    • I think magazines should start mentioning torque/weight as reference more than weight/HP. Because HP has nothing to do with weight, all the work is done by torque

    • @@ponygt6629 Sorry, but it does not work that way. Go back and brush up on your Physics. Its about instantaneous HP to weight ratio. At that instant that you are looking at the two, how much power is being put down, and how much weight. The greater the power to weight, the better acceleration. So, for example, from a launch, the power is lower, because the RPMs are lower, but what sounds more impressive is the torque number, but it doesn't matter, power is still down, and it takes some time for the power and acceleration to come full swing. That's provided the traction is there. The higher the mph, the easier it is to get full traction. The word Torque in laymans terms and how it is commonly used, what the common man is actually referring to, is how much power you have at low RPMs. HP includes torque in its structure and RPMs. The equation HP=torque*RPM/5252, so as you can see HP is torque with RPMs factored in. So when someone says torque, what they are really talking about, since they are trying to brag using the torque numbers... they are talking about HP at low RPMs... OR RATHER, when you are in 6th gear in a manual cruising at 70mph and you punch it, does the car move or just sit there? The higher "torque" car will move, the lower "torque" car will sit there. Why, power has not come in, since RPMs multiplied by torque is HP, and higher RPMs means higher HP, provided the torque does not drop off at high RPMS... Another way to look at it... The Mustang has always had high torque, but until the coyote engine, which is the 2010 V8 engine, the torque was up high, but the HP was very low. Then after the new engine, the torque pretty much stayed the same, but the HP practically doubled. Why??? Because they were able to keep the torque from dropping at high RPMs, which makes a ton of HP. That HP difference took the V8 Mustang from doing a low 14sec 1/4mile to a low 12sec 1/4mile. You think the HP had something to do with it??? Absolutely. Do you know where the torque numbers really come into play??? When you have all wheel drive, lots of HP and Torque, and you need all the traction and power ready to go, in an instant, FROM A STOP. Yeah, from a stop. Yeah, that's when torque matters, as well as traction obviously. I recently saw a drag race between the Jeep Trackhawk vs The Tesla Y, and the Trackhawk actually took the torque heavy Tesla Y from a launch till about 40mph. The Trackhawk actually out torque'd the torque of an electric motor. WOW!!! Still don't get it? Don't worry, 90% of the population doesn't get it.

Even if you lose traction you should be able to keep the front end straight. I bet that with a more unphased driver the GT500 would have lagged a bit less. The Vette and Porsche are mid engine layout and rear engine configuration layout which gives them extra traction due to the tires being over the rear wheels. The Shelby GT500 is front engine rwd so it's going to struggle off the line compared to mid engine and rear engine configuration off the line. I think a dyno test on all three cars would have been the best way to go about it. We all know the Porsche, a german car, has much more than they are claiming. Could be as much as 450hp, in actuality." These races prove my point, the Porsche really does have 450hp, and that puts it where it is at compared to the Corvette. Sure it gets a better launch, but I never saw a full car length ahead of the Corvette, from either launch. It's all about the power to weight ratio, and the Corvette barely has it beat. The roll race backs that up, also. Porsche, really has 450hp, power to weight of 7.5lbs/hp, while the Corvette 7.4lbs/hp. Corvette just barely edging out the Porsche in actual power to weight ratio. Next up, go run a dyno test at the same elevation if you think I'm wrong. Sorry, 3:08, power to weight on the Porsche being 8.9lbs/hp is incorrect... and if you think the Germans know how to build a car 14:16... yeah, they just lie about how much power it actually has. There is no magic German Engineering, just more actual power, not magic power either. It's always been this way, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Porsche, etc... they all state the power at the motor, when it's what is actually being put to the ground, like there was no losses. YA RIGHT!!! I DONT THINK SO!!! Enjoy.

I am not German and not an American and i love Porsche and i own a Mustang Gt PP and i love it, every nation or country excels in something when it comes to building cars. for me Mustangs are way more fun than many faster cars but i still love Mustangs and would choose them anytime over many cars. Car community is being ruined by people like you, its a car passion not a politics. Just give credit where credit is due. • the corvette only has 450 hp till it pass the 500km mark, then the ECU automatically opens up the rest of the HP, bassically when you drive it the ECU limits the fuel and other aspects of the revs so that you only have 450hp only till after the engine does its 500kms? where as the other two cars are all hp straight up?

  • Well the GT500 could go a lot better. In this case I feel the driver matter so much since the car is FR so launching that is not easy honestly to keep up with those other two. Need over 20 times practice

  • As a 2016 Ford Mustang GT PP2 Automatic owner, I only need to say, put it in Track Mode, Keep the traction control on, but if you know what your doing, turn it off. You never, ever "feather" the throttle! Go all out and control the launch, and when it shifts, control the "Kick-Out" it creates. It is all about human control, not Launch Control in my experience. If you know what your Mustang can do, the more the advantage. The other thing is, Y'all didn't mention the "Tires" being used.... You can have any kind of power/torque and weight to power ratios all you want, but if you can't lay that power to weight ration to stick to the pavement with the tires, well, it is a huge factor...

  • Next time select the Carrera 4 or more competitive - Carrera 4s and from a dead start the vette would get left behind by with of these two variations. At least a Carrera S - two wheel drive would be more of a comparison - this model has an additional 50 hp - over the base Carrera.

  • I’m getting sick of watching car comparisons videos where they judge a cars performance with one driver too one car and don’t swap. You have three cars and three people, all three drivers should drive each car. Even professional drivers have different processes and approaches to how each driver drives a given vehicle. They can be good in one car and shit in another, then they swap and it’s a total opposite. This process eliminates variation in driver ability/inability and is a better way to judge the cars as an average. It blows my mind that after all this time and with TV shows like Top Gear (who did this and swap vehicles) that people still don’t do it.
