    • It is really sad that almost every animated childrens/family shows don't have this much invest to their musics. It is the soundtrack that creates the extra emotion and atmosphere. When I was very young when I watched Moomins, soundtrack was one of the things I quickly payed a lot attention. It was something... different that I've heard before.

  • It is only now, decades later, do I realize how much this music and this show did for me, not only in the sense how humane and gentle it was, but also how it subconsiously educated me in Japanese culture. I’m a Finn, Moomins are an integral part of our childhood, like Dr. Seuss is for Americans. But this show and this music integrated the Moomins, a Northern European and a Japanese sense of beauty, atmosphere and storytelling into one. And in doing so, it bacame something richer and more beautiful, and a piece of art all of it’s own. And I’m so grateful I got such a beautiful intro into Japanese music and esthetics years and years before anime became a thing in western mainstream. It made my childhood that much richer.

  • 17:35 - 20:33 is my absolute favorite of all moomin music. Reminds me of moominhouse on a dark winter night with snowflakes falling from the sky and Groke making her way through the forest. Chills go down my spine right when those creepy xylophone chords start and that beautiful melody is just perfect in its simplicity.

  • Even when I was a little kid (yeah, born in 1990), I always considered Moomins as something completely different than any other animation that was airing on my local TV. Starting from animation quality, through music ending on completely different atmosphere than usual "child cartoons". And yes, I was afraid of Groke/Buka whatever it's called in other counties :D PS. 君は南へ is not "Kun Ha Minami He". 君 reads as "kun" when it's used for name/politeness suffix (for example Moomin-kun). As separate word it reads as "kimi" and it means "you". は when it's used as particle reads as "wa" not "ha". Same goes to へ - yeah, it's "he", but it reads as "e" when it's used as particle. So the correct romaji title should be *Kimi wa minami e* Muumin Tani Fuyu 2 (ムーミン谷・冬) -> "・" in this case means a separator for different arrangement (冬/fuyu means winter, so I assume, there are 3 more versions of this track). 谷/tani means valley.

    • And if you watch the original japanese intro and see the translated lyrics you'll see that is quite different from the dubbed intro and has music which is heard on the episodes , this is why the dubbed intro doesn't sound like the music on the episodes and the lyrics say "even those who are tough enough must cry their heart out and they'll find that their sadness quickly disappears"👏
