Why Do Western People Hate Themselves? - Douglas Murray

2024 ж. 28 Нау.
939 914 Рет қаралды

Douglas Murray is a journalist, author and associate editor of The Spectator.
The last few years has seen a dramatic rise of anti-Westernism. But surprisingly, the sentiment hasn't come from overseas, the strongest anti-Western sentiment has come from the West itself. Whether it's demands for reparations, calls for the abolishment of white people, tearing down of statues or the rewriting of history, something is going on.
Expect to learn why Dumbledore can't be gay in China, why BLM bought a 6 million dollar mansion, what Douglas thinks about Libs Of TikTok being doxxed, why anti-white racism sounds so disgusting when you change the wording, why there's more slaves alive now than at any time in history but no one cares, Douglas' personal philosophy around working hard and much more...

    • You have to look at it from this angle: why don't people believe that China is a problem - even with their bigotry and _isms? Western nations enveloped themselves in EVERYTHING when they colonized people around the world; they taught people to be like them, whilst China is mainly hands off and business orientated. People aren't crying about "integrating" with the Chinese, are they? No, they remain reserved and distant and allow others to do what they do with their OWN communities. Anglosaxon nations were extremely narcissistic projecting to others how they should think, personally. And this is the result. Don't be mad at the children, it's the parents fault.

    • If by "White supremacists" you mean White nationalists that want to rule over other races, thats utter nonsense!. Thats a myth. If defined as White people wanting to rule supreme over their own racial territory, free from any infleunce of racial strangers than theres Nothing immoral about that at all! The term "White supremacist" is nothing more than an AntiWhite slur used by those who do not want White people to oppose multiracialism which is ultimately genocide, its racial erasure. Anyone who advocates for multiracialism in any way shape or form should be put in prison to say the least. Liberals who are racially White are traitorous scum who are doing nothing but screaming at their own fellow White people as to why theyre not destroying themselves quick enough. Theyre siding with Antiwhite nonwhites who are active and have been since the end of WW2 in destroying the White European people. Theres Nothing "theoretical" about whats happening to White people north, south, east and west and it is a deliberate, malicious conspiracy by brainwashed Whites and AntiWhite nonwhites. The truth is coming out. No gatekeepers like Douglas Murray or anyone else can stop the truth from coming out and to who the blame lays.

    • Thank you. As someone who strongly opposes so many elements of persistent racism in the US like how awful the US court system is for minorities. I’ve always thought the goal was equality and to rid ourselves of all of this prejudice bullshit as best we can going forward. Sometimes it feels like the Left just wants revenge and that will lead to nothing but endless cycles of violence.

    • Left fascists have one thing right. They never fairly debate the issues. All they're interested in is if you support them, and if you don't, they physically attack and terrorize you, then do everything they can to ruin your life. If the majority of the public would brutally beat anyone who expressed anything resembling a woke view in public, the Left would suddenly realize the value of free speech. We'd get a handle on this Left fascist problem rather quickly thereafter.

      @mfit7110@mfit7110 Жыл бұрын
    • @@mfit7110 This is the incorrect medium to dissect whatever issue properly. I don't conceptualize racism or any discriminatory behavior by categories. So "black and white" racism is a definition I can't compute, since every kind of social discrimination stems from the same root. You are also ignoring completely the very definition of common sense. It implies deliberate simplicity and lack of sophistication in order to make sound judgment instead of overthinking issues. Emphasis on the 'common' part of it. It means focus on the shared simplicity about the truth of the most relevant aspects of harmonious coexistence, in a transverse fashion across the beforementioned aspects. As in, the kind of sense that if you apply it in whatever issue, you are the most likely to not incurr in grave error, regardless of particularities. In this issue, specifically, common sense says to evaluate every and any person based on the contents of their character only. Period. Simple enough for me. I have no desire to overcomplicate this further. It is working well for me, I am blessed enough to have the chance to grow and learn with people from wherever on Earth their are from, they frequently express gratitude for my way of being and this graces me with lifelong relationships of nurture, trust and camaraderie. so simple minded I shall remain.

Enslaved by the british for hundreds of years, and when they weren't enslaved their living conditions were much worse than slaves of early america. Slaves on plantations in the south could at least be certain that they would have food to eat and a place to sleep. Irish immigrants had no such luxury - and they were often beaten in the streets just for being irish. You don't see irish americans complaining about their poor lot in life, they did everything they could to make life a little better as the generations went on.

This person could not meet the requirements and standards for solo flying. No one at the school had the slightest idea he was gay, yet one day our manager received a call from Pride Pilots, an LGBT organization accusing our school of being homophobic because the person in question was not proceeding as they had planned, although they didn’t meet the standards which are laid out by the govt. All the students flying was well documented and my manager explained that to the Pride representative. To our chagrin, this representative decided to threaten my manager by stating, “ you know we can ruin your reputation”. Thankfully our organization had a good record of being an inclusive flight school, but the fact they used a threat gives weight to the notion that it’s all about power. No consideration to the multitudes of people that are dependent on the flight school for their livelihood. None! Just a show of power and no one has a chance to fight back. • @@1888zw intellect? No, what I think you’re describing is elitism. All I’ve heard my whole life is that you can’t truly be an intellectual unless you’re on the left. Then again, we have mostly all lived in a world where Repressive Tolerance (Marcuse) reigns supreme both academically and culturally. It’s a social cudgel to say that the right does not have intellect. It’s a way of saying “you’re not smart enough to agree with me (us), nor do you have the capacity to even understand why you aren’t smart enough to agree with me (us).” And who would want to be on the side that is, as you suggest, historically lacking intellect? So everyone agrees with the left and hopes to be part of the elite, otherwise they risk being called stupid and backward, or are indicted as a racist.

