DIY Garden Room - Full Build in Under 15 minutes + Project Cost

Also, would anyone like plans?
If enough people ask for them, I may create more detailed garden room plans to follow and build your own.
In this video watch as I build my own DIY garden room from start to finish in under 15 minutes. This covers everything from laying the concrete base, building the walls and roof, all the way to finishing of the cladding.
This entire project took me roughly 7 weeks and was full of jobs I have never done before. Due to this, I honestly believe that building a garden room is an achievable goal for any decent DIY’er, as long as you are prepared to do the research and put in the work.
90% of this garden room was built on my own and there were very few jobs where I really needed any help. In fact, I personally believe I could have done 100% without any assistance if I needed to.
I really hope you enjoy the build, and I would love to hear what you think in the comments below.

Let's get a design plan, size and cost....❤
I would love to see
Plans would be amazing!
@@RestoringNumberFour I am considering putting some together. However, to do it right would take quite a bit of work. So I would probably have to charge a small fee for the plans. Im just not sure if there is enough demand
@@thediyfix I was actually looking on ebay for some plans for somethung similar, I wouldnt mind paying a asmall fee for plans / instructions.
I built one a year ago now and I'm telling you guys it's one of the best things I've done , sometimes men just need to have a beer , listen to some music or just quiet time by them selves. And other times have friends and family round,, mine has already given me great memories.. Just pick up the shovel and do it...
100% agreed 👍🏻
I'm yearning for a cave to call my own, your comment has inspired me.
Hi couldn’t see if you included a warm roof 🤔
I put a log burner in mine, use it all year round,
Well done, made it look easy!
Smashed it bro. You've inspired me to break out the shovel.
Do it mate, you wont regret it. Good luck 👍

I did the same in the same period! Same knowledge, same approach, similar size! Fantastic job!
Thats Awesome Davide. Can I ask what you use your garden room for?
@@thediyfix Sure! We recently moved and I needed a place to mess with woodworking. So I built a nice little workshop. www.youtube.com/@dfwoodworks
Fantastic job!
Thank you very much Andy

Awesome stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic job. well done
Thanks James, glay you liked it
No problem@@thediyfix . Can i ask a quick question. I'm about to do a 14ft by 14ft garden office and i was wondering if you can settle an issue i've been having. i was wanting to do a cement base but then the cost of it seemed way too much so i saw a ton of videos on youtube where the do the formwork and then use compacted stone ( 3/4 shale i think or aggregate) as a shed base. Can you tell me if that is a terrible idea ? do you see any issues with using that method instead of just a concrete base? any advice would be awesome.
@@jamesmozzy I wouldnt like to advise on that type of base. The truth is I honestly dont know if that would be ok. What I will say is my base cost £383.18. This included ballast, cement, hardcore, hiring a mixer, and buying timber to create the formwork. I mixed it myself and this was far cheaper than having the concrete delivered.
Very smart bro more than enough to be very proud of yourself ~ Carpenter
Thanks mate
great work
Thank you
Amazing job you have done here, mate. You have inspired me to do the same.
Go for it mate. One of the best things I ve done in ages. Using it as a gym and loving it
What an excellent build and video's. This is exactly what I would like to build, hopefully this year, gym. Would love some plans.

Awesome thank you mate. Yeah i'll be there, see you in May 👍
One of my customers has a garden room.. its prob about 3 or 4 times the size of this but its incredible.. pool table, bar, proper loo, entertainment area
Sounds awesome
Class 👏👏, would love to see the plans if possible

@@thediyfix I want one now and make it a studio to film in, instead of my garage and my car stuck outside lol

