A tilting lid of that size is a bad Idea. It will radiat hear at you while you're lifting the crucible. Better to have a lift and pivot system that will rotate it away and still have the hot part pointing to the ground....still a good vid, but just something to consider
Eh when I do any sort of aluminum casting I tend to be as quick as possible and wear an insulated apron so this doesn't really bug me so much but if your just wearing some welding gloves for sure do this
Very cool. Do make sure you secure the insulating ceramic fiber. It's like breathing asbestos - micro fibers will fly out of the forge. I had mine coated with 5 layers of high temp cement and there is a spray that locks these... Wonderful videos. Stay safe!
