Wow! I used to sew...but who knew you could cut up a sweater (without ruining it?!) Makes me want to go by a new sewing machine. I don't think I'd do something like that right away. She is very good, and very talented! That was amazing.
We should be teaching kids how to repurpose clothing like this as a way to reduce the fast-fashion industry's impact on the environment. So creative and such a cute new design!
And not only for the environmental impact, but the degenerate trendy impact it's having on society.
If these sewer's set up shop with what clothing cut ups to bring in??? I'd cut & it unravel. Next best thing is to find a sewer.. Creative ingenious. And beautifully tallently made unique wearable ARTISTRY. Kudo's to all these ones.
Remember, there was a time when everything was hand sewn.
@@carrierichardson6619 to be honest I think thrifting has also become popular because you get access to cheaper fabrics. Sometimes I’ll pass shirts with nice lace patterns and I can use them to decorate a pair of jeans

What a GORGEOUS upcycle!! Can't wait to go thrift store shopping for sweaters!! Thank you for sharing your gift🌻
Could I just recommend purchasing only pure wool or cashmere, even at thrift stores or flea markets, because these don't contaminate as a synthetic or blend of different material. Pure wool is capable of being cleaned only with sun, fresh air and a breeze. This has been confirmed in the literature of the Vedas (from reliable sources). Pure silk also does not need water or any detergent or any kind of laundry even dry cleaning. It's very resistant to being polluted. Hope you have fun days of creativity. Thanks 🌷

This was a great video for me. I used a sweater I had, some bias tape I had already made that matched my sweater and I added cuffs that I pirated from an old corduroy shirt that I got at a thrift store which gave it a great pop of color. I had some vintage buttons that I also used. I love the results and plan to do this again with another sweater I have that I don't like the style that much, but it would be great for this. This was really fun!!!!! The instructions were so clear and easy to follow.

DIY Edigna: That’s a nice job you did in rescuing that sweater. When I first saw you cut it, all I could imagine was the sweater starting to unravel before you could get the work done; The bias tape was sure good idea to encapsulate the stitches before that could happen. You are the only person I’ve ever seen turn a corner with bias tape like that without mitering; what a nice, clean, flat corner you made in a place that should’ve turned out bulky. I think I’ll watch that little segment over and over to see how exactly you did it. Before seeing this segment, it would never have occurred to me to do that, but now I can see an application for that and they put in the time to learn that skill. That looks like a nice comfy little sweater set for puttering around the house on a cool day that you’ve ended up with. Thank you very kindly for demonstrating one way to rescue a very nice quality warm sweater that a person might otherwise not get more use from.
Excellent upcycling & your stitchery is amazing! Keep posting these great tutorials.
It is not as easy as it looks. Obviously, you are very skillful and experienced. I would have to measure at each step of the way, pin together everything, and sew very slowly and carefully easing the pieces under the foot. The result would not be as perfect as as yours. I love your redesigned sweater but the project is beyond my ability. Thank you for the entertaining video.
Chou!
Me too, but maybe I will give a try when I am a good mood but in the simple look, without pockets and scarfs. And of course I will draw a pattern on the paper first, like amateurs do 😊😊.
I guess you could save yourself some trauma by buying the bias binding rather than all that cutting, sewing and ironing to make it yourself!
I don't think it looks easy!!!!

Repurposed clothing can go for a lot of money on Etsy for people who don't want to learn this, but want unique clothes that save old things from the landfill too!
From the way she cuts the sweater, I can tell she is a professional dressmaker. Very creative way of upcycling the sweater.
Yes, those are scissors of a dressmaker.
Siew Peng I ... can tell she’s very comfortable with her sewing machine. That said, the devil is in the details. She leaves nothing unfinished. From the way she pulls her piping, the button hooks, and imho, one HUGE detail that only professionals do... she irons her seams! 💜
She did a wonderful job. The sweater looks beautiful.

There are a lot of negative comments here, mostly by people who must be heavily into consumerism, and/or not interested in recycling and reusing. With imagination and thoughtfulness you have created an unique garment. Well done you!!!
Not even in regard to comments here, there are so many aspects of doing things better for the environment than household recycling etc. Even some well meaning people wouldn't stop to think that acrylic/nylon clothing too torn, stained etc that donation shops won't take them, is going to sit in a landfill for hundreds of years.
I skip to the end to see the results but it’d be great if you show end result in the beginning like a before and after. This is great recycling and creative. Sewers will try it. I may try a variation version of it. Very inspiring!
For everyone saying "omg I could never do this, she's too talented/skilled" remember: EVERYONE starts at the beginning! She probably messed up so many things when she first started sewing. I know I did. The key is to keep trying! Eventually YOU will be that person that others admire 💗

@Heathen yes! I think some people may be gifted to learn things more quickly, but anyone who is truly "talented" at anything has worked hard to get there. I probably sound like an old lady, but kids these days see all these amazing diy videos that produce perfect items in 20 seconds or less! I think it really messes with their perception that making things takes time, patience, and effort.

This is beautiful. I have made several sweater remakes for my 90 year old mommy. I used sweaters and also a few sweat shirts. (little cute old ladies get cold) and also added a pocket on one side. My mom is in heaven now but I have many photos of her. Thank you for sharing this lovely tutorial!!!
Welcome to our little channel for children
That’s so sweet. My Mommy went to Heaven in July 2009. I had just spoken to her an hour before I got the call that she was gone. So sudden. It was so traumatizing that I really went hysterical, and that’s not at all like me. She was my person. We did so many things together and had so many laughs. I wish we had taken more pics. I was blessed to have her until I was 49. I am so excited to see her again one day in Heaven. I miss her every day and think of funny and/or wise things she said. Take care. Big hugs!
My Mom was a very talented seamstress, too. I still have her 1945 Singer sewing machine in a gorgeous walnut cabinet. It still works, too. It’s the only machine I know how to sew on. I was given a newer Singer, but I have never learned to use it.

You made that look so easy but I know there was some serious skill involved in creating that. Excellent job, it looked wonderful... I struggle to sew a straight line.. :)
❤️❤️❤️
May I share a trick on how to achieve a straight line stitching: focus your eyes on either on the narrow or wide edge of the presser foot using the as a guide (depending on the task you want to accomplish). This is what my grandma taught me when I was nine years old. Since I didn't want to wear skirts, I learned to cut and sew my very first pair of custom-made shorts at that age.

This would be such a great way to redesign that cashmere pullover you found in the perfect colour but the wrong size at the thrift shop. For sure, nobody else would have the same one.
I get most of my clothes at thrift stores, and sometimes I wish I could magically make something really cute into my size lol.

I believe that one of life's greatest gifts is to repurpose things. I love it!
I could have done this back in the day. She is very skilled but the garment is a combination of doable techniques. I am 65 and started sewing at age 4. My mother taught me, then I learned by constantly trying new things because I loved it! Sewing is like anything else - practice makes perfect! If you love it, keep at it! Don’t ever look at something and think you can’t! Do not despise the day of small beginnings. The mighty oak was once an acorn!
Nice! I love to sew too. Now I could see myself shopping a thrift store or flea market for those pure wool or cashmere sweaters that have a hole or a rip and remaking it. I WOULD NEVER USE POLYESTER OR ANY SYNTHETIC FABRIC. But because pure wool and cashmere doesn't contaminate and always remains so, it's a safe material. Cotton needs laundering, but pure wool only needs air & sunshine. Same with pure silk, no laundering needed. Have a beautiful time in your sewing. 🌺🌸🏵️🌸🌺
Thank you! I needed to read this so much!!!
