  • A belated Happy Victory day to the Russians, you deserve not to have your contribution to the second world war downplayed and forgotten. As I have said before, my grandad was very aware of what the Russians sacrificed and made sure I knew as well. I wish my government would stop this vendetta against the Russians because I do not understand where it comes from, and suspect that most of it comes from some politicians plans for world domination are being spoilt. Very unworthy of our governments to carry on in this fashion.

  • I don't get the feeling that NATO could beat Russia in Ukraine even if all available NATO troops join. Russia is on home turf, is far more experienced, would be fully motivated and has unlimited escalatory capability whereas NATO would have a hotchpotch of armies and weapons (and would run out of things very quickly) and no clear leadership. Obviously, we may never find out if that's true as we all may have to wave goodbye to the world, but I can't see any NATO army or collection of armies beating Russia in a land war on Russia's border. In other words to get the job you must throw your citizens under the bus _harder_ than the other applicants.

The opposition parties would smell blood if the LDP sent troops to fight in Ukraine. With that said, I saw an article a year or so back that mentioned 70 Japanese volunteers went to fight for Ukraine. On the other side, one of Patrick Lancaster’s videos showed a former-SDF member training Russia-allied soldiers in the Donbas.

    • @@SharSue -- As the war will presumably finish on Russian terms, why would they let anything happen in Ukraine thereafter to their disadvantage? The best thing the EU can do now is accept that their gamble didn't come off, stop provoking Russia, forget any fantasies of backing a future coup by exiled Ukrainians in London or New York or wherever and hope for some sort of deal with the RF America can walk away but Europe can't and the worse they make things now the worse their future will be, whoever eventually succeeds Putin could be a lot worse for Europe than he has been