Quality. 👏
Thanks Alan, glad you liked it
Would also be nice to have a video for door preparation and install
Yeah its a shame mate i wish I got it on video
Good video 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks mate
That's a really nice build. I'm looking at various options myself. Also tempted to use a shipping container for the structure and clad it on the outside in wood.
A shipping container would be interestng
Business round my way has used a shipping container for a rental bike business and clad the outside in wood. Looks nice. Worth thinking about.
you are a legend
Thanks Tommy, thats very kind
Great job. Bit of hard work saved you thousands . Just shows that you shouldn’t be afraid to have a go yourself (with a bit of research)
Very true
Great job. Looks fantastic. Have you done a video to show what you did with the interior decor
Yes I have there are about 19 videos in total going over each part of the build
Nice video. Good job
Thanks!
Wow nice great job ...
Thank you
superb video. I thought that was really reasonable.
Glad you liked it
I like the doors. I was thinking sliding door, but now I'm sold on french
Yeah I think I prefer French doors
Just finished my DIY garden room too, such a great escape spot! 🍃 #backyardoasis
Congrats mate
Wow, that's awesome! Thanks for the videos, they will be a huge help for my garden office project 😊 I'd love to check out the plans if you have any.
Good luck! Click the link in the description to get the materials list, and learn more about plans
Looks really good! Only part I'm iffy on is the electrical work.
Yeah you definitely need to hire a qualified electrician for this.
Nice 👍
Cheers mate
great video brother. I’m thinking of building a garden pod (less than 15 square meters floor space and less than 2.5 Mts high) under PD. Do I have to pay for a certificate of lawful development or can I just crack on ?
Great video. I am a professional painter and decorator and used osmo products many times. UV clear won't last too long. It needs topping up every other year especially on South facing side.
Thanks for the tips Ric, the back is south facing so I suspect this will fade fastest
Great vid no nonsense really helpful with the shopping list too going to use so thanks, what was the size of your building footprint and what was the finished roof height?
Thanks Steve, glad you liked it. The footprint is around 4m x 2.8m and finished height is 2490mm, so just below the max height for permitted development. Did you download the materials breakdown? thediyfix.com/garden-room-material-prices/ Im also around halfway through creating plans.
Fantastic job, awesome video. Have you experianced condensation on the inside of the glass at all ?
A little bit when its been cold. I am using it for a gym so I did expect there would be some. In hindsight I could have added an extractor fan, but leaving the window on vent has worked fine. I also have a dehumidifier in the house if I really needed to use it (I havent yet)
Loved that, building one myself which actually looks very similar to yours. Got a feeling mines taken a lot longer than yours though 😂
Glad you liked it Richard and good luck with your own build 👍
@@thediyfix my only worry was after looking at your costings. Over a grand for the electrical work was not something I expected for my build. How many sockets lights ect did you have put in?
Love it! You have given me inspiration to do my own! By the way are all four walls the same height? How do you get the slight drop on the roof to for rainfall?
I have a video for the wall construction on the channel. It explains how I did it. Also I will be dropping full detailed plans at the end of the month. You can get notified by signing up here: thediyfix.com/garden-room-materials-download/
Would love to see plans! Looks like a great job mate. How much mot did you need to put under the concrete? And how think was the concrete as well?
A tonne of mot and the concrete was 100mm
That was brilliant and what a finished result, should be proud mate. Can I ask what are the internal dimensions?
Thanks Rick, Internal dimensions are 2.4m x 3.8m (roughly)
Really good video, thanks for sharing. Btw, is that a BT exchange next door? 😂
Yes it is! Ugly building but at least the gardn room partially hides it now :)
Super❤
Thanks
Brill project.
Thanks John, glad you liked it
Without a pitch how you get on with water roll off? Update my mistake you said later there was a ouch - great job!!!
Thanks Paul
Would love to have some detailed plans
Hi mate if you download the materials list at the following link you will be directed to a page where you can buy plans thediyfix.com/garden-room-materials-download
Brilliant job... was just wondering did you not need to bolt the base farme to the concrete base?
Yeah I did mate. Check out the floor video I go into more detail about how I did it
Одлично построенное здание, всё правильно и красиво. 👍👍👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video
Great video, im going to start building my own in January to use as a personal training studio. Do you feel you can get enough internal height for a gym rack to fit inside, think the gym racks are around 210-220cm. I know the external height can not be over 2.5m without planning and various other factors.
Good luck with the build. My room is roughly 2100mm at the back and 2200mm at the front. I have a multi gym that’s around 2050mm and that fits fine. 2200mm won’t fit and 2100 will be tight.
If you can dig down below existing ground level you have a chance. If your roof span is small you can use 4x2 to maximise roof height. Check roofing span tables for CLS timber before you start - it will calculate loading and timber size. My lowest internal height is 2122mm with plasterboard and flooring.
Love this great work. We are looking to start a similar project. Did you ever share the plans, what size is the footprint of this build?
Hi Paul, Im working on plans and they will be available shortly. You can be updated by downloading the materials breakdown and siging up for my email list here: thediyfix.com/garden-room-materials-download/ Anyone on this list will be notified the moment plans go live
@@thediyfix signed up and registered. Great video. Thank you. Roughly, what size was the footprint of this build?
@@paul_crippsthe finished dimensions are roughly 4100mm x 2800mm.
Absolutely amazing! I've watched loads of these over the last few weeks and this is the best by far - you even cram loads of great info in even though its a timelapse - so will need to watch again and write some things down.....are you going to do the plans and materials by any chance?
Thanks so much for the compliments Sarah. If you do want more detail there are 18 videos on my channel that go onto much more. If you go to the end of this video there is a link to the entire playlist. Regarding materials and plans I may create some but it’s a lot of work if I want them to be good. However, if enough people ask then I will definitely get them made
@@thediyfix I was going to say - I was looking at these planters (with wooden slats - really cool design) and they were selling the plans on etsy how to build them - was only a few quid - but if eventually enough people bought them itd defo be worth your while! Anyway - just started going through your playlist - will spend my Sunday evening watching them all....probably wont get round to doing it until the Spring - but I need to get a storage unit done as well in the next couple of weeks before Winter sets in......so will try and copy your techniques - but a lot less elaborate (its just storage!)
Similar building to mine but I added barrier before exterior cladding.
There is a vapour barrier over the OSB under the cladding if thats what you mean
