Here's how I made the Mandalorian helmet from the new Star Wars TV show the Mandalorian. This helmet features a long range night vision IR camera that allows the user to see over 500 feet in total darkness using the built in heads up display. The helmet is made using aluminum as well as some 3d printed parts.

What's really cool is the lens that shows the footprints and broken branches aren't actually thermal. It's a different technology that uses AI to highlight recent changes and movements and is something equipped to some military drones.

@@lapaba1236 So I'm not an expert on how it works, but it's hyperspectral imaging. The idea is that it uses a wider range of the electromagnetic spectrum to see more information overlayed on our limited vision. So for the example of the mandolorian's tracking visor, when they were walking or running, odds are they displaced and moved dirt out of the way. And in a place such as we see in the episode, odds are the footsteps would have different materials and would react to some form of light differently. The broken branches also cloud up in the episode, likely an attention to detail if it's looking for the smell of it.

There are already headsets that improve your hearing and cut out loud sounds (gunshots mainly), but it might make the helmet look bulky/weird

6:19 a good tip if you ever want to remake it PVA foam is what most cosplayers use that reinforced with PVC and covered in either metallic paint or lightly sanded foil will give it a good solid look and the "antenna" most Mandalorian helmets have is actually a display screen so that could help with the IR camera placement as well

Mandalorians canonically have stuff like that just mounted on the sides of their helmets. In episode two he mounted a flashlight on the right side of his helmet.
The fetts had theres mounted on a pole on the side of the helmet that went over the one eye like a scope. I think im not the lore guy.
@@liquidsleepgames3661 Yes, Jango and Boba's helmet had a side mounted range finder that a lot of people mistook for some kind of antennae (for a radio or something) since we never saw Boba use it, and Jango only used it once or twice. But also, if you wanna get REALLY technical; Jango and Boba aren't Mando; they're copycats who adopted the Fett name, presumably to increase their bounty hunter reps. There's a detailed theory about the dents and scratches in Boba's armor pointing to it being made of Durasteel (fantasy alloy from the Star Wars universe), and not actual Beskar. (for shits and giggles; Stormtrooper 'plastic' looking armor is made of Plasteel, also a made up alloy in the Star Wars universe)

I just assumed he could repurpose what the thing was by putting the lenses in it wire wires down the arm of it make the helm a little bit bigger and stuff parts around the shell of the helmet making it easier to wear and still make a cool helm
Jamie M They're not Mando according to Disney canon. According to Legends, however, Jango was adopted into the True Mandalorians by Jaster Mereel, which were wiped out by the Jedi. He'll always be a Mando in my eyes.

Mandalorians typically have a scouter attachment for their helmets which have the long-range and augmented displays built into them, rather than it all being contained in the helmet itself. You could have made it easier on yourself and had a more authentic mando look if you did that.

I rewatched the magnification and he has his rifle up every time he gets the magnified view. I believe the scope on the rifle is linked to the visor and sending data for the magnification. He sees it in his helmet display, but needs to point his rifle at what he wants to enlarge. --- also. Awesome video and I happen to have the exact night vision scope you used.

Also, Boba Fett's antenna isn't one, it's a range finder with a screen, in other words a HUD on a stick to put it away when he doesn't need it.

Hey Jay, this is awesome. Can I make a suggestion though? How about you 3D print the entire mask, spray paint it with metallic chrome, sand it, and repeat that process 3 or 4 more times. It'll make it look a lot more clean. You can also use Immersion goggles (Occulus Rift goggles, or similar), to house the field of view from your glasses AND the scope, and extend the cables from the AR Glasses to a control panel in a metallic arm bracer like Mando has. That way you can control the

2:09 in some of the books, Fett had a ground penetrating hyperspecyral radar thing in his buy'ce. Might be something like that. Also, you should totally try to make a booster jet pack. I'm talking ten feet of jump here. :p

111 222 At the time that Richard Dizney is referring to, Jango Fett was a mandalorian, which was later retconned when Disney de canonized all of the Star Wars legends. Yes, Boba was a clone, but Jango was a leading Mandalorian warrior, after the time of pacifism for there people ended
Now that is a first!stuff that actually functions.great stuff.i myself built robots and artificial limbs down the way and recently a three feet long preying mantis with functional foreclaws.but I've always had similar stuff like the night vision before but to use this in a movie prop is awesome.keep up on the good work man!

Hearing would be doable, just attach some microphones to the inside of the helmet and have the audio be played back to you louder, and the pair of sticks would most likely not be doable at home.
You should make the wrist flamethrower and the grappling hook too

Hey, Can you maybe elaborate on how you did the HUD? It seems like you "remade" the way, that the Vuzix do it too. I really want to make my own HUD Helmet thingy, but I don't have the money to get the Vuzix. The fuzziness adds to the Star Wars aesthetic. I honestly thought you added that in post until you said it was a hardware failure, because it looks quite similar to what you see whenever you get to see from the POV of anyone using binoculars in Star Wars.

I have a tip for you! You can use wifi to create a map similar to the one in the show. Wifi and Bluetooth use a zigbee/Z wave protocol. It radiates a signal that reflects off things in the environment. And you can overlay a map in the visual spectrum over the data. Should look the same w post processing.

The helmet material in the show is unbreakable.
Not true. You can break/melt it, it just requires an absurd amount of heat+time or force.

honestly that is pretty rad. with a little more metal working skills or conceding to a more easily worked material, im thinking about making a fiberglass suit, might turn out more "show ready" but no joke this is cool. next throw in some sound amplifiers and a motion detector around back.
