no legal liability. So it is complex.