    • Lincoln was exactly the first thing I thought of when Churchill's statue was being discussed. Then I thought of the statue at the Lincoln memorial in the Capitol. If ever there was an iconic carven image in America, this is it. By that moment I was in complete lockstep with Murray, having breathed that name, carving and location just moments before he got to it. For this to be under threat? Is indeed, to be at war. There is something so intensely beloved about that image. I would give anything to walk up to it....alone. And have just five minutes to be illuminated, just as carven as this image of a great being who sits at rest before me. True, there are places - like the ceiling of the Sistine chapel, I suppose. But this one reposes in the heart of America. It is far more than just a simple celebration. It is also a reminder, a call, a warning, a great hope.

The pendulum has well and truly swung, in a remarkably short period of time, to the point that where (even in Australia) our social, educational and political institutions have launched full pelt beyond any notion of equality and straight into reverse discrimination. How ironic that I never experienced any obvious discrimination in the workplace as an openly gay man, but now I feel discrimination as a white man!

I remarked to the bellhop that I hope he makes a lot of money in tips as the hotel was full of guests. He told me that sadly most of the rooms were taken up by the family of the Saudi Prince (the owner at the time) and they don't tip. He then told me many of the rooms were occupied by the Philipino slaves of the Saudi Royal Family. I was shocked. He said they take their passports so they can't leave and they are treated poorly as modern-day slaves.

If he overturns their dishonest monopoly on the cultural and political narrative, they will lose a great deal of their power. As in, without the power to ban people, they will resort to their usual insults and hate speech which will not only reveal what kind of people they really are, but as more people are allowed to openly oppose them, it will give the people who are too scared to speak openly more courage to join in and add their voices. This is what the Left fears the most, the loss of the moderate supporters (who only support them because they fear being abused, called bigots or fascists etc).

    • "Churchill was half American" Only by blood. He was 100% Brit by upbringing, born and raised. Unfortunately for all his laudible achievements in WW2 he was a terrible peace time leader that probably handicapped our past war development vs the Americans even more than having to rebuild the bombed cities and infrastructure did (and that was no small thing considering the US suffered minimal domestic disruption from Nazi or Japanese bombing campaigns during the war compared to any European nation). That's not even getting into his less than stellar record prior to WW2 - even the fact that he called out Hitler's ambitions beforehand could easily be seen as one warmonger recognising another rearing his head.

  • When Chris started talking about choosing his regrets, I was strongly reminded of a novel that was far less obscure in the early '70s: "The Dice Man" by Luke Rienhart. In the book, a phsychiatrist theorises that his midlife crisis is the cumulative result of all the options he decideed against throughout his life so far. However obvious the "right" choice was, part of him is still disappointed/denied/frustrated when choosing different (if superior) path. Since his personality is the sum of the choices he has made, he decides to erase his current self in favour of a wild/true version. He does this by replacing his decision making process with a roll of one or more dice and a list of options (allowing the odds to favour more unremarkable behaviour for a more gentle slide into insanity). Fun book with pretty solid Psychological theory (at the time) at it's heart. The sequel appeared over 20 years later, telling the tale of the origional protaganist's son, searching for the father that vanished after the events of "The Dice Man". Cheers, Dan ;o)-

The map he described, SHOULD be up in all our schools in Britain, alongside all of Britains iconic personalities, inventors, artists, authors, and sporting heroes. These things, and people should be celebrated and remembered forever.

When the Bolsheviks saw how weak and beleaguered we were, they killed our leaders and stole our country. • I loved this. Absolutely loved it. I’ve heard Douglas Murray on some debates and thought he was fantastic, but this is the first long format interview I’ve heard of his. So compelling. Here is a man that is, in his own wonderful and unique way, carrying the torch for Hitchens. We are all better off for it. One theme that I see playing out in these modern times, if I’m permitted to drop my two cents into the conversation, is laziness. Nuance is neither practiced nor regarded as the virtue it should be anymore. I sum that up to laziness in a big way. People are one, too lazy to think with and practice nuance these days. Because it takes a much bigger effort than picking a side and letting that side and all its rules and standards do all the thinking for them. Secondly, people are too lazy to do the work of self evaluating their own beliefs. There are things I thought from my twenties and into my thirties that I have recently had a major shift on. It was painful at times and even embarrassing. But I believe I’m a better rounded person now because of that work. Did I give up my old views entirely? No. Because I used that first part - nuance - to see that there was a baby (or babies) in there not worth throwing out with the bath water. But that takes a daily commitment to doing the work. And I think the disdain for that work in the form of general laziness is at the nexus of the problems these two discuss. Time for all of us to start doing the work again.
